I think this is the unfortunate reality of the internet: If you let everyone post anything you are going to have absolute shit but the moment you start enforcing your rules everyone shies away and you are left with nobody.

Ideally, I think the best solution is to find a way to filter out idiots before they can post i.e. make the forum's registration process have are-you-an-idiot test alongside the are-you-a-human test. I just don't know what such a test would entail with respect to the swear words issue. But a grammar/spelling test would be great.

It doesn't have to be much, just a to/too/two test or something. It serve more as a deterrent: Would be trolls would see the test and realise that that the forum isn't willing to put up with much bullshit.

Very few forum issues are caused by poor spelling or articulation, largely they are the result of belligerence. Your test would achieve very little except for being kind of unpleasant.
...also on topic, the future release of Hiveswap would you'd hope perhaps point at some kind of deadline. Maybe?

I am also crossing my fingers of the forums being put back up in the run up to the Hiveswap Act 1 release.

I'm hoping for something to be said, honestly. Has anything been said since that person from WP popped in and basically went "we're doing stuff but I'm A. new B. not allowed to say much and C. not privy to a lot of goings on too"?
From what I can see at least Andrew himself is still playing dead. Not like he was very active on social media to begin with, but still. Before he had at least some contact with the fans through the announcements on the mspaintadventures website regularly even during the mega/gigapause. This is about the longest batch of silence we've had, or close to it.
Now, it isn't up to me to tell him what to do and I wouldn't dream of trying, but I find it hard to believe that Andrew didn't hear of the situation or didn't care if he did hear of it. Maybe this is because he wants to go back to the smaller audience he had before Homestuck exploded? Well, whatever it is, I'm looking forwards more to some explanation of what the hell WP has been thinking for the past... almost half year now than I am to the actual game. Which is maybe on me, but it's also at least partially due to WP pissing in their own drink by not making sure that their audience stays invested in their product.
I really hope that Hiveswap Act 1 has your trademark great humor right from the get-go, Andrew, since I'm really gonna need it to get unsoured. Which is such a shame since I really want to be more excited than I am.

Wait, did the Odd Gentlemen actually steal from Hiveswap developers?!

Wait, did the Odd Gentlemen actually steal from Hiveswap developers?! Allegedly. From what I remember, the general gist is that Hussie/WP initially tasked T.O.G. with making the game and gave them the kickstarter money to do so. However after a fairly long period of time, they seemingly hadn't done anything except a really bare bones demo, so Hussie pulled back whatever money was left and WP set up their own in house studio to make it instead. Since T.O.G. released some other game(King's Quest?) during that time, many suspected that some of the Hiveswap funds were diverted into that product instead, but I don't think there was any hard proof.

It's one of those situations where if the allegations were false they'd just come out and say it, but if they're true certain legal BS prevents them from just outing them without some kind of repercussion, so it's better to just cut your losses and move on.

Yeah, but also the Hiveswap FPS is abysmal. I hope they fix it. I know it reminds me of old video games but I really don't feel like playing on 1 FPS.
Also, a joke I saw in the comments of Hiveswap:
"TOG stole the other 20 frames" hahahaha

I mean, have you seen WP's track record when it comes to communicating with people?

By that same token, before that happened they were practically an open book in comparison, so methinks that might have been the triggering event that caused the radio silence we're experiencing.

Phillip's most recent post on the matter is actually still for the most part what is still going on: So actually, the mods and I have been finished with the actual site design for a good while now. To clarify, we're using established forum software rather than engineering a CMS from scratch because of time and security. The next step is getting site and server security really stable, which will take time and mostly won't be in our control. Right now, we can only continue once we receive information from a third party who has unfortunately been taking quite a while to get back to us. In the meantime we're responsibly holding sweet rave parties at What Pumpkin HQ. From what I can see at least Andrew himself is still playing dead. here's a full paste of ipgd's original postit's worth noting that ipgd is close enough to andrew to take pictures of him and to work on the end of homestuck, and they haven't lied in the past (e.g. about content of final homestuck updates). so, while not necessarily ethical, they are at least truthful, and it is very likely that some kind of settlement was reached because no one in either company has refuted these claims and it's not like the odd gentlemen hasn't let down creators beforeodd gentlemen scandal was the beginning of No News and probably directly led to what pumpkin being so careful with what employees like philip are allowed to say.

Also, a joke I saw in the comments of Hiveswap: "TOG stole the other 20 frames" hahahaha The actual Hiveswap framerate looks fine to me. Character movement and continuous background animation (tweening etc) seems very smooth. I think it's just a matter of some of the character animations having stylistically low framerates. The game isn't running slow, it's just that there are no intermediate frames in some of the character animations, so nothing's actually "broken" to be fixed. I think it looks fine, feels kinda in line with the Homestuck style to me.

Yes, 'We're doing stuff' basically. It's nice to get updates on the progress on the new forums and all, but no questions regarding what happened to the old forums, what WP has been doing before just recently reaching out or anything have been answered because Phillip can't answer them. Again, I appreciate that Phillip wants us to be in the loop more as much as we do but it's not him that I'm upset at, it's whoever at WP made the decisions that made an unfortunate event that would have been a bummer at worst into something much bigger than it had to be. Andrew made a new news post 3 days ago. Ah, I didn't see that when I checked when I made my previous post. Nor can I see it now, for that matter, probably the cache issues Holly mentioned. Either way, that news post wasn't very informative either, much the same 'I'm working on things!' stuff we've been reading for lord knows how long now. And all the while ignoring anything else that's been going on while even wondering out loud what else he has to report. Then again, a news post about supposedly cool shit he's been working on and we're going to hear more about in a couple of weeks doesn't really suit addressing a more serious topic like that, but that doesn't change that he's still not addressing it anywhere else either. Can we please just get an apology? Or an explanation about how it's all a big misunderstanding? Or a lecture on how we're all idiots for interpreting the situation all wrong? I'll take anything, I just want some closure so I can get back to enjoying Andrew's work without having to worry about these lingering doubts about him and WP's management. On a side note, I don't care about the whole 'TOG stole money' thing. It's a rumor with no proof at best and baseless shitflinging at worst, and I don't really care about all the kickstarter money showing when we see the final product, just that it'll be a fun experience. Andrew can go wipe his ass or roll a blunt with the money I donated or make some hilariously shitty statue out of the bills or something, he really deserves it for all the great entertainment he's brought us all for free in the past, and I donated to the Kickstarter with exactly that thought in mind. Well, maybe not exactly like that. I'm fairly sure that ass wiping was a part of it in some sense though.
