Death By Salt
Hey there. I hope I haven't bit off more than I can chew, signing up for a U4G when I have a job that takes up a lot of my time. I almost considered just dropping out, but I decided that I at least want to give it a shot.
So while I was looking forward to making some pixel art panels, I'll probably have to forego those in favor of a text adventure so I don't burn myself out, at least for now. Since I'm writing in the absence of images, the writing may be a bit more prose-y than the typical adventure style.

- Prologue -
The early morning haze over Levia City is just beginning to clear as the limo pulls up to the Slime Spa. Out of the back door slides a woman dressed in black and purple, holding a ring of keys. She turns around to speck to her driver.
Desiree: You can go park, Ben. I'll let you know in a few minutes whether this will take a while.
Desiree proceeds to the entrance with considerable poise for an octomaid. Having 8 tentacles instead of 2 legs typically isn't conducive to land-walking. She arrives to the sight of an anxious gnome pacing around the reception area, adjusting her hat. Desiree paused for a moment, waiting to catch her attention.
Maria: Oh, Desiree! You got here really fast.
Maria: Once again, I'm SO sorry for calling you so early for a minor thing.
Maria: I didn't figure you'd show up in person though! Back when the register jammed you just sent Ben.
Desiree: Well, I figured I would take the opportunity to visit Barry myself. It's been a while since I've had a proper spa day.
Maria: Oh, of course! We can get you in as soon as-
Desiree: But first I would like to know how you managed to lock yourself out of the spa room.
Maria: Well that's the thing. We never lock it in the first place! Front door's enough. And if we did lock it, I wouldn't know anyway. Barry always gets in before me. And other than you, I think he's the only one with a key.
Maria: In fact I'm getting kinda worried that he hasn't shown up yet.
Desiree: We can worry about that when we hear from him. For now let's open the room and get the tub set up so he can slide right in when he gets here.
Desiree totters over to the door, and starts fiddling with the keyring.
Maria: Hmmm. Now that I know YOU come here, why have I never seen your mother around? I know she doesn't like crowds, but as the big "Ms. Remy", she could easily reserve a day to herself, especially since she owns the whole chain.
Desiree: It's not so much *crowds* as people in general. She's a bit of a recluse to begin with, and it doesn't help that pureblood krakenoids can be dangerous even by accident.
Maria: Ahh. Are you talking about the whole "eldritch wail" thing.
Desiree: Sort of, among a few other things.
Maria: So wait. As a half-krakenoid, can YOU do that?
Desiree finds the correct key and begins to open the lock.
Desiree: To an extent, when I'm startled. It's not quite as potent though.
The door opens.
Desiree: Besides, it would take a lot to make me scream like-
Desiree:
Strewn about the floor are shriveled bits of dead slime, as well as copious amounts... Of salt.
> Later
Desiree: Any developments, officer?
Seth: Nothing besides the obvious, I'm afraid.
Seth: We'll run it by the lab, but there's no reason to believe the isn't Barry. Most likely ALL of Barry, given the quantity.
Seth: But the fact that he's been mashed to pieces means there was a struggle.
Seth: Hopefully our detective can tell you the rest.
Desiree: So when will the detective arrive?
Seth: Any minute now, if you want to wait outside.
Desiree: Very well. Who should I look for?
Create our detective!
I don't really have a template, but I'll probably need some basics like name, species (since this is a world of monsters and fantasy races), gender, overall appearance, and attitude.
