So, welcome to Paper Snow! This original forum adventure is about a young arctic fox named Flurry that finds herself somehow not in the arctic anymore, and wants to find her way home. She will, eventually, find her home. mspfanventures.com/?s=16678&p=1There's the link to the mirror, where the comic will be updated first. Feel free to toss commands at me- I do have a general idea of where this comic will go, though- it's going to be pretty long, aha. Updates will be when I get the time, and there may be art style changes between them. This project is something I've been preparing to actually start for six years, though, so the story will always exist, it's pretty safe to say. There are extras at my sketchclub account (http://app.sketchclub.com/user/10109043) and my tumblr (http://ceratocampi-moving.tumblr.com/tagged/paper-snow for old art and ceratocampinae for new). Some of them may be from previous incarnations of the story, so even though it may seem like spoilers, it may not actually be included in this version! Some characters, for example, were removed from the 1.0 version and some were added, some have had their personality altered a little bit, some had their species changed, there's a lot of different possibilities. So, almost no worries about spoilers, there. FAQ;na, will add when there are questions! Feel free to post even if you don't have a command, or just want to comment on the comic! :>>> Thanks! Updates will be posted in new posts and the title will be updated to reflect that another update was posted. :>

You wake up. There is darkness all around you, the smell of something disgustingly sweet and rotting permeated into the air around you. But as far as you can tell, whatever caused that smell is no longer here. There are many loud noises outside, things that sound like the wind you knew on the arctic tundra, but they don't seem right to you.

--->This does not feel like home. Last you remember, you were arguing with your parents- Thundersnow wanted you to be more respectful towards him and Avalanche- who had been merely sitting nearby. She had been watching. Just watching. She never said a word against Thunder, but then again, who wanted to. Maybe it had something to do with the scent of berries on her breath, although nobody could quite prove for certain. Graupel had been out, having run away crying. You wanted to do something for her- it was never her fault, what your parents decided to do, and your sister did not deserve any of the misgendering or harm that Thunder and Ava decided to toss her way. Maybe your parents had done some good things, had been on some amazing adventures, but if this was how they had ended up then you didn't really want to know more about their youth. Either way, you certainly hadn't been here the last time you had blinked, and you weren't quite sure why you were sleeping, either. Did... Did you just forget? Or was it something else?

>Poke around the place. Where are you? You aren't quite sure if you want to stand up just yet. But this is a really new place, and if you don't know your surroundings, then you don't know... Yourself? You aren't sure where that metaphor was going, it just sounded smart. The first thing that grabs your eyes is a bright light coming from outside whatever this box-like container is. Maybe if it were a bit less bright, you'd be able to see what's outside- but your eyes have adjusted to the darkness, and really, staring at this narrow slit just hurts your eyes. It doesn't seem like this weird box is moving. But you almost find yourself wishing it was; this stench isn't something that you'll likely get used to anytime soon. There's some weird liquid in the corner- probably where the smell is coming from, so you don't really want to go near it. The walls seem... Well, not pliable, but they move a bit if you knock them. Some scratches from who knows what are in some places, nothing really stands out to you. Really, there seems to be nothing too useful or of interest here. Drat. Except all of a sudden there's the slit, getting bigger and now it's too bright to see. You jump up, squinting up at whatever it is that's opening the top and showing off your fiercest snarl- although it probably looks more like you're about to sneeze, because you're really bothered by that bright light, and the sounds from outside the weird green box thing that have suddenly gotten much louder. But you're mostly freaking out. OH GOOD STELLAR F*CK THERE'S SOMETHING BEING THROWN INTO THIS BOX OF DOOM AND DESPAIR, TIME TO FREEZE AND HOPE WHATEVER IT IS DOESN'T CRUSH YOUR FACE AND- It's utterly harmless. Just a weird brown paper thing. Really, you shouldn't have been scared at all. WHY DO YOUR SURROUNDINGS HATE YOU. WHY DO THEY CAUSE YOU SUCH STRESS. >Insert Command

