One thing that's always bothered me about homestuck, Sburb in particular, are the sprites (And no, I do not mean that one time Spades Slick became self aware and flipped his character sprite).
They are extremely confusing, especially when they added in Sprite^2's right at the end there.
So that's why this thread exists now, for anyone else who either is as confused as me, or for people who are knowledgeable or have good headcannons.
One question I have is if a 2xPrototyped sprite and a 1xPrototyped sprite can come together to make a Sprite^2, or if even a 1xPrototyped sprite and another 1xPrototyped sprite can do such a feat.

The answer to the your question is yes. When Jake tells Jasprosesprite^2 she should kiss Nepeta, on the grounds that they would touch for too long.

Sprites are basically pastiches of ghosts, generated by Sburb. They exist to bring an entity close in some way to the player to life, be it a departed loved one, and/or something like a doll, resembling a living thing with some motif behind it. Or something.
Anything that is prototyped is given knowledge they need to pass on to the player. From what we've heard from Jasper and Davesprite, it sounds like they get riddles in their head. It's suggested Jasper just spouts it verbatim, but Dave was aware enough to pretty much have the raw information at his disposal, and dispense it as he desired. This is their primary purpose, to guide and assist the players throughout their journey (especially early on).
I'm guessing sprites are supposed to be fully prototyped as soon as possible, they aren't meant to be 1x for long. There have been instances of limited contact without consequence, like John high-fiving the harlequinsprite pre-entry. One headcanon I have is that with time the trolls could have trained themselves not to prototype the first thing they touched if they'd had time to adjust to their new bodies, but they were caught off guard.

Question: Do you think Caliborn's black hoke sprite was the result of two unprototyped sprites coming into contact, or is that just what happens for solo sessions? What do you think would happen if two unprototyped sprites met in a regular session?

What do you think would happen if two unprototyped sprites met in a regular session? it was a part of the entry process for the dead session because why the hell would it be two sprites for one player, also hussie in-comic said that there was only one sprite for the second question, we may never know. that, or it will become... My God. IT WILL BECOME... A Spritesprite.

Could it be two sprites? Two popping out of the same cruxtruder, like Callioborn sharing a body. Two souls one body, two sprites one cruxtruder?

That's a pretty popular theory I think. Of course all solo sessions must play out in this way, with the black hole absorbing the planet into the session. Whether a black hole is always created when two unprototyped sprites try to prototype each other, or it's just something solo sessions manufacture uniquely, is the debate.
