As we come up on the tenth anniversary of Homestuck starting, it comes time once again for me to run my highly scientific tournament. Will Roxy be able to defend her crown? Will someone new take the title this time? Will a non-Homestuck character make it to the Elect Eight? Your votes will help determine that once and for all!
So now then, with that out of the way, welcome to the seventh annual MSPA Madness tournament, wherein we end up crowning the "best" [citation needed] character from all of Andrew Hussie's works: From Homestuck to Jailbreak, from Hiveswap to And It Don't Stop, from Troll Call to The Roarosaurs. Now, there's probably thousands of characters from all those works, and trying to rank them all and then doing a single elimination tournament would probably take years, so this is where the qualifying voting comes in. Rank up to your top sixty-four characters, and the highest vote getters will enter into the tournament proper, resulting in the winner being crowned on the tenth anniversary itself, April 13th. "But," you might say, "I love this character from some obscure section that's never going to get any votes! How could they ever get into the tournament?" Well, much like how the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship has one team from every conference make it in, so too will this competition. There will be one person representing Homestuck in here, and (assuming someone votes for them) someone representing An Inappropriate Time for Ham. These will likely be revealed a day before because it's easier to calculate who wins these rather than who scored what among everyone. After that, it's just gonna be votes and votes until someone wins! Frequently Asked Question from before: Q: Do I have to fill up all 64 slots?A: No. Fill as many or as few as you want, just make sure to not skip any spaces. Q: Are these two characters the same person?A: Right off the top of my head, if it's akin to Mindfang and Aranea or Bro and Dirk, they are surely separate. If you still aren't sure, just put them both down anyways. As long as it's not intentional duplication (like a response I had before that answered literally every question with Eridan Ampora), I'll overlook it. Q: What should I put for this character's name?A: Since I'm recording the data manually, it doesn't really matter which. Though please try to keep it as simple as you can while still being unambiguous. As fun as "science wwizard" was, "Eridan" is a lot nicer; while "PM" works, "AR" is still potentially confusing. Q: All of Hussie's old works?A: Yep. If Andrew Hussie had a part in making something, any character from it is eligible to be included in this tournament. Q: Where can I find some of the old comics?A: Unfortunately, the website containing Hussie's old works was taken down. You can try Internet Archive. I tested a few comics from that link; most work, but some are unfortunately broken. Still, it's better than nothing. So what are you waiting for? MSPA Madness is back!

To answer the very important question, Oliver Garden is this troll from the MSPA Snapchats. Someone voted for him so congrats on making it in, but did he win? spoiler alert noVotes have been counted and we had six of them that would have been flipped had a single person voted differently. But enough of regaling the general statistics, time to get down to the nitty gritty. Welp, I wouldn't be surprised if over half the characters I voted for lose, but we'll see. Well, I'm plesently suprised to learn only about a fifth of who I voted for got knocked out. I did lose one of my favorites in a landslide though, but I'm aware most the fandom doesn't share my oppinions on Aranea, so I was kind of expecting that; I'm just happy that Vriska lost too!

Sorry for this being somewhat late, I was busy doing totally serious things and not spending hours stuck on a puzzle in Baba is You. Completely unrelated, if anyone has a hint for Flower 8-Jaywalkers United, I'd love to hear it (but not a solution; I still want to figure that out on my own...) ANYWAY here are the votes! FOX DIVISION Dad Egbert upsets Caliborn with 61.54% of the vote Spades Slick defeats MSPA Reader with 66.67% of the vote Jade Harley defeats Sollux Captor with 72.50% of the vote Problem Sleuth defeats Davesprite with 52.50% of the vote

Also, I find it amusing that Dirk is facing off against his Auto-Responder.

And sixteen get pared down to eight, which will be the start of the placement voting (aka we'll see who ends up in eighth and such). But to get there, they first had to win these matches. And those winners are... FOX DIVISION Between Spades Slick and Dad Egbert, the winner is... Spades Slick with 65.85% of the vote Between Jade Harley and Problem Sleuth, the winner is... Jade Harley with 62.86% of the vote POWELL DIVISION Between Dirk Strider and his Autoresponder, the winner is... Dirk Strider with 62.86% of the vote Between Dave Strider and Karkat Vantas, the winner is... Dave Strider with 54.76% of the vote SCHEELE DIVISION Between Roxy Lalonde and Davepetasprite, the winner is... Roxy Lalonde with 73.17% of the vote Between John Egbert and Kanaya Maryam, the winner is... John Egbert with 55.26% of the vote IAMURRI DIVISION Between Rose Lalonde and Aradia Megido, the winner is... Rose Lalonde with 64.86% of the vote Between Terezi Pyrope and Wayward Vagabond, the winner is... Terezi Pyrope with 58.97% of the vote Well, three rounds of voting remain! Vote in the Elect Eight right now!

It's not unreasonable I suppose, but a touch disappointing it seems to always pare down to the same usual suspects. Spades Slick is the biggest stranger to make it this far, and it's almost certain he won't survive the next round. Ah well.

Aside from Hiveswap, which is ultimately just a side story, nothing has really changed in MSPA, so of course people's favorite characters are going to be the same.

Welp, with Rose gone, there goes any chance of having one of my favorites win.
Also, I find it interesting that at this point no character got more than 2/3 of the vote.
...And now I have to choose between Roxy and Terezi. I like them both about the same, but I think I'll vote Terezi so we can get a new winner.

