>Read random excerpt from Knightly Combat Vol. 2 >Place empty bag on head The technique on this page is called "End Him Rightly". It proceeds like so: If you wish to end him rightly[1], hold your sword up on your arm. You must unscrew the pommel and throw it at him vigorously. Close in with the throw and use your sword or spear at him, whichever suits you best.
Ok. That seems super impractical.
Yeah you're not going in there. You think you hear muffled eldritch screeching? Sounds like a bad plan. Besides, you aren't sure you can even fit in it. Thank goodness. If for whatever reason you absolutely had to venture in you ought to at least make yourself a tether to this world just in case. Maybe tie yourself to a tree? Regardless it seems like a bad plan going in here.

>Actually get your damn stats in order! Time to assign your STATS! Welcome to the Six big S's of your Self! Note: There are always more! Ahahaha! But only three. I promise. They're your HP, MP, and Regular Stamina. but with fancy names because alliteration! First STAT! [SMARTS]! This stat determines how quickly you grasp the art of magic, as well as how much magic spells will take from your [SPIRIT] which we will get into later. It affects your general knowledge of he sciences and mechanical items. High enough [SMARTS] can also allow you to create advanced mechanical items with the proper materials. Next up! [STRENGTH]! This stat is used to determine how much you can carry without having to stop and rest every few minutes, how much damage melee attacks and bows do to your opponent, and determines how much [STEADFASTNESS] you start with. Third: [SLICKNESS]! Think you've got a silver tongue? Chances are you're pretty slick then. Slickness affects how good you are at manipulating and conning people, and how good you are at haggling prices with vendors or merchants. Slickness also affects how much damage you do with spells, because you are literally forcing nature to obey your commands and whoever is doing that must have some serious skills getting forces of the universe to do what they want. Fourth: [SLIPPERINESS]! A good example of someone who is slippery is Harry Houdini, as he could get out of anything. The slippery-er you are, the harder you are to catch and to spot in tight situations. It also affects how good at dodging incoming attacks, and alters show deft and sticky your hands are. You won't find a single good thief with a low [SLIPPERINESS] stat. [STAMINA]: This skill affects how much of a beating you can take without getting knocked out cold, as well as how far you can run before collapsing on the ground panting like a dog. In more direct terms, it affects how slowly you deplete your [STEADFASTNESS] meter, and your starting level of [SALUBRITY]. (In other words, your number of hit points.) Finally, you have [SIGHT]! This stat is basically how well your eyes work. It determines just how perceptive you are and how aware of your surroundings are, and even how likely you are to hit a target with any kind of attack. Any archer worth his salt has a high [SIGHT] stat, and a knight who wants to actually his his opponent has at the very least a decent [SIGHT], at least high enough that their helm doesn't effect them all too much, and mages use sight to accurately target their spells. You currently have [27] points to spend on your stats. Spend wisely. You will get one point to add to your stats every two levels.

Ha! You actually had 27 points to spend! Maybe you read the info dump wrong originally? Either way, you now have [THREE] emergency stat points. Also, you notice a slight improvement in the graphics of the area. Maybe the reboot forced the download of a med-res pack? Who knows. Anyways, with your new stats, what will you do?

>Make a vow to become the best warrior in the land. Kill the guy. Hmm. There are aspects of becoming a Great Knight that always drew your interest, but the political implications of going for such a life aren't horribly appealing. Then there's the fact that joining a knightly brotherhood or declaring fealty to a lord means you must fight alongside other knights and you don't know how you might be affected if a friend fell in combat. But every path in life has its problems. You just aren't sure if you want to make your decision just yet. Besides, becoming THE greatest? You would wager that would probably involve fighting the god of battle at some point and the idea of fighting someone immortal to the death doesn't strike you as quite terribly possible.
And why kill him? You haven't even talked to him yet! He could be the nicest guy in the whole world and you'd have killed him for nothing. Also, a detail worth mentioning, nowhere in your inventory do you have a weapon. What will you do?

Examine your various spell books. Are they listed in order of power or is that assumption false? Also, what level of Smarts would one have to have to use them effectively?

