I'm actually pretty embarrassed by the fact that 90% of the time I only pick up bands/series/YouTube channels that are popular. I kind of want to be a hipster and find some diamond in the rough that I can act all pretentious about knowing before they got big, but the sad truth is that I find most of these things by looking at something that's already popular, wondering why everybody likes it so much, and then getting hooked. I console myself with the fact that I also hate a lot of things that are popular, and I do have my unknown and lesser-known favorites, they're just fewer. ...Much fewer. *sobs* I don't want to be a sheep...

That's all I can think of right now.

I like being a... uh... "Sheep", to be honest. Although I prefer the word "Mainstreamer". I like things other people like, and what? Most of the times I want to beat the living shit outta a hipster when he starts acting pretentious, so I dunno why anyone would wanna be like that, hahahaha.

It's mostly that I don't like the thought that I'm just going along with what everyone else is doing. I like having things that are unique to me, or at least rare enough that when I find someone else that likes it, we can geek about it together and no one else will know what we're talking about, like a hipster island in the mainstream sea.
I also don't have a lot of interests (at least not that other people are interested in--no one wants to hear me nerd about marine biology wehh) so sometimes I wonder if I'm even all that interesting. That's probably why the idea of something unknown that I like becoming mainstream and being able to tell people that are new to it all about its history appeals to me.

My music library ranges everywhere from super popular mega-hits to amateur songs from Newgrounds. I often find myself in that wierd range of the music being too popular to be considered hipster, but either still too unknown for the average person to know (The Birthday Massacre, DJ Satomi, Unicorn Kid, etc.), or of genres that most people don't listen to casually (Film Score, Video Game Soundtrack, etc.).

My Music Library contains TV show songs and soundtracks (mostly Anime, in that department), a few Movie soundtracks (All three BTTF movie soundtracks feature here, primarily), Video Game soundtracks, a few misc. tracks that I only ever heard during online radio streams (Usually during a dance party in a video game), and Homestuck. All together, my MP3 player has almost 2,000 tracks on it- and that's not even *every song* I have put on it simply for space reasons. @_@;

I'm on my third iPod, not because my previous iPods broke down, but because I ran out of room for all my songs on them...

Personally I listen to hits from the 70s-90s, as well as "Geek Rock" (Mostly They Might Be Giants and Lemon Demon). My partner, who likes stuff like the Antlers and Glass Animals, constantly makes fun of my music taste, but that's okay because I do the same to them. It's kind of a joke at this point how wholly incompatible are music tastes are, especially because everything else about us compliments each other perfectly.

I almost always listen to video game soundtracks. If not that, then rock and roll and Japanese music. It's hard for me to get into mainstream stuff unless if it's related into gaming (like Undertale, for example) and memes ("We Are Number One" and Grand Dad, anyone?), so I'm way out of touch of what my peers are into. I don't even know if One Direction is still a "cool" thing with other American teens or if another boy band took over.

For some reason I thought that nobody liked One Direction unironically. I just now realized, "Oh yeah, tweenage girls." I bet 12-year-old Blizzriel would have loved them.
...I don't think I've ever heard any of their songs.

i'm a hypocrite. I always rag on people for judging a game because of it's fandom, but I've fallen into the same dilemma myself. I used to be big on Undertale last year recently my friends have been obsessed with it, more than I was and it's becoming so annoying! Undertale this, Undertale that. This is probably how my friends feel whenever I talk about Homestuck.

InternallyLactiad, it is perfectly okay to like a game but dislike its fandom. Please note that your colleagues obsessiveness with Undertale isn't because of the game themselves, but rather because of them, and you should strive to make a clear separation between the two. There are people who will be annoying about something - but that does not necessarily mean that thing is annoying. Similarly, simply because certain members of a community are hellishly atrociously annoying, you should not assume other people are likewise. However, I probably wouldn't judge you for such a thing - I've done it myself, especially with the MLP community, and I'm fairly sure it's an actual human brain thing, something about filling in the gaps when you don't have enough information. I do not disagree nor agree with your statement about yourself and Homestuck, but try to keep positive thoughts on your head - if they enjoy Homestuck, chances are they'll probably be okay when you talk about it. Just don't go "OMGGGG I SHIP thIS and THIS and TROLSSS!!!" because that will always get on everyone's nerves, and that applies for pretty much anything. Obsessive gushing is annoying, don't do it.

I still enjoy the game and I still think it was the best game of 2015. But the fanbase reminds me a lot of FNAF, both are pretty solid games but their fanbases are filled with overly-hyper 12 year old kids. I think the best part of playing a good game is being able to finish it and share discuss it. UnderTale was so much fun when it started out. The fanbase had so much content being produced, Like animations, art, Fan theories and all sorts of stuff related to the game. Now you might find some really good content but it seems like UnderFell has taken over the community. Sadly, the fanbase is moving further and further from the source material. I know I shouldn't dislike the game because of the community surrounding it, but I can't help but see the characters differently now that they've been shoved down my throat like this. But I get where you're coming from.

I'm a freshman in college.
Everyone here has to work on a crew (or, rather, get a job), which more or less means that the entire student body is responsible for the upkeep of the campus. Liberal arts super hippie college up in the mountains, so you really wouldn't expect anything different. Commune shit. So I work on Dining, which is just a fancy way of saying I clean the dishes. And oh fucking boy, is it a goddamn trip. Not only am I the only one that actually does anything in there, but the people who bring their dishes half the time keep them so far away that I can't even reach them. I literally have to rub my fucking crotch against the dirty-ass metal counter just to get a fucking cup.
So about a week ago, I decided to leave a message in front of the window. Just a little something telling people they need to push their dishes further up the line so I can actually reach them without having to crawl nam-style across the bar. So I do; easy stuffy, should've gone fine, get the message across.
Unfortunately, my brain decided 'hey, why don't we go full autismo with this?' Which, of course, I fully agreed with.
So, instead of just politely telling people to push their dishes further down, what do I do? I make a big fucking poster of Karkat Vantas, with a text bubble above him saying in big, bold, grey letters, "PUSH YOUR EATING PLATTERS AND THREE-PRONGED SPIKE DEVICES UP THE FUCKING LINE BULGESTAIN. I AM NOT YOUR GODDAMN LUSUS." Somewhere, in the back of my mind, I actually thought this was a good idea.
So I didn't get caught; I put it up so early in the morning that no one actually noticed me doing it, and we don't really use cameras in the mess hall. I actually got a few laughs about it throughout the day, even a few Homestuck references from other students over the counter. Good laughs and all. But goddamn, did my manager go on a fucking witch hunt at the next meeting.

I have issues with my self-confidence and laziness. I'm pretty sure at this point I need some sort of help but I don't do anything about it because it makes me kinda scared and I don't care enough about it.

It's a strange mixture of both ironically and genuinely. I find it funny that such a phrase would ever be uttered from my own lips, but at the same time I think it's a nice cute thing to say. It's why I'll occasionally say archaic and outlandish slang words in day-to-day conversations just for the fun of it Like the other day I said, "Let's sweeten the kitty then, bucko"