Well, after waiting for two hours (you'll see why), I have to cut my losses and just go on ahead with declaring the results. Between Dave Strider and Jade Harley, the winner is...
With 50.98% of the vote... DAVE STRIDER
Between Roxy Lalonde and Terezi Pyrope, the winner is...With... uh... 50% of the vote... yeah it was tied. Those two hours were spent waiting for an additional vote, and begging on one of the Discord servers I'm in for someone who hadn't voted to hit me up, yet nobody took it up. 2016's final took forever because Dave and Roxy tied for first, and that seemed anticlimactic. Unfortunately, I can't declare these two tied because there's still another round afterwards, so someone has to advance. My tiebreak decision was whoever did not receive the last vote, because they were ahead the latest. Criticise me all you want for this; I wanted to get this out today. With 50.91% of the vote excluding the last ballot...
TEREZI PYROPE So after that wonderful judgement, let me have a word with you first before you just jump in and VOTE in the finals. I mean, it's the finals; there's some special deals. After choosing between our finalists, there's an additional question at the end. If you just want to choose between our two finalists, go on ahead and choose submit at the end. The other three options link forward, so if you want to do multiple pick the earliest one: - Demographics: This is the same questions as in the first round; if you filled them out then or don't want to fill them out, feel free to skip them. Finishing this page sends you to...
- Contest Feedback: What did you like about this contest? What did you dislike? These and more about the running of the contest itself are in this section. Like for instance, suggestions on what to do if there's a tie outside of the final round. Finishing this page sends you to...
- Additional Voting: Who wins third? Or fifth? Or any of the pithy awards that mean nothing (like winning this contest means anything either)? Fun times in here, and finishing this finishes the voting for the year.
So you know what time it is?

And so the battle of the characters whose arcs took a nosedive at the end begins. Personally, I'm voting Terezi.
Also, I submitted before thinking of this, but a good way to do a tiebreaker might be to add up all their votes from previous rounds.

We're here at the end, and as I start to write this, I haven't looked at any of the votes as is tradition. I will be going in blind just like you are. And of course, that means we're gonna start with all the fun stuff that isn't the actual placement! MOST SURPRISING UPSET:Clubs Deuce beating Vriska Serket. Honestly, can't say that's too surprising. And by one vote to boot. I have to give credit where it's due to the person who submitted "I'm always upset". Whoever you are, know that that's the best answer ever. HARDEST MATCH TO CHOOSE BETWEEN:In an utterly apt result for this category, Roxy/Terezi, Dave/Karkat, and Roxy/Jade all got a single vote each. BIGGEST UNDERPERFORMANCE:Doc Scratch wins it here, being the only person to have gotten a vote. Honestly, my thought would have been Caliborn being #1 overall and losing in the second round, but I don't vote so there. BIGGEST OVERPERFORMANCE:Davepetasprite, again with a single vote. I guess given that two characters below a 4 seed made the Saccharine Sixteen, it was probably going to be one of them to win. BEST CHARACTER LEFT OUT:Ah yes, my second favorite part of this: Listing the characters who got any vote and showing exactly how they placed initially. - Damara Megido - 63rd overall, though right behind Porrim and Mituna who made it in
- Jake English - As I said in the bracket post, he was second out, 58th overall
- Necromancy Lizard - This is Casey. Who made it in as a 14 seed
- Kankri Vantas - He made it in as a 10 seed
- Caliborn - ... HE WAS #1 OVERALL
And our lowest ranking character to get a vote here was... Nepeta Leijon, who finished 118 th and well out of making it in. CHARACTER MOST SCREWED OVER BY BRACKET:Feferi Peixes wins... with all one vote here. Apparently, Davesprite is just that hard of a matchup. If best characters was second favorite, my absolute favorite part is the COMPLETELY ARBITRARY CONSOLATION AWARDSMost familiar with opponents goes to Dave Strider, who had to beat Lil' Cal, Karkat, Dirk, and Jade to get to the finals where he's facing Terezi. Ultimate Self goes to Jack Noir and Spades Slick combined, for beating Dad Egbert and Mom Lalonde, before losing to Jade and Dave respectively. Most Shipworthy Matchup goes to John vs Roxy. I feel like this is a relatively self-descriptive title. Best Defeat over your SORT OF brother: Dave over Dirk. Again, seemingly obvious why this is here. Most Nerd apparently went to me, which seems fair Great because someone did vote for me in the qualifying.
Okay, without further ado, here is the final rankings of MSPA Madness 2019!!! 8) Dirk Strider - 16.00%7) Spades Slick - 20.00%6) John Egbert - 28.00%5) Rose Lalonde - 36.00%4) Jade Harley - 38.46%3) Roxy Lalonde - 61.54%And your winner of the 2019 MSPA Madness is... 2) Dave Strider - 47.92% 1) Terezi Pyrope - 52.08%

After discovering the #byeSteevin tag on tumblr twitter, this somehow feels appropriate. Plus, I believe that's a new winner, not a repeat from a previous remember (though I could be wrong about that, I don't remember precisely). So, nice!

I feel a bit awkward being the only one to vote for Biggest Underperformance, Biggest Overperformance, and Character Most Screwed Over by Bracket. Honestly, I had a hard time deciding what to put for these as no characters really stood out for them, but I felt obligated to put something.
