I don't think anyone has displayed a poor attitude up until the point where people started trying to start a fight about Soft Owl, who again, was not even the webmaster and is not currently in any position that leaves her in charge of communication, nor has any web presence to place that communication on, so cannot be linked at all to the current grievance.
Being annoyed that nobody has even bothered to put "oh and the forum is broken, we're working on it" on twitter, or on the mspa site, or anywhere is completely reasonable, and until people decided this was the Soft Owl deprecation hour, nobody was asking for more than that.
It would be best to continue not to ask for more than that, at risk of making complaints that we're being big jerks into actually truthful ones.

I'd just like to second every word jacquerel said. I was about to post something but you said exactly what was on my mind. (By the way, were you on MSPAF a while ago? I seem to remember the name as an old one...)

The thing is soft owl has nothing to do with this current situation. As in soft owl has pretty much dropped off the face of the internet and as such there's likely no reason to bring her up because the topic is about the fate of the mspa forums. Soft owl has no relation to the mspa forums or what's going to happen to it. We have no idea if soft owl even works the PR of what pumpkin anymore so it's not really a good idea to keep pointing fingers at someone who seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the current issue at hand.
Basically it just seems to be a lot of ranting about soft owl and like I said, I have very little understanding of what went down but it's pretty clear soft owl won't be in the future of the mspa forums and has dropped off it awhile ago. As such maybe it would be best to trail this back to talks about the topic.

While most people here are being pretty reasonable and raising valid concerns tbh the level of criticism leveled at WP and the entitlement that has gone around here is more than a little offputting. I mean, we're talking about a 'service' that is 100% free and probably not even handled by the company itself. It's just an auxiliary website of another website that is ALSO 100% free and run by a single guy predating the existence of the company being held at large.
I respectfully disagree.
This would all have made sense if Homestuck was still "a guy drawing some webcomics".
But the moment you start selling merchandise and raising funds for publishing a game, you just HAVE to take care of your customers. Because they are CUSTOMERS, not just random readers.
WP got TWO AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS in advance without actually having published anything, just because prople trusted them. This is more than enough to qualify their customers as actual CUSTOMERS, thus deserving at least a bit of respect.

I think maybe this thread oughta be locked for a little while. I'm not seeing much productive coming from this discussion anymore.

Yeah guys, I think we should drop the Soft Owl argument.
As for the MSPA Forums, I think at this point we've done enough trying to get information. All relevant sources definitely know about the problem by now and are presumably working on it.
Yes it would be nice to get some official confirmation, but we've asked for confirmation enough, and I think we're going to get it when we get it. I think continuing to try and get information now is just going to waste both our time and their time.
Some bad words are being thrown around in here about the (presumable) person of What Pumpkin who tried to respond to Blackhole's post. Yes their response wasn't very ideal either, but it's what it is and again, they're stressed enough as it is.
Things aren't ideal right now (far from it), but I think that for now we should take the situation as it is and wait.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the topic needs to be locked, more information could come up at any time and it is useful to have a place to discuss it (frankly it's the only reason I came to these forums, I can read Superego elsewhere and I'm not that interested in discussing Homestuck any more). We just need to stop dragging people through the mud, that's all. That doesn't mean a cessation of all conversation.
I'm in the camp who would prefer to believe that the "What Pumpkin Response" was from an anonymous troll, especially as no more official source has yet come forward to corroborate their words, so as far as I'm concerned we still know nothing but could learn something at any time, as soon as someone stops neglecting their responsibilities and lets us know what is actually going on.

Well, if you wanna make a thread here temporarily, we can become your readers for a while and input some commands. Because of the smaller size and community feeling, people who weren't really part of the fan adventure community on the forums are getting involved. I know that I mostly wasn't interested in fan adventures that much before because it was so overwhelming, but now that there's a fresh start I wanna participate in them more. I'm not sure how well that would work... everyone would want to catch up and i have ~300 panels. Maybe if there was some more support i'd be up for it. I'm also not sure how i would migrate any updates done here to mspaforums if they come back. Thank you for the suggestion though!

