Why did the beta kids need to do the Scratch? I thought it was because their Skaia was barren/had the Tumor in the middle, but in the end they incubated the frog in it anyway. What did the alpha kids' session actually contribute? In order to create their Universe, the kids had to toss their Frog and a magic ring into the volcano before the Reckoning. The only rings to use for that were either on earth or in Jack's possession. Theoretically, Jade could've maybe taken the ring off Jack, tossed it and the Frog in the volcano and won the game, but it's unclear whether she knew she needed to do that, and she was killed and Jack absconded before she might've been able to try. The biggest benefit of the Alpha session was it provided a Skaia to stick the battlefield in that wouldn't be buffeted by meteors, because the Alpha session was a Void session, which meant no Reckoning.

What did the alpha kids' session actually contribute? They scratched because they couldn't win with Bec Noir's presence. All they knew was that scratching would cause Bec Noir to flee from their session and would give them a second chance.

What did the alpha kids' session actually contribute? They weren't ready. Bec Noir would have destroyed the frog if they tried to incubate it, and if they did nothing with the bomb, it probably would have obliterated their session regardless. They also hadn't built up their houses or released their grist hoards, and didn't seem like they understood how to do this either. The team was also kind of falling apart. Really, the machinations that put the scratch into place are also largely responsible for them surviving at all, Rose and Dave in particular. But the B2 session wouldn't be capable of producing a session of its own either. This is why the B1 session, in a unique move, needed to be ported over and merged to create one viable session.

You guys are bringing up jack as the reason to do the scratch, but A. If the plan to blow up the green sun worked as they expected it to, this would not have been a problem as Jack would be defeatable and the tumor would be disposed of. And B. Jack escaping into the Troll's session had nothing to do with the scratch. Theoretically, there was nothing stopping them from carrying out the green sun plan and completing the game without the scratch.

It kinda did have something to do with it though, the only reason Jack jumped ship from the session was because he didn't want to get wiped from existence during the Scratch.

Wait, Homestuck has 6 acts? How do you get past the Intermission? This page has been sending me in circles for years.

"A whole bunch of shit that we already saw" loops backwards in the comic. "PSS: Be Future Spades Slick." links forwards.

So what happened to Hussie's formspring? Did he just give up on fandom interaction?

So what happened to Hussie's formspring? Did he just give up on fandom interaction? He gave up on the formspring in late 2011. Though he still answered questions and interacted with the fandom through tumblr for, I want to say a year or more after that? Since then it's been pretty much nothing but silence though, yeah, and recently he pretty much deleted everything everywhere (his tumblr, twitter, etc.). I have a question of my own, anyway. So I know Arisen Anew includes a line from Doctor Who, but it also has some sort of vocals throughout the rest of the song. It strikes me that in the five years since it came out I never once have given any thought to it. What is that? Kinda sounds like vocaloid...

I think the MLP opening motif is in it too, but I am unsure.

Thank you! I wonder why it has these references. The doctor who one I can understand (duh!!) but I don't understand the vocaloid or MLP.

Damara is most definitely Asian (or as Asian as an alien can be) but Aradia I'm not sure.

Is it stated somewhere in the comic that Lord English's powers come from the Green Sun? It seems to be taken as fact in a lot of explanations about why Calliope had to destroy it, but all I ever saw him use/talk about/absorb was Clockwork Majyyks.

He hatched from Doc Scratch, who was a First Guardian. Additionally, in Intermission 2, we can see him teleport his Cairo Overcoat to himself with the green flash of First Guardian powers. But other than that, we've never actually seen them be used for anything. The only other indication in the whole story, as far as I recall, is in Act 7 when some minor green-flame effects around him disappear as the Green Sun is taken out. So yes, he did have Green Sun powers, but they seemed to mean nothing to him on top of his oodles of other sources of unfathomable power.

While the Green Sun powers were indeed among the least utilized parts of LE's personal arsenal, the significance of Calliope destroying it and turning it into a black hole lies more in how it is used as a "pocket" to LE's billiards ball(s), using the ring around the Green Sun that LE inadvertently created/destroyed in Paradox Space as the "bed" or playing field. Green Sun powers were also as obsidalicious said, used by LE's minions like Doc Scratch to create the requisites for his arrival in at least one universe. And if it means anything, Calliope DID confirm to Jade that her combination of Green sun powers and Space aspect powers are indeed "the best powers".

Well, that's just a theory, not a definitive answer.
