Welcome to the Hamsteak Hunger Games, where we all sit and feast on assorted meat products and laugh at those inside the arena without such wondrous food supplies. Indeed, one of the many "Seriously, it's HERE TOO!?" forum games has finally made it's way to the Omega Update forums (well, another.) Welcome to the Hunger Games simulator. Right now, this thread is using the same boring, stupid simulator that almost everyone else uses, but I'm in the process of procuring a home made one me and some friends on another forum used once upon a time. Once the more robust home product is shipped and ready, I will begin inputting the custom events and character stats, and we'll move away from the BrantSteele simulator. Unfortunately I cannot code myself (or at least, not very well), so further upgrades to the simulator might need to be facillitated by other members, but that's okay, because even at it's most base form, the homemade one is pretty much better than the original in basically every way. As a note, I have already acquired a version of the homemade simulator, all I currently require is the time and effort required to pull it together into a usable format and switch it to Homestuck themed. For a brief discourse relating to the simulator we will be upgrading to:
The biggest difference between the two is the tracking of STATS.
In the original, in addition to health, five other stats were tracked: Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Entities and Alchemies.
I believe we can track any number of stats ourselves, but personally I would prefer to keep it below 10 for simplicity's sake, although if people wish to track more than is fine.
That is the first order of business: Decide which stats we shall track.
Once the homemade simulator has been acquired (or remade should such be necessary) we'll start putting in characters and events.
Characters will have 30 points per stat (other than health) which can be arranged between the stats as desired, and 100 health (starting and technical max)
(As a note, anyone wanting to add big boss characters like Scratch, Bec Noir or LE, I'm wanting to see if there'll be some way to tag BOSSES, so we can give greater stats to such characters and still have things be fair. Same thing with weaker background characters like Salamanders or such only in the opposite direction. So wait on suggesting characters like that. Or suggest them anyways and balance their stats to reflect the balancing.)
Standard events will raise or lower different stats (including health) and happen regardless of one's abilities (although if any stat other than health drops below 0, the character will take damage in proportion to how far below they dropped, and have it bumped back up to 0.)
Lethal events are basically stat checks. It will take the character's related skills, roll a d20 to add points to their ability, and if they pass the check they live, if they fail the check, they die.
Additionally, there are strifes, where two characters will pit each other's stats against the other's and try to kill each other.
There may be other flavors of events, depending on which version of the simulator I am able to obtain, but those three will be included for sure as the standard vanilla package.
For right now though, we need to decide what stats will be included in the game.
In the meantime... Good news! I have obtained (at least most) of the coding used in a specific version. Not only does it contain standard static and lethal events... It also contains the coding for mashup events, which have different results depending on whether you pass or fail a check (other than killing you of course) Sadly, I am not fluent in Java, so either it'll take some time for me to figure it out and reverse engineer, or I'll get help from other peeps, but in the meantime, we still have a Hunger Games session ongoing...

I think Strenght, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Combat should suffice (with part of Energy projection+Strenght=Strenght and part of Energy projection+Weaponry=Combat, if you've already made character sheets with your stats). Intelligence should also encompass Charisma and Wisdom flavourwise.

The thing is, the way the engine works (at least for now), Strifes are handled using all of the stats, not just one, and having a single stat attributed to combat makes Strifes sort of one-sided towards certain people. I think we might want to find a better way to phrase that stat if possible. Anyways, on to the second day! And boy was it a blood bath. We had even more deaths than we did in the Bloodbath itself!

Hmmm... *Sigh* Sorry as I am to announce this, we may be having to go for 5 stats as a set thing due to the way reverse engineering is going. We'll almost certainly have something available, but I think we're gonna have to go for 5 stats, both for reasons of being able to have the simulator up on time and for reasons of being able to start submitting characters and events right now. To both neo and anyone else who might be watching this with interest, is this okay, or would it be worth potentially doing an extra round of "basic" Hunger Games to set up our own stats? Stats if we go forward: Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Energy, Weaponry As a side note, the next chunk of happenings in the ongoing session will be uploaded tomorrow. |

Indeed. The plan was originally to try and pick apart the coding on a friend's old homemade simulator to make custom events and whatnot, as well as to be able to add stats and things...
I can't code, and suddenly became busy enough that I'm a bit too caught up in other things to learn how to code Java.
I can give a link to the post where a bunch of code for a specific version was if anyone wishes to pick up that mantel to get that done so that we can ACTUALLY GET THINGS WORKING.
Until then, we'll just do Hunger Games.
Speaking of which, if anyone wants to switch out tributes in the next game, go ahead and say so.
Apologies for not updating, nobody was posting so it looked like no one was interested. Apologies for not updating TODAY because Omegasplit hit End of Act 1, which was VERY time intensive.

