We're here once again, and as the eleventh anniversary of Homestuck's beginning comes upon us, it's time again for MSPA Madness to return! And this brings us to the introspective questions that I feel like should start this with. Will Roxy continue her even year winning streak? Will the epilogues and Homestuck 2 have an influence on how the results stack up? Will a non-Homestuck character make it to the Elect Eight and yes I've used that before but it still hasn't happened?
Congratulations and welcome to the eighth annual MSPA Madness tournament, wherein we end up crowning the "best" [dubious] character from all of Andrew Hussie's works: From Homestuck to Jailbreak, from Hiveswap to And It Don't Stop, from Homestuck 2 to The Roarosaurs. Now, with how many characters there have been in all of those, trying to do a single elimination tournament would probably take years, so this is where the qualifying voting comes in. Rank up to your top sixty-four characters, and the highest scorers will enter into the tournament proper, resulting in the winner being crowned, yes, on April 13th. Some things don't change. "But," you might say, "I love this character from some obscure section that's never going to get any votes! How could they ever get into the tournament?" Well, much like how the UEFA Champions League has one club from every member state make it in at some point, so too will this competition. There will be one person representing Homestuck in here, and (assuming someone votes for them) someone representing Wizardy Herbert. These will likely be revealed a day before because it's easier to calculate who wins these rather than who scored what among everyone. After that, it's just straight up matches between characters until only one is left. Frequently Asked Question from before: Q: Do I have to fill up all 64 slots?A: No. Fill as many or as few as you want, just make sure to not skip any spaces. Q: Are these two characters the same person?A: Right off the top of my head, if it's akin to Mindfang and Aranea or Bro and Dirk, they are surely separate. If you still aren't sure, just put them both down anyways. As long as it's not intentional duplication (like a response I had before that answered literally every question with Jane Crocker), I'll overlook it. Also you notice how I'm changing this name every year? Yeah, people are still ignoring this. Q: What should I put for this character's name?A: Since I'm recording the data manually, it doesn't really matter which. Though please try to keep it as simple as you can while still being unambiguous. As fun as "science wwizard" was, "Eridan" is a lot nicer; while "PM" works, "AR" is still potentially confusing. Q: All of Hussie's old works?A: Yep. If Andrew Hussie had a part in making something, any character from it is eligible to be included in this tournament. Q: Where can I find some of the old comics?A: Unfortunately, the website containing Hussie's old works was taken down. You can try Internet Archive. I tested a few comics from that link; most work, but some are unfortunately broken. Still, it's better than nothing. So what are you waiting for? MSPA Madness is back!

And here we are with the full bracket!!! uh well almost... y'see... I kinda lost the file I had been using to make the image, and given how late it is, I'd rather get these up and post a later bracket than make you wait even more so... TEXT ONLY VERSION HERE IT IS!
Oh also, the division titles might seem a bit more esoteric this year. There's a reason for them, and if you manage to figure it out, mad props to you. So then, without further ado, here's the bracket, with the respective autoqualifiers in bold! Wright Division1) Terezi Pyrope 16) Play-in between Pyralspite and Jailbreak Horse 8) Joey Claire 9) Spades Slick 4) Dirk Strider 13) Casey 5) Meenah Peixes 12) Mallek Adalov 2) Roxy Lalonde 15) Apple 7) Crowbar 10) Kurloz Makara 3) Kanaya Maryam 14) Sweet Bro 6) Marvus Xoloto 11) Death Fate Division1) Dave Strider 16) Play-in between Bard from Bardquest and Echidna 8) Davepetasprite 9) Dave's Bro 4) Equius Zahhak 13) Karako Pierot 5) MSPA Reader 12) Porrim Maryam 2) Rose Lalonde 15) Crabdad 7) Dad Egbert 10) Daraya Jonjet 3) Nepeta Leijon 14) Play-in between Neophyte Redglare and Meulin Leijon 6) Doc Scratch 11) Xefros Tritoh Green Division1) Karkat Vantas 16) Lil' Cal 8) Chixie Roixmr 9) The Signless 4) Jack Noir 13) (Vriska) 5) Problem Sleuth 12) Tyzias Entykk 2) Wayward Vagabond 15) Ham from Inappropriate Time for Ham 7) Dirk's Autoresponder 10) Andrew Hussie 3) Caliborn 14) Play-in between Wanshi Adyata and Kankri Vantas 6) Jake English 11) Sollux Captor Know Division1) John Egbert 16) Davesprite 8) Clover 9) Ms Paint 4) Vriska Serket 13) The Ψiioniic 5) Polypa Goezee 12) Becquerel 2) Jade Harley 15) Ice Cream Man from And It Don't Stop 7) Damara Megido 10) The Dolorosa 3) Aradia Megido 14) Nervous Broad 6) Skylla Koriga 11) June Egbert This leaves our first four out as: Parcel Mistress, missing her first contest by less than 1/10 of a point (other people who has appeared in all seven earlier contests but not this one are The Condesce and Pickle Inspector) Konyyl Okimaw Nannasprite Tagora Gorjek
Now this is where I'd put the bracket image, but as stated I don't have that yet.edit: see i did it What I do have, however, is the link for you to go and vote for the play-in games!