Today has been a really stressful day for you. Suddenly being transported to some strange area, having a weird paper thing thrown on you, having someone slam the thing you're in like it's a lemming under a bunch of ice. So when this idea pops up, you find yourself complying, if only to get rid of stress. The person that tossed that cardboard into a dumpster that wasn't even theirs (for shame) hears the devil shrieking coming from your mouth. And, believing it to be the dieties of global warming that they had so pleasantly just ticked off, they sprinted directly into oncoming traffic in panic and nearly got hit. They didn't, though. Nobody's been hit by a car yet. >Attack the piece of cardboard to relieve stress Yeah. This helps. But only for a little bit. Now you're stuck in a weird box that seems to be heating up a little bit (not that you would have called it cold to begin with), with no way out and a bunch of torn cardboard. Well, half of a torn cardboard piece. Eugh. So you decide to be someone else for a little bit. >Be another nearby individual. You are now this individual walking past a parking lot with a dumpster that seems to be snarling. Yeah. You don't want to go over there. If something ends up happening (which it probably will), you'll end up late to work. And you haven't been late to work ONCE since you started. No reason to soil a perfect record for some weird snarling dumpster. >Insert Command

> Tell somebody you hate about the "MAGIC WISH GRANTING SNARLING BOX" Yeah, no. As much as you hate Chad from accounting, you wouldn't leave him alone to deal with a demon. Which is what 'magic wish granting snarling box' falls under. Demons are people who went through life like it was a game. There's some other requirements to becoming one, dying doing a crime you think, and you don't remember the third. But they have these weird, specific powers and can do... Mostly anything with a deal. They try to be remembered like its some high score, you know that much. It's why Spain is double the size it used to be and there's three copies of Jerusalem. The demons that come up with ideas on their own though, instead of searching out power hungry people, are the ones you have to watch out for. They're kind of... ...Vicious. But that's enough about demons. And pretty much all you know about them. It was a boring subject in school, and you didn't want to research it too much in case everybody thought you would try to summon one. >Maybe it is a raccoon being trapped in the magic wish granting snarling box? Those guys are pretty cute, maybe you should help after all. ...Yeah, okay. You should help. >Go dumpster diving. Treasures await! You feel like you're going to resent this. You open the dumpster and try to get a better view into it, unfortunately having to stick your hand in a bit to do so. That is a fox. Oh wow. But it looks small for a fox, maybe a dog? Or maybe it's a kit. Yeah, you should have called a professional. What're you supposed to do? Just let it stay in the dumpster?? But you can't try to get it out, that's preeetty dangerous. And you would definitely be late to work then. This is such a dilemma. HOLY SHIT THERE IT GOES. JUMPING. AT YOU. YOU KNEW THIS WAS HOW YOU WOULD DIE, MAULED IN THE FACE BY A WILD ANIMAL OF UNKNOWN SPECIES. THIS IS IT. >Be Flurry once again. YOU HAVE ESCAPED THE HORRIDLY HOT AND STINKY BOX. But you don't know what to do now. What are these giant square rocks? This weird thing you're standing on? What way are you supposed to go? Why does it smell so bad??? >Enter command.

