The fact that we're only finding this out through unofficial avenues is unacceptable to me.

The post that blackhole made makes me sad because I was looking through the tags with tagviewer and I saw someone saying that their fan adventures were on there and they weren't backed up Like, for me even besides history or whatever that's completely the worst case scenario. I knew it would be true for some of the people making them, but actually knowing for sure it happened to someone is just sad. I hope All Night Laundry is OK, I was in the middle of reading it when the forums went down

You people seem to have forgotten something... and it's very-likely the cause of the MSPFA forums shutdown. First, let me preface by saying that i really doubt the rumours of a hacking being the cause of this. I mean, remember when the "Free Syryan Army" (spelled wrong on purpoise to avoid them googling this) hacked the site? ...it was back in less than a day like nothing happened. No, this is obviously a forum overhaul and they either thought it would have taken less, or Hussie just wanted to keep it a "surprise" ...probly a combo of the 2 >.> Why do i think this? Well... remember the game's kickstarter? One of the promises was that anyone who pledged 10$ or more for a copy of the game would get to beta-test it and supposedly post bug tickets through a hidden forum. Initially, we got an e-mail for the password-protected HS Game-Backers Tumblr (the password was Skaia) ...now that tumblr page is down :/ Luckyly some brave soul was already hard at work posting the non-sneakified updates from that blog ^^ Now obviously you can;t use Tumblr to track bugs... even using a forum-platform is a stretch (the tech-support firm i work for uses DeskPro, and OSticket is a nice free alternative) But over-reaching hasn't stopped Hussie and crew before ^^ (like how they spent 1 year running a 3D art studio and now they're not even gonna use a lot of the designs <.<) So in conclusion, i think the extended MSPFA downtime is them trying to implement a gated-off portion to the forums for bug-tracking purposes.

Nice theory... but if this is the unintended result of intentional meddling with the forums, then it's (again) a complete display of unprofessionalism.
There's something as test servers, you know; making changes directly on production systems is the best way to risk a disaster, and definitely not a thing even a beginner in web development would do, unless he wanted his career to be very short.

You'd be surprised by how often things break when importing from test-servers ...but yea, it's been more than a week now >.> Anyway that was just my 2 cents on the whole thing :\

I think it's probably for the best not to use the word "professionalism" too much, if only for historical reasons. It is easy to forget, though, that despite Homestuck's popularity and scope, the whole thing is still a small-time operation struggling with big-time responsibilities.

So in conclusion, i think the extended MSPFA downtime is them trying to implement a gated-off portion to the forums for bug-tracking purposes. Oh, yeah, I remember that hack! The music was super annoying. XD Hrmm, it could possibly be an overhaul, plus some better security? The timing of it all is rather suspect, for that. If it's a really major overhaul, it may include a rename from MSPA to "What Pumpkin," which could be why we've gotten comments that the MSPAForum specifically is dead. But if there's more to it than that, hrm... I don't know. I really wish we'd just get some talk about what's really going on, but if it IS a rename/overhaul, there might be some legal issues involved in it that we aren't aware of. That's always a pesky problem. EDIT: I think it's probably for the best not to use the word "professionalism" too much, if only for historical reasons. It is easy to forget, though, that despite Homestuck's popularity and scope, the whole thing is still a small-time operation struggling with big-time responsibilities. This is why I'm not too concerned about the lack of communication. It's frustrating, yes, but small time companies often have to prioritize, and often communication falls by the wayside.

This is the End of Homestuck and nobody knows why we don't have a place to discuss it. It's pretty silly. I've seen cases where a webcomic forum would go down for weeks and the author would personally create a temporary replacement like this one and post about it in the site. Hussie doesn't give a shit.

They sell merchandise and want to publish games (for which they already got TWO AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS in advance).
That's a completely different scope than "I'm drawing some webcomics".

Exactly. What I am saying is, it isn't exactly surprising that a company with Whatpumpkin's history would have trouble keeping up. None of this was really planned--that's part of what has made it so unique and exciting, but it's not surprising that when it comes to brass tacks, issues like whatever has gone wrong with the forum, they don't always handle it well. I doubt there's any malice involved, I just think that they are probably in well over their heads. (Also, I'm not saying they don't have professional responsibilities; I was just making a joke about another incident).

I doubt there's any malice involved, I just think that they are probably in well over their heads. In my experiences with ordering things from What Pumpkin, when things got delayed and nobody could be reached, it was usually just because they were simply *That Busy.* I've never held it against them because I've had these same experiences with another smallish game company, arguably one of the best at communication with its fans that I've ever known. People always get mad at the lack of communication, but there are often reasons for it, even if the company cannot say what it is.

I agree with scarodactyl. We should hold WP responsible for their negligence, but we have to keep in mind that this is a smaller, independent company. I would blame Valve even more if something like Steam was down for this long without a word because they have much more money and a lot more experience.

Is ipgd even actually part of What Pumpkin in a paying role? No, I think she's just friends with Hussie, which might be why she's been so rude about it. She might just be annoyed that people think they can just ask her this shit.

Hey, so I have a request. Would you be willing to help me document this on Homestuck's Fanlore page? This is the kind of thing that needs to be documented, IMO. In other news, according to another one of my friendgroups re: the inside job speculation: That is all.

Yeah, being the one with insider info on a situation can be all kinds of not fun, especially when being pestered about it constantly by a lot of people. You say what you can to try to extricate yourself from that situation, even if it's not what everyone wants to hear.

Man, I really wish IPGD wasn't so rude about it. She could simply state: "I'm not the person to ask about this situation." or "I'm sorry, I don't have any more info on that." But I think everyone is annoyed about the situation.