Neophyte Redglare Between Pyralspite and the horse from Jailbreak, the winner with 62% of the vote was... It has come to my attention that I had messed up one of the matches (I wrote down the loser of the first round rather than the winner) so here is the correct match between Roxy and Crowbar. I had to toss all the votes from the previous one, so make sure you vote in this one as well.

Two rounds in, and we're heading to the silly naming section. Which half will make it into the Saccharine Sixteen and which half will be sitting out? You know the drill; watch me pontificate or just skip to the link at the bottom if you're too busy.
WRIGHT DIVISION Terezi Pyrope beats Spades Slick with 70.91% of the vote Dirk Strider beats Meenah Peixes with 67.62% of the vote Roxy Lalonde beats Crowbar with 81.82% of the vote Kanaya Maryam beats Death with 78.18% of the vote FATE DIVISION Dave Strider beats Davepetasprite with 74.55% of the vote Equius Zahhak beats MSPA Reader with 56.36% of the vote Rose Lalonde beats Dad Egbert with 76.36% of the vote Nepeta Leijon beats Doc Scratch with 63.64% of the vote GREEN DIVISION Karkat Vantas beats The Signless with 89.09% of the vote Problem Sleuth upsets Jack Noir with 50.91% of the vote Wayward Vagabond beats Andrew Hussie with 75.93% of the vote Caliborn beats Sollux Captor with 53.70% of the vote KNOW DIVISION John Egbert beats Ms Paint with 85.45% of the vote Vriska Serket beats Becquerel with 50.91% of the vote Jade Harley beats Damara Megido with 87.27% of the vote Aradia Megido beats June Egbert with 81.82% of the vote
Three rounds down, and four more to go. And yes, this time I did make sure to check that the names were actually the winners, so hopefully no repeat of last time. Voting in the Saccharine Sixteen is now open!

Hey good news, I didn't have to wait two hours for a vote to become untied like I did last year! though if i had waited that might have become necessary given how close one of these was. With just four days to go until Homestuck Day, it's time to reduce our field down to the two finalists. Will Terezi be able to defend her title? Will Dave get revenge for last year's finals defeat? Will Karkat make it back to the finals for the first time since he won the very first MSPA Madness? Will John make his first finals ever??? Well, two of those are going to happen for sure, and now it's time to see which one it is. Between Karkat Vantas and John Egbert, the winner is...
With 53.66% of the vote... JOHN EGBERT
Between Terezi Pyrope and Dave Strider, the winner is...
With 50.62% of the vote... (yes, that is by a single vote) DAVE STRIDER Now, I mean you could just go and VOTE right now, but I want to say something first, just because it's the finals and there's some additional stuff here that wasn't in the prior rounds. After choosing between our finalists, there's an additional question at the end. If you just want make that vote and do nothing else, go on ahead and choose submit at the end. The other three options link to different optional sets of questions. Each one links to the next so pick the earliest one and just skip anything you don't want to answer, even in a round. - Demographics: This is the same questions as in the qualifying round; if you filled them out then or don't want to fill them out, feel free to skip them. Finishing this page sends you to...
- Contest Feedback: What did you like about this contest? What did you dislike? These and more about the running of the contest itself are in this section. I actually have some specific questions this year which might change the 2021 event, so if you want to give some feedback, now's the time to do so. Finishing this page sends you to...
- Additional Voting: This is where you can vote for third and fifth place finishes. Or the silly consolation awards, because what's more important: Winning this contest or winning Most Pathetic Victory? Honestly that last one is where the best stuff lies. So get your sillies out here and finish the voting.
Okay, and with all that said, I guess it's here.

