Since most of the threads here are MSPA-related (even though this is technically for non-MSPA related discussion), I figured I'd start up a new thread about something completely different: Pokemon!
This is a game series that I am very fond of, considering my profile picture, and I am very excited for anything Pokemon related.
Some Current Hot-Button Topics: -Pokemon's 20th Anniversary -RBY Rerelease on the 3DS eShop. -Pokemon Sun and Moon coming out for the holidays -Pokken Tornament, the newest game release.
Feel free to discuss anything and everything Pokemon related here.

I'm a huge Pokémon fan too! Both of the games and of the anime. Unfortunately due to being very busy the past few years (partly due to becoming such a devoted Homestuck fan), I still haven't finished Pokémon Black and don't have X/Y yet. Other than that I've played a whole bunch of Pokémon games already, both the main series and some of the spin-offs.
Still actively following the anime though. I've seen all episodes from the beginning uptil circa halfway through the second XY season now.

I never got into the anime, to be honest. I always thoguht the plot and characters were too thin for me personally.

Pokemon was what first got me into shipping (Pokeshipping4lyfe! *gags*), which is weird because I myself had very little interest in relationships outside of a few key instances. Nowadays I spend most of my time with Pokemon watching Youtube videos of people who employ unusual strategies in wifi battles.
It's always good to see a Little Cup pokemon get the chance to sweep through some kid's team of shiny legendaries.

I promised myself I'd finish a pokemon game eventually. But I'm not even up to the third gym in fire red yet ; -;

I've been playing since Diamond, and played all of the games from that point except for B2/W2, which I hope to get eventually.
Are there any Shiny Hunters here, by the way?

Blastoise all the way. I haven't played any of the pearl/diamond gen or x/y. Got sort of bored with ruby/sapphire and gave it a rest a gen. Loved Black/white though.

I'll probably try Shiny hunting when I'm done with a game, since it'll be easier then.

I never really went Shiny hunting. I always thought that Shinies were more "special" if you kinda just....happened on one. The first shiny I ever legit caught was a shiny Lillipup in my White game. But since, then all of the shinies I have are either event Pokemon or from trading.

I think the only shiny I ever got was a Rattata (hell if I'm going to look up how to spell that correctly).
That, and of course the red Gyarados.

I'm a bit of a Shiny Hunter myself, and I'm currently trying to hatch a Shiny Eevee. But I'm taking a bit of a break by soft resetting for Shiny Giratina for a bit.
I caught most of the Legendaries in Omega Ruby, though, so I'll need to buy Alpha Sapphire for the Legendary Beasts trio and Cobalion (along with the exclusives), HeartGold for Ho-Oh (as I lost both HG and SS), and Black 2 for Tornadus. I'll probably need to trade for a Shiny Reshiram as it's Shiny-locked in Gen V.

They're just... differently colored pokemon.

Well I mean unless you hack yours in (which a lot of people do), shinies are still rare enough that it's a legitimate accomplishment. I think the lowest you can possibly get is somewhere in the realm of 1 in 1500 or something like that? That's still pretty low odds!

I missed out on Mew for the event legendary month things, so I'm going to end up with a pokedex that's 99.8% complete. :T

I don't think you can even get Arceus without hacking in his debut game, much less a shiny one...