Examine your various spell books. Are they listed in order of power or is that assumption false? Also, what level of Smarts would one have to have to use them effectively? First off. Holy shit. there are way to many spells in here. Who needs to summon a single candle at a time? And why do you need to have two candles to do it? So bizarre. You guess that every profession has these weird things that just don't make sense. Oh well. Anyways, on the subject of multiple books on magic... Its just the one. Its charmed similarly to the bag and has managed to fit several books into the space of one. How many you aren't sure. But its a lot. You spend several minutes flipping through the pages. After a while you notice that they get progressively more difficult, so you return to the beginning, having not reached the end. The spells your current [SMARTS] allows you to preform proficiently are as follows: [FIRESTREAM] cost of [5 SPIRIT/SECOND] [MAGIC SHIELD] cost of [50 SPIRIT] lasting five minutes [MINOR HEALING] cost of [30 SPIRIT] for return of [15 SALUBRITY] and [WEAK PSYCHIC LINK] with a cost of [100 SPIRIT] lasting two minutes.
Oh and you can preform two really weird rituals. The one with the candle and one where you do the macarena to summon a ghost who then does the macarena and disappears. So useful.
You currently posses [120 SPIRIT], [120 STEADFASTNESS], and [120 SALUBRITY].

Drop one or two remaining stat points into Smarts, in the hopes of gaining a few more useful spells. You decide to only use [ONE] so you can have double the flexibility in an emergency. By adding [ONE] point to [SMARTS], your [SPIRIT] rises to [150]! The cost of some of your other spells has gone down a little as well. Now that you're a little smarter, you have the ability to cast some more complicated spells. Studying the book you have gained the following spells: [MODERATE PSYCHIC LINK] costing [140 SPIRIT] [RECUPERATE ] costing [60 SPIRIT] with a return of [10 SALUBRITY] and [20 STEADFASTNESS] [POSSES LESSER] costing [150 SPIRIT] with total control of the lesser for [FIVE] minutes while your body enters a trance. [ONLY WORKS WITH NON-SENTIENT BEINGS] [SUMMON SHADE] costing [100 SPIRIT] with your shade clone having half of your current [SALUBRITY], lasts for [TWO] minutes, and can receive only simple commands [FIREBALL] costing [40 SPIRIT] and can travel 100 meters before fizzling out. [SUMMON WEAPON] cost of [50 SPIRIT] summons weapon you are most proficient in into your hands. Lasts until put away, dropped, or removed from your hands. and [STATIC BURST] cost of [60 SPIRIT] contact spell, best used in a situation where one would make contact, for example: a brawl, or, toning down the power, as a practical joke where you shake the other's hand and give them a nasty shock, without hurting them too much. Or do hurt them. I'm a book. What do I care?
Thats quite a few spells. criminy. Well, with that out of the way, what will you do now?

Hide your thieve's locator so as to not make the guard suspicious, and then go talk to him. Yeah, probably best to put your other stuff away, too. Don't want to be carrying a library around under your arm when you have a perfectly good bag. You make sure to have the rest of the items cover the locator as best as you can. Even if that isn't very well at all. Whatever.
Upon approaching the guard, he readies his spear, and a robed mage appears beside him. Your [SMARTS] allows you to know that the mage is casting what looks like a [REVEAL TRUTH] charm. You aren't sure you can lie to these people, but you aren't sure if you ever had any intention of doing so in the first place. They seem a little on edge. What will you do?

Say hello and ask where you are. You greet the Wall Guard and company with a wave. ----Dialogue----
[IA]: Hello! [GUARD]: State your name and business, or be taken into custody.
You think to yourself that this is clearly the nicest person you have ever met. He is also the first person you can recall interacting with. So technically he's also the worst. Isn't that an interesting juxtaposition you think.
----Dialogue----
[IA]: Uh. My name is Immemor Augur. I think. Not sure. But what I am sure about is that I am lost and have no clue where I am. Could you possibly give me directions? [GUARD]: Where are you from? [IA]: I'm... not entirely sure? I think from over that way. Just by that purple flower. [GUARD]: ... [GUARD]: What are you carrying in the bag? [IA]: Just some stuff. I found it over there too, by the flower. [GUARD]: Clarify. Stuff is vague. If you do not comply we will not hesitate to take you in for further questioning.
Oh boy. These guys seem more than just a little on edge. You aren't sure if they'll take you for having a thief's locator or not. What do you say to these people? Its not like [REVEAL TRUTH] charms are foolproof, a good enough lair could probably trick several at once, but you aren't sure if you want to deal with the consequences of lying to a heavily armoured legionary and a psionic mage. How do you go about this?