Well, the votes are closed and as is tradition for me I haven't looked at who won because I want to be just as surprised as you are. So then first things first is all of the fun additional voting! Because why would I start with the winner when I could lead up to that in unnecessarily over-complicated build-up???
MOST SURPRISING UPSET Five different ones got a single vote here: Dave over Terezi, Becquerel over Polypa, Spades Slick over Joey Claire, Death over Marvus, and Equius over MSPA Reader. However I'm going to choose it as Becquerel over Polypa because that was the biggest seed difference that was mentioned here HARDEST MATCH TO DECIDE Again, no repeat votes here: John vs Dave, Karkat vs WV, John vs Jade, Jade vs Aradia, WV vs Caliborn, and Nepeta vs Doc Scratch. My biased pick of the bunch is gonna go to Nepeta vs Doc Scratch because everything else is really in one chain and this was the earliest match of the bunch. BIGGEST UNDERPERFORMANCE are we gonna get any duplicate for these awards? Xefros, Polypa, Dirk, (Vriska), and Ice Cream Man all got a single vote here. And I'm gonna toss it to Polypa Goezee because he was the only one on the receiving end of an upset. BIGGEST OVERPERFORMANCE Only three names here, again with just one vote. Equius, Vriska, and Caliborn. All of them actually went out in the round expected, so I'm gonna give it to Equius Zahhak because he set a new record for how far he went (yay first Saccharine Sixteen take this semi-derogatory award as a reward) BEST CHARACTER LEFT OUT Wow only two votes: Jude Harley and Hysterical Dame. Hysterical Dame finished in 114th place in the qualification, but she beats out Jude Harley who's getting my nod here because he didn't even get a vote during qualifying. CHARACTER MOST SCREWED BY BRACKETAnd in a surprise to nobody everyone named has one vote here. Terezi, Sweet Bro, Skylla, Ice Cream Man, and Dave's Bro. My nod is gonna end up going to Dave's Bro namely because he had a difficult match up against Davepetasprite and then immediately would have had to go on against Dave had he won. Nobody else really would be in two straight really hard matches except Skylla, and until someone from Hiveswap Friendsim wins a match I don't think that's really worth it. and then by far the best part of this entire thing, the COMPLETELY ARBITRARY CONSOLATION AWARDS!!!Everything here is pretty much what was on the form; text in italics is my commentary where desired. Not everything is on because I just picked the ones that made me laugh. Most heartbreaking betrayal in Paradox Space: Karkat Vantas over Wayward Vagabond Somewhat Canon award: Kanaya Maryam over Death (because vampire) i mean yeah...not an award but stan tavros I don't know who you are, but you are incredibly validWe have a pair of similar awards for people giving places that aren't actually places to give with Runner Up: Rose Lalonde and First Place MSPA Madness 2021: Caliborn. t-that's not how these work but I admire your forwardness.Best Non-Homestuck Character: Ice Cream Man I am always a fan of Non-Homestuck stuff making it in this tournament. If you haven't read And It Don't Stop, it's short and well worth your time.AND LAST AND MOST CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, MY FAVORITE FROM THIS IF ONLY FOR HOW OVERLY SPECIFIC IT IS:Most disgusting elimination of the Bard from Bard Quest: Echidna
Okay, now it's time. Our eight characters are now being ranked from 8th up to 1st. AND THE FINAL PLACEMENT FOR MSPA MADNESS 2020 IS...t7) Jade Harley - 21.43% t7) Rose Lalonde - 21.43%6) Roxy Lalonde - 25.00%5) Wayward Vagabond - 32.14%4) Terezi Pyrope - 42.86%3) Karkat Vantas- 57.14%And your winner of the 2020 MSPA Madness is... 2) Dave Strider - 48.98% 1) John Egbert - 51.02% JOHN WINS BY A SINGLE VOTE!!!