[warning for blood and injuries in this update, will be resolved by the next one] [here is a summary of this update, the summary details this entire update and spoilers end at the quote. Flurry is hit by a car. She is confused, views the human who freed her as a threat, and flees blindly, moving away from the city. She collapses while looking up at a red fox who looks very concerned for her wellbeing.] > follow the grey brick road As much as you would like to follow the other commands, there is a very specific reason why you cannot. You don't know where you are anymore. Your chest hurts, your head hurts, your leg hurts, everything hurts and you aren't sure you've ever been in this much pain ever before. There was that one time you broke your leg when you were younger, exploring a cavern with your sister (you miss your sister so so much and you have to find her, find her, that's what you have to do next right? Or are you forgetting something-) but that pain is nothing like the pain you feel right now. In fact, this pain is so intense you would say you had walked into a nest of bumblebees and stood there for minutes, being stung, and it would hurt less, but you had never experienced bees. Big, black flies the size of the moon when you looked up were more your speed, and sure, those bit- but nothing near the pain in your chest, your leg, your head, again. It is at this point you notice something standing over you. Fear is dumped on you, your legs pulled out in the undertow, logic scrabbling for the lifesaver. This time, unfortunately, you are drowned in your instincts. Staring up at the creature who rescued you, you do not recognize them (you only knew them for a minute, and even then, why would you interact with a human? You are an arctic fox, a wild one, trapped and freed and now in pain). Instead, you snarl weakly, chest rattling like it was at the bottom of the ocean. It hurts to do that, so you stop and only bare your fangs, tension clear on your face. You stay there for another few seconds before bolting, fear and self preservation pushing you down the long grey road as you focus only on the yellow marks in front of you. They slither to a stop, and with them, your fear collapses. Now on this oddly warm ground, you labor to breathe, each breath a water bucket drawn from the river, brought upstream, and dumped, a never-ending cycle. If you pull too far, a knife digs into your lungs. You feel like you're being cooked alive, but red blinds you from that. In your last waking moments, you see a red fox standing over you, expression drawn and eyes concerned, or afraid? You can't tell. Their voice is a hummingbird as you close your eyes. >Commands suspended, update is 1 of 2 parts. If the video doesn't work, lmk and I'll see if I can fix it or try a different route.

You wake up. Sitting there on your new... Bed? You realize that your wounds have been cleaned and that your leg is no longer hurting as much as it was. The scrape is still there, but from what you can tell, there's no lasting damage besides that. It had felt completely broken last time you were awake, though, so this is odd. You don't know what the stuff is that you're sitting on, but it's yellow and slightly hard, and makes a crunchy sound when you move around. The strands break easily when you try to bend them, and you have a feeling this is probably really dry for whatever thing it is. Looking towards the entrance to the cave (you know what that is), you are greeted by the second most beautiful sight you have ever seen. There's green everywhere, and tall bushes and, mushrooms maybe? You don't know what those tall brown things are but wow are they a thing that exists. The sunlight dapples the ground in a way that makes you think you're going to need to shield your eyes, but the ground doesn't reflect the light like the snow. This is amazing. But you have to wonder where the rest of this den is; it can't be just one cave, right? Spending a bit more time looking towards the entrance, you see a pile of stuff next to it on the left side. You aren't sure what's in it- you would have to get a closer look. Too late for that right now, though. Someone's there, holding something that looks suspiciously like two voles fused together in the same way catdog was, not that you know what that is. The stranger brightens up upon seeing you, pausing at the entrance to the cave as if waiting for you to say they can come in. This is their home, right? Why do they need your permission? That seems odd. >Sniff the animal who let you out You think for a second, remembering that person who let you out. Who were they? Had they intended to do that? Were they the one to hit yu with that fast-moving thing that left you injured? They had been the first thing you noticed right after you were hit... The plot thickens. You scrunch your nose up in concentration. Flurry: Hey so are you the fox who saved me?Stranger: Yeah! Flurry: Huh. Thanks.Stranger: Oh, no problem! I like helping others. And you seemed in a really bad way if you get my drift. Stranger: Anyways, I thought you might be hungry when you woke up. So, I went and got a squirrel for you! Flurry: A... Squirrel?Stranger: Yeah, a squirrel! Haven't you had one of those before? Stranger: Although you do look pretty..... Stranger: I was going to say pretty new in town, uh. Sorry. We don't get many newcomers around here? Because we're right next to the city and all. Stranger: ..... Stranger: Are you okay? You seem a bit shaken. This is a lot. You're a bit overwhelmed. Not to mention, you still need to loop the conversation back around to ask about the person. This is a mess. And your head still hurts. >Enter Command (split into two posts bc I kept losing all the pictures when it was in one & for ease of viewing for ppl who need the blood warning) (I just found out about Photobucket's image thing, I'm switching to cubeupload for now, if any of the older images become unviewable please let me know!) (added more content as of 11:32 am tuesday est because I was able to but haven't recieved prompts yet, will likely be using the older prompts I wasn't able to use and incorporating them as reminders of what happened so Flurry can start a conversation with the stranger.)
