Look at this video first, it was posted on Andrew Hussie’s twitter on 20/12. You with me? Okay, good. Now... Let me just react under the cut. WHAT??? WHAT IN TARNATION??? The next MS Paint Adventures story?? Or, well, I should say, What Pumpkin story, I guess? First thoughts are: wow, this feels like a step back animation wise, but if Hussie’s doing this project with a smaller crew, it’s too be expected + converting them to Youtube really did a number on Homestuck’s flash animations, too. What? Is this? Seems like it’s going to focus on a human-inhabited location? With a dreamscape that can be visited? Juggalos will apparently have a prominent role? As will the Four of Diamonds? I... Wow. Okay, firstly, I think the big, buggy eyed look on humans still looks weird, it reminds me too much of trolls. But if the whole adventure is in this style, I’ll get used to it. The gunslinger made me think of a Dersite, like SS or DD, but it’s probably a human too. ... That EMOJI in the mirror, dear god, good to give a guy the creeps. I I don’t think this was a troll video. Notice how it’s not anywhere near April, and that Hussie rebranded his Twitter account to boot. Consider my interest terribly piqued. Though I noticed I’ll have to adjust a bit to the return of the jpeg-ified cutouts of actual places & people, hahah. But hey, Clark Powell made the song for this video, so I’m glad he might be on the music team for this!

I started watching the video honestly thinking it was going to be some kind of joke. But then it took off and my jaw dropped open and my mind was blown. I honestly never thought I'd live to see the day that Hussie would finally start a new non-Homestuck adventure, let alone write and draw it all by himself again, and accompany it with at least one video (my instinct would still like to call it a flash animation but I guess that's not really the case anymore) with a new song from someone from the old Homestuck music team. That was what I was most impressed with. As for the actual content of it, well, let's start with the "plot". It was all so confusing and unexpected that I honestly don't really know what to think yet. But I'm also the kind of person who likes not to spoil himself with trailers too much, so I'm happy to remain confused for now and find out more about what the deal really is later. And then the art. I'm happy to see some of the good old MSPA/Homestuck elements returning, like the Hero Mode-esque drawings, real pictures as backgrounds. I kinda hope Sprite Mode also makes its return though, I always loved that. Finally, I like how despite being entirely unrelated to Homestuck (at least according to the Homestuck twitter, and most of the content of the trailer itself), there are still a few things in there that it has in common: - Playing cards, or at the very least the 4 of Diamonds, seem to play a significant role just like how the Midnight Crew (and their alternate versions) were based on the suits of playing cards. - Juggalos. 'nuff said. - A Karkat drawing on the wall =D Judging from the Karkat drawing, I'm wondering if perhaps Homestuck will be a work of fiction in this new universe that one of the main characters is a fan of, or something. And who knows, maybe somehow some kind of character from Homestuck is re-used in this new story, just like how the Midnight Crew originated from Problem Sleuth related material. I doubt this new thing will ever have me as invested as Homestuck did, but I'm at the very least fascinated by the very idea of Andrew Hussie working on something new and I'm definitely interested to have a look after it's arrived.
