 An Apprentice Wizard stands in their bedroom. It is the 38th of Afluary, exactly 27 Stardates after their birth. But it is only today that they will be choosing their Element, after the grueling Test of Growth and Character Development. Really they should be asleep, but they're just so excited. They're going to see this room for the last time tomorrow as they leave for the Test, and that makes them sad because they have a lot of cool stuff in here, like their video games and treasure chests and wands and books. They also have fond memories of bringing friends over and thrashing them in whatever competitive way was possible in the moment. ... On the subject of remembering, what is your name again? |

Your Test is in a few hours and you haven't gotten enough sleep, nor do you think you will be able to get to sleep before you have to be awake anyways. What ,then, do you do? |

 You check out the stuff on your shelf. A lot of it isn't even wands, and you had an extra plaque so you decided to dignify a loose brick you stole from a construction site. Nothing to mimic Sunlight, at least not in a way you can pull off. |

Therefore, you just use the Wand of Forks to finish off the Oatmeal you were saving under your pillow. While you eat you imagine all the cool things you could do with the Wand when you can finally cast Elemental Magic. |

Moonlight does not count as sunlight unless it is full, otherwise it's too dim, and the stars are too far away so unless you happen to have a giant magnifying glass on hand you're shit out of luck for natural sunlight for another, what, five hours? |

At the base of the tower is an Outpost Village, acting as a safe stop at the base of the hill, a barrier of civilization between the mind-and-body bending vagaries of Change and Regret. It looks like someone is awake at the top. You don't actually know what they keep at the top of their tower. You don't even know what's on the top floor of your tower, and it's only one floor above you. How crazy is that, you think to yourself. Anyway, you wouldn't really call it a rival tower. The Red Tower is one potential home for any Red-Aligned Wizard. It's the closest Tower to your Unaligned Tower, so you've definitely been considering Time or Rage as your Elemant, thanks to repetition bias. |

 You pick up your ears again. You gotta stop dropping these things. It's like, everytime you forget about your ears they disappear and you find them on the floor. Reattaching them makes you kind of uncomfortable but oh well, life of a wizard you guess. |

>Contemplate how to choose an element, and why you haven't yet  To get your Element you must first take the Test of Growth and Character Development, and prove to the Masque of Foreverhand that you are worthy of a Coloured Hat. No one knows what the test actually entails, but you do know that not many survive. You must be 27 Stardates Old to take the test, and you are that old as of today. The only problem is Foreverhand only accepts clients during regular business hours, from 20.3228.3 BSH until 2939.159.3 ASH every day except Offdays and Downdays. Only 833.2921 tickits left until you can go take the test. And that's like, what, four and a half hours? You're pretty excited. |

You've found that whenever you consume it, you have to evacuate your bowels hours later. You keep some handy for when you get sick or when you want to take a power nap. You can choose to sleep up to 4 hours with these things. You have them packed and labelled in little vials. You used to keep all your lactose in a jug next to your sleeping bag, but Sweet Girl was adamant on organizing you. She always does that to everything, it's frustrating eating candy for dinner with her because she always arranges it in a hundred arbitrary ways before finally eating it and you just feel weird eating alone and then watching her play with her food for an hour. Anyways, before you sleep you should probably deal with the oatmeal on your face that's been falling on the floor. |
