I really want the idea of Homestuck 2.0, or some sort of extra franchise-making using the extremely strong IP that MSPA is, to be successful. At least from a marketing standpoint, it's wise to turn it into a sort of brand, as long as everything's still good. However... I just don't have faith in it. Two reasons why: 1) They still haven't given an official statement on the MSPA Forums after two months, despite saying they want to improve communication. 2) They won't allow fan projects to do anything like crowdfunding or any fundraising to be able to actually sustain a fan project. If they want fan content so badly, then they should make sure projects like S RDA don't take four years or projects like Homestrife 4 1/3 have to be cancelled due to lack of time and ability. (Conflict of interest: my own fan project has been going on for over 4 years and the ability to crowdfund would have been awesome) Maybe they're going more for the Youtube Community News Channel format than anything, but if they actually want any ambitious fan projects to help enhance the brand and/or show off the fandom, they can't treat the fandom exactly as they do now. Have you tried to tell them that via their....new way of communicating with the fandom? I mean, I personally would doubt how well that would get to them considering there's probably a lot of people sending them messages and things at once but...at least you could say you tried.

Well I personally got banned from Youtube in 2012 for posting Bill Bolin songs and getting three copyright strikes, but I'm not sure how much Youtube works as a communiction platform. Have they been communicating with fans on there so far? I haven't seen anything in particular but I also didn't look super hard.

Maybe? It's kinda unclear how people are supposed to submit stuff to them in the first place... the video says "all the information is down below" but there is no information down below, unless I'm just being stupid.

I'm just not sure Homestuck would work in any other format than: 1) webcomic-based, as-is 2) lengthy, animated series Or 3) ultra-confusing but interesting OVA
My rationale is that in other formats (especially live action) so much would be lost that it wouldn't really be Homestuck anymore, it would be something else trying to ride the Homestuck name and limited, selected tropes to success. Which would feel extremely forced.

We've already seen Hussie's skill with medium transitions.

the thing is though, if it would to become an animated series, wouldn't the majority of the episodes be just a bunch of kids typing on their laptops? xD

I've mentioned it before, but I love this picture I have in my head of Dave starting his rap as John leaves the room to go down to the kitchen to get his game....only for us to hear Dave still doing it when John comes back to his room and opens the door.

Come on now, everyone knows the only reason they're making Homestuck 2.0 is so that Hussie can kiss Dante in real life

Anyone who's seen the Monogatari Series animes knows that there's ways to make long static conversations interesting even if it's just two characters standing around. The comic would have to be heavily adapted, but it'd still work as an animated series. Don't think anyone will ever put the budget/effort to make a good adaptation, though, and there's probably better mediums for Homestuck to enter into anyway.

Think John talking to Dave about the beta WHILE he messes with all the junk in his room.

I mean, even if the kids DID still primarily type on their computers, you could still have voiceovers expressing what they're writing, or show some kind of side-by-side of the kids doing stuff while also typing to one another. That's nothing new... there are plenty of examples of TV/movies where a character begins to silently read a letter, a voiceover of the letter's author begins to play while the recipient reads, and then the letter writer's voicover continues to play while a montage of other actions goes on.

Yeah, one benefit of an animation would be showing 90% of the interesting action that was not included in Homestuck (fighting, game mechanics etc) because, honestly, the webcomic format was an awkward medium to begin with.

Not quite, I don't think. Colab sets it up so the text is "typed" "live" onscreen as it's narrated, what this describes isn't the same. Unless you're talking about the narration instead of the conversations, in which case yes.

Would Homestuck work better as a radio show, then? I mean, those tend to have quite a lot of talking. But I haven't seen those in soooo long since radios are kind of not a big thing anymore.

I suppose. Never knew how those would even work considering they are audio only and homestuck's pretty big on images too.

Yeah, I was going to mention how Homestuck would be better suited for visual media, but I didn't want to spark another debate. Anyway, it would probably work a little something like this

Yeah, there are tons of really popular podcasts these days, a lot of which mimic the format of radio plays (Thrilling Adventure Hour) or other kinds of radio (Welcome To Night Vale). I don't think Homestuck as a whole could be translated to a primarily-audio format very easily just because so much of it involves watching big cool flashy things happen, and I dunno how well it would work if characters were just describing it... but some kind of well-made spinoff that mostly involves characters talking? Sure, I could totally see that. People already like recording themselves voice acting pesterlogs and such.

I would love to watch listen to a Homestuck spin-off that was pure audio, just to see hear what it would be like.
