Alright, I... I was supposed to sleep. I didn't. I just couldn't sleep after this. I watched it 12 times.  My poor wife. *hugs* HUGS YOU BACK I tried to sleep for 15 minutes but I already don't sleep in general, so... At some point I was reminded it was on YouTube, and... and... everything happened so fast, 5 hours passed and I was still thinking about the upd8 even after I dropped the phone battery lol. This is bad I'm bad But really, Dave broke Dirk's sword, and time traveled. Karkat won over an unbeatable tiny dude. Jake did something awesome before the Masterpiece. Dirk died, hopefully not permanently. Jane most likely didn't die either. Roxy, Dave and PM were by far the biggest badasses. SlickPaint is sunk and I'm sad. Undertale reference. Good art and GOOD music. I lost it at ShrekxEridan. And Nanna dropping fornitures over John and Roxy. And. I don't know, so many things happened. I'm still a little floored. |

i actually wish that ut refrance was made less blatant, so people who didn't play the game won't go full "what the fuck is this"
simply removing game's GUI but leaving everything else would've worked better imho - stil recognisable undertale-ish but not as much out of palce
also bec noir had two hands at the beginning. i mean, come on

Certainly doesn't feel like things have wrapped up yet. The flash/video was nice though and exciting. I guess we'll have to wait and see where all of this is heading though.

Ok, that really is the big climatic battle we have been waiting for.
The animation is great, the music reaches new heights of epicness, some details really make you burst out laughing (a special mention to the face of LE when Karkat is attacking him, and he's like "dude, are you serious?!?") and all is basically completely awesome.
Also, predicatably, it didn't actually advance the plot much, apart from removing several high-caliber villains which however aren't really that relevant to the main story at this point.
The part with the Sburb logo and the four Beta kids each corresponding to a square really seems to point to the House Juju where supposedly Caliborn trapped them during his Masterpiece... but the Juju hasn't been deployed yet, we'll still have to wait to see its real meaning. Also, we still don't know what Alt!Calliope is up to. And WTF was AH doing fighting Vriska?!? Also, AH in scribble form. WTF again?!? Also, the fireflies. They have to be there for a reason.
The ending is ominous. Yes, this was the big climatic battle we have been waiting for. And yes, this is most definitely not the ending of Homestuck, yet. Some serious plot twist is incoming.

I thought I would have to wait all day for this, but no, I got up and looked and it was there. I found out when I saw I had an email from Bandcamp notifying me of a new album, I knew the update had to be out then.
The music was so great, and there was so much going on that was so hard to keep track of, but that just made it more exciting. I don't think that's the last flash we'll be seeing, though. And I don't think that's the last music album either. Hopefully Volume 10 will be out soon, maybe in a week's time...

Awesome update is awesome. I loved every second of it.
It was 90% fanservice, but I don't mind that because it's almost guaranteed this is just the first flash of the ending. There will be at least another one, and LE is not down yet. I was actually worrried they might deal with LE in this flash using predictable means and then it would have been anti-climatic. But all those minor villains? It was about time they got defeated. But yeah, it was the anti-Homestuck flash. It was all about fighting, which Hussie is reported to despise, and almost no plot.
But holy crap, how much fanservice. It had EVERYTHING. Fraymotiffs (I lol'd at Kanaya reading books and using lipstick when it wasn't her turn lol), Dad being a boss, Karkat being funny and defeating his natural enemy (it doesn't take a lot of luck to defeat karkat, so Clover was outmatched here), Jake going against expectations and wiping the floor with the Felt, UNDERTALE REFERENCE, people making LE look like a fool (I was almost worried they'd downplay him too much but every now and then he vaporized hundreds of ghosts so it was clear they were jkust annoying him), tons and tons of fighting scenes, a GODLIKE soundtrack, Jacks getting what they deserve (I feel bad for Jade looking like a fool though, she deserved better), Roxy employing her block creation powers in a really cool way (I had a headcanon she'd do that, but that surpassed my expectations)...
Like... I've watched it twice but I'll probably watch 20 times until the end of April, seriously.
Dirk seems to be the main mystery here. Can he be brought back? Can Jane revive him? How did they revive him the first time? That Dave/Terezi fraymotiff seems OP as fuck. Maybe they took him back to the past and then to jane so she could revive him, and that would rule out a second revival.
10/10. One of the best flashes in the comic. Doesn't top Cascade due to the plot Cascade had, but it tops everything else, easily.

