I sometimes question why we allow guest comments on threads when the previous forums did not. Is there even a way to disable it? If so, I'd prefer if we disable it, given the potential malicious uses outweighing the constructive uses in any given situation. If someone wants to talk about something, they can make an account for that, it's not that hard.

I've worked with proboards before and I'm fairly certain this is an option you can disable (and it's probably a good idea, to avoid bot adverts), but to be honest as this forum isn't very big and is unlikely to grow more now that it's announced that someone actually is working on fixing the real forum, it probably won't harm either.

If it gets too out of hand, then we'll probably disable it.

Yeah, it's not currently causing any problems. If in the future problems do arise from it, then we can disable it then.

Yeah, so far I've seen far more constructive guests than guests who were not. Some spam-guests have already been ip-banned.
If it gets actually problematic, then I'll consider shutting down the guest post option, but for now I think we're fine.

Actually, you know what, maybe it is time we disable the guest post option, since so many lately haven't been bothering familiarizing themselves with the rules or the forums in general

yeah.
A guest replied on my "Fourm Adventure" after i said "commands aren't allowed" saying "Then whats the point"? I mean i don't want to sound like a salty asshat here, but it just felt like he waltzed in, say "Your fourm adventure fucking sucks" And walked out.
+1 Sharkalien.

It's just that your "forum adventure" wasn't really one at all. Forum adventures are reader-driven. Yours wasn't. That's why I moved it to Creative Works

It actually kind of pisses me off Con Air hasn't gotten a account by now, but judging people is not my place.

I've made a poll here to let the community decide whether we will continue to allow guests or not.

As far as I know, there's nothing stopping guests from registering an account, unless they're like, 12, and don't have an email address

Okay so here's the thing, in the US you are supposed to be 13 or older to post online without adult supervision. This applies to forum accounts. It's a huge legal issue.

eerr is correct. This forum needs to follow the COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Pact), and as a consequence I cannot allow a user younger than 13 to be on these forums. It also a part of the Terms of Service that you must have agreed to when you registered your account. There is nothing I can do about that.
I am afraid that I will need to disable your account, catareachkon.

COPPA never really stopped anyone, did it? I'm fairly sure there's several more underage posters in this forum, they're just smart enough to not say it.

That is possible, but as far as I'm aware I am legally prohibited from allowing any user younger than 13 to be using an account on these forums when I am made aware of such a situation being true. It can apparently give the government or Proboards themselves the right to shut down these forums if such users are allowed here.

Yeah, its kind of like talking about how you're under 18 on a porn site or under 21 while drinking alcohol in a restaurant.
Also a guest just posted a spam thread that I can't figure out how to delete so I blanked out the post (sorry for those who really wanted to know where to buy sports jersies) and locked it.

Yeah, I think only admins can entirely delete posts. Is it possible to prevent guests from starting threads, but otherwise allow them to post?

I only just found out that deleting posts was apparently a feature standardly disabled for moderators. I enabled it now for all moderators. Is it possible to prevent guests from starting threads, but otherwise allow them to post? Done!