I also had some...disagreements with Soft Owl in the past. In hindsight they were minor things and I think I just made a few early mistakes, but they left a bad taste in my mouth, and took a while to get my frustration down. I've put it behind me, and hopefully she has too, if she remembers at all. I'm not saying I hate her or anything, far from it. I can get that sometimes people can be hard to work with. But I just wanted to speak up to point out that neferiusnexus's experience was not an isolated incident. Well you shouldn't have. Whether or not Soft Owl was good at moderation is completely irrelevant to this topic or anything that should be brought up right now. The last communication we had related to her was that she doesn't even work with the site any more, and she has also completely vanished from the internet, so all that having this discussion can do is drop bile on someone who can't defend themselves, for absolutely no useful purpose. Not necessarily. The discussion has evolved into a talk about WP's services as a whole. That includes the behavior of individual WP employees. Talking about Owl is just a natural consequence of that discussion. As long as the discussion doesn't become offensive or made of empty insults, there's nothing wrong with it. I guess if everyone wants to drop it we'll drop it then, though.

I think we all need to find any archives we can and download it into a safety server in case they don't care enough to ever fix it.

As has been previously mentioned multiple times Soft Owl already doesn't work with the forums any more and has entirely disappeared from the internet, so even if we were discussing What Pumpkin as a whole, discussing her would still be entirely outside of that topic. As she already no longer works at that position then there is literally nothing to ever be gained by discussing her previous actions. Talking about someone who literally has no web presence is never going to be relevant to this discussion.

It doesn't do anyone any good to rag about someone who has retreated from an online presence in this thread. What does that even accomplish? Nothing. Because it's in the past and has no relevance on the present situation. It's like complaining about getting sold a bad ice-cream flavor from a store that discontinued that flavor a decade ago.

There seems to be a relatively intact archive on wayback machine, i'll try put it on an external hard drive so we don't lose one of the last fragments of our beautiful old forums.

If there is a lesson be be learned here is that, if MSPA Forums ever come back, you have gotta backup everything you care about from that forum. ALL OF IT. True. But that's a general habit to take with the Internet. If you find anything significant you wouldn't like to see disappear, you'd better save it. Yeah, ANYTHING. Even this picture of Jack Noir on a dolphin jumping into the sun while singing 'I Just Can't Wait To Be King". Which is not to say that anyone's reached monkey status yet. Charles Darwin may have some bad news for you.

Yeah, the web archive at least is pretty extensive. It didn't capture a lot of threads (the adventures i checked were gone for good, and i wouldn't be surprised if all the gangbunch stuff was gone too), but looks like there's at least a good amount of comic discussion.

Finally found this new mspa substitute.
Either they decided to do a cool update, or, more likely, hackers decided to wreck it.
I am probably really, really behind on this discussion, unless no one knows what occured.

There are very, very, few things we know for sure. But one of them is that the cause was hackers, not intentional downtime.

Man, this is really upsetting, just the thought of MSPAF never coming back, a lot of people's hard work just gone. This is why I started web-archiving the "Photoshop Game" thread, or at least some of its recent stuff.
It just makes me really paranoid now, you know? Like I've always had a fear of opening up an old bookmark and seeing an error message or just nothing at all. I should really donate to the Wayback Machine, what they've created has proven invaluable

Honestly, I'd settle for them putting up a message of "hey, its broken, we're sorry, here's this other forum the community has made to regroup on their own, best of luck with that", because the main appeal of the forums to me was having *seven years* worth of shared internet history, talking to these people who I considered my internet friends. I've basically found myself spontaneously evicted from my internet home, and while I might miss my metaphorical furniture, I miss my roommates way more. These guys who I played Minecraft with and who got me into MLP and who at one point valued my presence and opinions enough to collectively nominate me into a moderator position.
I haven't even used the forums to talk about Homestuck itself for a couple years; I was there explicitly for the community to talk about all the cool movies and games and TV shows we loved. Hopefully this place will grow a nice media section to do the same with whoever's found their way from there to here.

Ow. That's physically painful news to read. The "Throwaway" anon was likely just a trolling jerk then, out seeking a more potent reaction of some kind. I'd wager about a 99.9% certainty on that.
The impression I get is that What Pumpkin just doesn't have that many people actually working for them at this point, and whatever staff they do have might not be trained in forum repairs... or even have any idea what they're looking at. It's depressing to think about, but I honestly expect that any official news we'll get at this point will probably come after 4/13, be it good or bad news. ...
Honestly, I find it hard to say anything that hasn't already been said about the situation, and I can't help but look back at my own past and see history repeating itself, and that's kind of what hurts more, seeing history repeat itself again. It's hard to be optimistic, having seen that.

Am I permitted to do so?