I was wondering how long it'd be before a Pokémon thread got made.
Pokémon is, for better or worse, my #1 interest and obsession. It's probably unhealthy how ridiculously obsessed I am with the series, but hey, loving something is never bad imo!
Pretty sure the manga is the only major aspect of Pokémon I've never touched. I've watched the entirety of the anime, which actually is really good in XY, I would definitely recommend it! The Sinnoh seasons are also really friggin good, and Hoenn is also a fun time. Avoid BW like the plague though. I'm a huge spinoff enthusiast. To this day Explorers of Sky is my favourite videogame ever. Period. I also love Pokémon Conquest and Pokken, they;'re both super fun. Ranger is also good.
I of course have played the main series titles. I think I've never touched Gold/Silver (but I played Crystal and HeartGold so those kinda count), but I've played every single other main series title at least once. My top 3 at the moment are ORAS, BW and HGSS. My least favourite by a mile is Red/Blue/Yellow. I could go into why but I won't for now.
My first games were Ruby and Sapphire, but I went played and played the others some time before Diamond and Pearl came out.
As for shinies, I have a bunch from the plethora os playthroughs I've done in ym time, but I'm not an active shiny hunter. I have a couple of competitive ones (Chesnaught and Greninja) which my friend gave me because he already had competitive shinies of those (he is just ridiculously lucky with shinies. Many time he'll be trying to breed a specific gender and will get a shiny before he gets the specific gender he wants). Speaking of competitive, I am a competitive battler, and not to toot my own horn too loud, but I'm fairly good at it too. I sink more hours of my life into Showdown that I should or want to. It just kinda happens. Recently I finished making a team for every single OU mega. That was fun, I guess?
Oh and I can't wait for Sun and Moon. I'm hopeful for news in May's Corocoro, but nothing's been 100% promised on that front ("huge scoop" has meant many things in the past), so I'm being my usual cautiously optimistic self.

You all make me feel old. I was in 5th grade when Pokemon red/blue came out. Still have fond memories of creating extra mews with the duplicate glitch on the playground during recess.

I'm not touching the anime, with it's immortal protagonist D: Although honestly they need a switchup. From the second season, they should have removed Ash and left him as a older side-character, like a mentor figure for the next younger character to take his place.

im about to be 21 this year lotus. i was like, just about the age to be pokemons main target demographic when ruby and sapphire were released. i dont actually have any early pokemon memories though. especially not playground ones. i have one from much later about some dude who pronounced celebi as she-le-bye but thats about it the animes main issue is that they havent really had plot in mind until more recently and even then its more gradual and less important. the anime is more about showing off pokemon in their habitats, and about fun one of episodes (ala simpsosn style of cartoon) than telling a story. which is why ash is still at the helm. i like the think he HAS aged, and to just ignore bw being awful. here's a few fun links on ash and aging if like me you like pokemon trivia. xyz has a definite focus on plot more than previous series have (although its worth nothing that best wishes adventures in unova also had some plot of interest), so there's that. i do deifnitely wish they went for an actual plot though. make ash win the kalos league and retire. he was a damned good, competitive team for it (his pikachu is really strong by now, he basically has a mega greninja, he has a talonflame, a hawlucha, and a noivern), and he's shown to have good competitive knowldges. they definitely could do it, and i kinda want them to. will they though? i somehow doubt it, but still. it's nice to dream.

Ruby and Sapphire were also my first Pokemon games, although i played them much later, right before Diamond and Pearl came out. If I had to choose a gen that I liked the least, it would be GSC and their remakes.

Yeah I have like
60, 66 shinies? Lots of shinies. And only about 15 of those are blatantly hacked legendaries I took from the GTS. I was really into hunting for shinies in the Safari and stuff back when XY came out. I kinda fell off the Pokemon wagon shortly after, but I'm hoping Sun and Moon pulls me back in. Gotta get some mileage out of a few of the ones I bred at least.

I'd highly suggest to anyone looking into the more in depth mechanics of multiplayer to check out people like Pimpnite and Verlisify on Youtube like I said I do above, it's pretty entertaining to watch and Pimpnite specializes in so-called "theme teams", teams where the Pokemon you have revolve around some kind of overarching theme like the Pokemon that look or act like another media's character or a team of randomly hatched Pokes.

My favorites have been X&Y, my least favorites were B&W. Maybe I would have found them okay if I had played them before X&Y, but going from a game where I felt like I had a HUGE selection of pokemon to train and most all of them were excellent fighters to a game where I felt like I had fuck all options and everything sucked, it was just brutal. I don't play pokemon for a challenge so that game was absolutely none of my interest.

My favorite games were the Gen IV main games, especially Pokemon Platinum (so many memories with that game). My least favorite was X/Y. The story was good, but the post-game was kind of underwhelming. I'm not asking for anything huge, but please give us more than the Friend Safari, Battle Maison, and PokeRadar (which, by the way, I don't recommend using to find Shinies; it's hard and annoying as heck).
