It's not dead, What Pumpkin just apparently don't want any of their users back when they are finished and aren't interested in telling them anything. Will they even post when it is done or will someone just find it one day by accident after clicking an old bookmark?

I think it's ridiculous that they can't just say 'Down Indefinitely' Then be prepared to go back on it.

Well we got an official WP employee to come to us and say that he's working on the new forums. And while it's been a few months since he last came here, I'd say they're waiting for Hiveswap to launch before doing anything with the forums.

What I want to know is if the new forums will still have the Kamina to Leslie Nielsen word filter. I hope so.

I say let's just face it. MSPA forums is deader than disco and nu metal from the 90's. This is as close as we'll get to MSPA forums without the name

I get the feeling that they're just holding off on the forums until Hiveswap's release next month.

I get the feeling that they're just holding off on the forums until Hiveswap's release next month. If they were going to do that, I think they would've done it by now. Doing it on the day would be silly as rolling out the untested software right in a major activity spike is needlessly risky, plus trying to switch people over during that spike in activity is just going to fragment the discussions and people will end up having to search two forums to find the thing they want and it'd just be jarring to the users. They would need a run up time to let people settle into the new forums and get used to it before the rush happens, and I think less than a month is pushing it a bit too close.

If it happened before Hiveswap, all we would need is a week or two to get the word out, honestly. The admins here could lock'er down and I know I'd be advertising the hell out of it on discord and elsewhere. The biggest perk to opening it before Hiveswap, AKA our version of Eternal September in my opinion, would be to get all of the nice threads created beforehand; introductions, discussion, photos, all of the little threads we find necessary and fun. Your points are valid, though... Floodgates opening all at once would be a bit of a mess. We'll have to see where things go. Aquilus3 and ye others of little faith, just you wait'n see.

From philip's last input, I wouldn't be shocked to hear there's some third party input on the server hosting end that they've been waiting on for a while.

I could see them waiting for the recovery project, but I figured philip's job was (among other things) to handle that sort of communication if indeed there is a third party. I don't think there is a third party, honestly; there's no reason they couldn't just use stock forum software, a lot of them are quite nice and easy to configure. If they have a custom option or something from a third party, I sure as heck hope they aren't waiting too long.
And I have beaten this drum a hundred times, but I'll do so again: I hope they don't let money get in the way of good forums. We can and will pay for its maintenance, management, etc.

The forum software itself is ready to go (and has been since one of my earliest messages here). We just need the OK signal from WP when they get the server up and we can probably port it over in a day. Getting the server ready involves a third party, but I'd wager that WP itself is 110% concentrated on Hiveswap release right now. I'll let you guys know as soon as I hear back.

I appreciate your honestly Phillip but I have to say... I really don't think people are going to be much enthused to hear that the forum has apparently been ready to go since June but What Pumpkin just didn't want to press the on button yet.

Yeah uh...that doesn't reassure me any. It just makes me feel worse, because we technically could've had the forums this whole time if someone was just willing to do it? Thanks??

Well I'm glad to hear about this because it means there's very little besides good timing standing in the way of us and the new forums. It'd be one thing if we didn't have this place, but I will frankly miss it now that I am thinking of the absolute truth that is upcoming MSPAF.

The thing is, they have no reasonable budget and a tight schedule in order to make a forum happen before release. I expect no earlier than a week after full release. My money's on about a month.

Well, no shit, NOBODY is especially enthused that it's taken so long, but there's not much any of us can do about it until Huss gives the go-ahead. I don't see why are people being bitter towards the messenger for communicating when people were just complaining about a lack of communication.

Nobody is bitter towards the messenger, they're bitter towards the message itself, and are informing him as such in the hopes that perhaps he might relay those feelings back to sender and get them to hurry things along or change their minds about their schedules.

Yeah that wasn't a criticism of phillip, but of the people who are actually responsible for that decision. I'm just commenting that it was brave of him to say so (especially as it's been so long but yet this is still somehow news, and that we are still just left with this one not particularly officially supported messenger)