I keep replaying it just because the soundtrack is so good. Although I am honestly surprised that we saw Altiope in the flash but nothing happened, at this point I'm getting more and more certain that there are several flash updates between now and the end covering huge events.
But giant textlogs would also be preeetttyy great, I do love a nice info dump

This flash was that boss rush you face in the final (sometimes penultimate) dungeon. With great remixed soundtrack, tons of powers being used since you're facing every type of villain, and some cutscenes with the main villain as you climb his lair. But now we are at the save point and the final boss is about to begin. After the Squiddle refrance in Descend, this is nothing really. |

For some reason, I'm oddly satisfied John's square was the one with the little extra square in it. I guess I like the idea of him being the odd one out, given his themes and powers.
Anybody want to make a list of the loose ends that haven't been dealt with? There are still quite a few, even if everything in that flash sticks.

That was astonishing! Really something to start the day with.
So what out of this did we not expect?
-Union Jack's head explolding into a black hole was thoroughly unexpected.
-Dirk getting his head chopped off, as well as his unbreakable katana being broken (that in particular makes me think back to the idea of B1 Bro basically training Dave for the endgame fights). AT least there's a backup katana around.
-PM punching out Jade.
-Jake beating the felt without any hope shenanigans.
-DAD!
-Fraymotifs!
-AH vs Vriska came out of nowhere, and is a little ominous after those calmasis theories I was reading up on yesterday.
The Undertale reference was awesome as well! Just the kind of realitywarpish thing you expect out of a sprite^2.
Other than that there's not much that already did happen that we didn't expect. The heroes winning this time around was pretty much in line with what has been building up to, all the villains being defeated somehow, except LE.
We still have to see Vriska use the plot hole and we also still have to see alt!Calliope do whatever she's planning on doing with the green sun.
And then there's the question of what the heck was going on with that end there... LE is still not defeated, so there's still that to do.
I can't wait to see what the next 40 pages has in store for us.

Or some big ol' text dumps. Clearly there are a lot of plot threads left to wrap up, but I have faith in Hussie's abilities to tell a good story. |

That is if this isn't a doomed time line or that wasn't. But even without the masterpiece, we don't know if Jane's dead and Dirk still has a free revive. We'll see how that goes. |

I feel like pointing out that the last shot, the black spheres over the white background, is a nice bookending callback to the first flash of Act 6 (where the moon and earth eclipse the sun, if I recall correctly). Very fitting.

As amazing as it would have been for Jane to be the one to kill HIC, I feel like it was even more fitting to have Roxy be the one to do it--and with (a version of) Dirk's sword. After all, they suffered their whole lives because of her, and not simply because she murdered their dancestors. Roxy had such a beef with HIC pre-entry at the beginning of Act 6--must have been awesome for her to finally stick it to the man woman troll.

I just realized....there was no references to SBaHJ anywhere in this update. i can provide some for ya bc i wanted to write full reaction and impression post while rewatching the "flash" (which isn't actually a flash), but you know, fuck this, because FUCK DAVE NO YOU DUMB HOMO TOOL YOUR TIME TREVELING WRONG
now have fun discussing this meh-ish updope while i commemorate slick's completely stupid and unnecessary death by redesigning my tumblr and listening to Noirscape for ten hours straight If it's any comfort, nekro, I wasn't happy with slick's death either. It.'s 1:40 am and I just watched it, so for now I will be brief;
holy shit, that art, that Undertale, that Dave, that everything. I am satisfied. The only drawback was youtube's insistence on a two minute buffer meant I had to download the video file after it became apparent my connection couldn't handle the speed necessary for high quality.