I don't have Java, and I don't think it's compatible with Chrome (I'm not sure), so I can't take up this responsibility, unfortunately, because even if Chrome is compatible, I have school, a fanventure collab, and a free commissions shop on another site on my plate.

Java's compatible with Chrome as far as I know, and even if it isn't, the thing was generally run offline then the results uploaded after the fact. But the rest of the explanation is perfectly acceptable. "Better things to do" is the reason I'm not doing it myself anyways. Anyways, moving on to the next update!
Night 3
Kanaya Maryam, Karkat Vantas, Andrew Hussie, and Spades Slick tell each other ghost stories to lighten the mood. Stories about the ghosts they made.

Spades Slick and Andrew Hussie hunt for other tributes. The two most bloodthirsty members of the tributes... This is a scary thought.
Night 4
Sollux Captor is unable to start a fire and sleeps without warmth.
Spades Slick cooks his food before putting his fire out.
Meenah Peixes and Kanaya Maryam tell stories about themselves to each other. I killed someone. Oh, I killed all my friends once. Savage.
Aradia Megido, Andrew Hussie, and Karkat Vantas cheerfully sing songs together.
Day 5
Sollux Captor, Karkat Vantas, Meenah Peixes, Spades Slick, and Kanaya Maryam hunt for other tributes.

Really? I didn't remember anything about the details of Spades's death. I thought the reason why Spades was crossed out was because Ms. Paint wasn't a tribute.
Anyways, it basically comes down to girl troll versus sadistic author. I will still not gamble, but if I am gambling, I would've put my money on the sadistic author.

Dangit, why does no one ever bring water to the sick dwarves trolls?The Showdown.It is the final day. One by one, the tributes have fallen. To explosives, other tributes, even to dogs and the raw harshness of the wilderness... Now, only two remain... Andrew Hussie stalked along the riverbank. The walls were closing in. Soon it would be time for the final confrontation. The one character he hadn't managed to get killed off properly. First she comes back after Eriden bores a hole in her chest, and now this? He really should've killed her when he had the chance earlier. Oh well, his fault for letting it go on this long. It was time to finish the comic the way it was MEANT to be finished. No quarter, no mercy, no survivors. He continued to walk forward. Really, it was a pretty hot day today, honestly, couldn't the setting be more... dramatic? Like a thunderstorm or something. Maybe he'd go for a quick swim... The walls may be closing in, but they're not closing THAT fast. Besides, he needed to be refreshed and ready for killing the last competitor. Kanaya Maryam walked towards the cornucopia, and gawked. It was still full. Tons of packaged food and weapons the entire time. She had just assumed that since she hadn't gone to the feast that everything would be taken, but nothing had. Weapons, food, water, medical supplies... Everything she could possibly want or need... This might actually improve her chances of survival... But no. She had fallen prey to the Huss's wiley way too many times. She had had him on the ropes earlier in the day, but he'd managed to escape her. Pile that on top of the many times he'd bested her in combat, she wanted to taste his blood personally. So she waited. Noon may have already passed, but there was plenty of time left for their showdown. And so she waited... And waited... Hours passed, night fell. And then she jumped as she heard the cracking boom of the final cannon. She looked up to the sky: ANDREW HUSSIE FELL INTO A FROZEN LAKE AND DROWNED (No, I'm not kidding. All this setup for an awesome showdown for the two and the moron DROWNS)Kanaya stands there, slack-jawed for a moment. Well, that was... easier than she expected. As the Crockercorp ship descended down to the Cornucopia to pick her up, Kanaya puzzled over how it could've happened. A trap left by another player? Perhaps he had decided to accede to her victory? But none of it made sense... Such a skilled survivor... She would never know that the man who had bested her so many times was probably the tribute single most unlikely to even make it that far, let alone defeat her. I suppose that is well enough though, losing all her friends in one fell swoop was likely a large enough burden in its own right. Epilogue: ERROR, author not found, epilogue cancelled. End results are in the spoiler to avoid spoiling the ending.

Those wolf mutts sure worked fast. Okay, here's the thing about Arena-wide events, they work as follows: Every contestant goes through one of 6 sub-events. The first is standard survival. 2 of them are just straight up dying. 2 more are one tribute killing another. The last is TWO tributes dying in the same event. Basically, as Markiplier would put it, everyone's fubber-nucked whenever one of these comes around. They are meant to kill a large number of tributes in a short amount of time. They do this well. It's up to you. Personally, I think the antics will be greater at 36 but anything beyond that might be a bit too much. But who knows? The more the merrier, bring it up to 36. Alrighty then, 36 it is!
