Every hero can remember how their adventures started. It was that defining moment in their life that set them on their path, Perhaps a raider attacked their village, sparking them to avenge their fallen neighbors. A lover maybe, a quest to prove their love and marry their soulmate, maybe even rescue them.
Heroes are admirable. Brave. Noble. What began their adventure is just as important as how their adventure ends, it's what drives them, motivates them, it keeps them going when things seem impossible.
You have no idea how your adventure began. You have no memory of that defining moment that sent you off into the world.
You have no memory of anything but waking up bloodied, sore, and on the ground. Completely and utterly afraid of nothing and everything.

>> okay hero boy, you won’t get anywhere laying down. Time to get up Right. Right. Laying on the ground forever equals bad. It's cold, it's dirty, and currently wet because of all this blood, making it sticky. Sit up--sit up! You can figure out the rest once you're not on your back anymore.
Oh...Oh.
You look at your hands and feel, along with an intense rush of nausea, your heart lodging itself in your throat while it beats rapidly. Your pulse quickens and your head feels light at the sight. It's so much... still uncomfortably warm.
Your hands are shaking and vision darkens as you stare at it, scared. There's a small ding ringing in the back of your head, almost drowned out by the sound of your own heart.

You reach within yourself and are able to bring out the information.
The status results are unsurprising. A bit dissapointing that you don't even have a name to look for. Hemophobic seems to be the new addition to the status, which sounds about right.

Bandages would seem useful right now. ...Except that you are at full HP. So is that even your blood? Are you even injured?

Bandages would seem useful right now. ...Except that you are at full HP. So is that even your blood? Are you even injured? Oh. Oh....
Even though you're covered in A LOT of blood, and in a lot of pain, it's not the 'Someone cut you open and you need a doctor STAT' kind of pain, but more of the 'Walking Bruise' kind. Your injuries are, at best, superficial, not nearly bad enough to have produced this much blood.
Where did the blood come from? It has to be someone elses, right? No, no, no, no! Did you kill someone? Are you a serial killer?
THERE COULD BE A DEAD BODY RIGHT NEXT TO YOU.
Even though you can't see if there is or is not a corpse beside you in this darkness, the thought alone is leaving your knees buckling and stomach churning.

That's a good idea, a smart idea. Not one you entirely want to follow, but, the idea of the unknown, coupled with this crippling darkness, scares you far more than possibly seeing a corpse. So... yeah. You're going to listen to the voices in your head again. So far they hadn't led you astray, not that there's been much time since waking up to do so. Who knows, maybe the reason you're here with no memory is because these voices led you astray. You take out the box of matches and light one. Much better! You can see your immediate vincinity clearly, and, though more difficult, can see a bit farther aways now. A big improvement from only being able to see yourself and what was directly beside you. No body, but, that's... that's quite a bit of blood.

Looks a bit like a forest. Forest + Blood could mean hungry wild animals turning up. Time to look around. Wild animals... Wild animals are scary. They're big, aggressive. Carry so many diseases like rabies, but they're also savage and can tear flesh and bones apart with their teeth and claws alone. The scent of blood is sure to attract them, you're basically a walking buffet for them. You need to get moving, before wolves and bears and lions show up looking for food!

You don't waste any time to just take off through the woods. No matter where you look, you're finding blood and the sound of branches creaking from wind and animals. But no wolves howling or lions growling. Small blessings. You're doing your best not to look at the blood too much, though, afraid you might throw up if you stare too long.

Lots to look at. Is that a sword? You should take the sword. It is indeed a sword. A broken sword at that. There's only a hands length of actual steel potruding from the wood and leather hilt and guard. It looks as though it must have broken recently if you're to judge from the still fresh blood.
Still, it's better than what you had.

There’s a sign on one of the trees right? Maybe give it a read.
You look at the sign and squint at the chicken scratch writing made in ink. It doesn't feel right, but the writing somehow feels...familiar?
It says "STAY OUT"
That's...ah... not the most welcoming of signs
But the howl echoing in the air has got you thinking that taking it's advice wouldn't be such a bad idea?

I guess it is time to stay out then.
You don't hesitate in getting your feet moving, walking further among the trees and (Hopefully) closer to leaving this forest. With any luck, once you're out you'll find someplace safe and comfy.
You wish you had some kind of portable clock to tell you how long you had been walking before arriving at a fork in the road.

Acting on impulse, you choose right. Right is always right, right? Well, not that either path could be any worse, you'll get out of this forest eventually so long as you keep moving.
Right?
Just got to keep moving.
Keep moving.
You can feel thousands of eyes staring at you, their gazes sending needles digging into your skin, driving deep past the dermis and to your very bones. You can't see anyone, but you can feel their gazes, their judgement, their animosity.
You got to keep moving.
Keep...Moving...

Your matches won't last forever. Pick up some kindling or dry sticks to maybe make a torch. If necessary, use part of your scarf.

Your matches won't last forever. Pick up some kindling or dry sticks to maybe make a torch. If necessary, use part of your scarf. The disembodied voice in your head is right, the matches won't last. And they certainly don't provide a lot of light. You're going to have to do something or you'll run out of light. Branches are good, but... your scarf would burn easiest, you imagine. But, the idea of burning your scarf...doesn't...sit right with you. It sends your insides into turmoil. Just thinking about it, you can feel your anxiety worsening, bubbling up like boiling tar. Still......Scarf or Darkness. The choice is obvious. As soon as you take hold of the scarf, ready to pull it off and use it as kindling-- you're struck with a sudden, agonizing pain in the head. As though a chisel has been placed to your temple and is being struck on the other end with a hammer. It's a constant throbbing, chipping away at-- At something.Your vision swims in black, for a second, for an eon. You can't breathe, an icy grip has taken hold of your throat, your lungs, your heart. You see the moon and stars.
You see complete darkness boxing you in. You see someone towering over you, the scarf slung across their outstretched hands, as though in offering. [?]: ********** [?]: **********************
They're speaking, you know they are, but there's no sound, no voice. The words lost, muted.[?]: **********? [?]: ****************?
Their expression has shifted, your heart siezes up, somethings wrong
somethings wrong, somethings wrong, something's wrong, something's wrong---
You snap back to reality.No. You think you're going to keep the scarf on. Especially if taking it off sends you into... whatever THAT was.A memory? An anxiety-induced nightmare? You don't know. You don't think you want to know. You opt instead to grab a stick.[[Sticks Have Been Added to Inventory]]

The scarf must have some value to you then. Probably better not to damage it. Try and light some of the sticks and make a torch.
How many matches do you have left?

How many matches do you have left? It looks like you burned through far more matches than you had initially thought. You've only fifteen matches left, roughly fifteen minutes left of travel using them. You don't know if you'd be able to get out of this forest in fifteen minutes, and the idea of being stuck in darkness in here is, well, scary.
The scarf must have some value to you then. Probably better not to damage it. Try and light some of the sticks and make a torch. Taking one of the sticks you had collected, you light it on fire with the match you had been using. Immediately you feel not just the warmth of the fire against the chill of the night, but you feel the comfort of increased light.
You can see farther ahead of you, though it's still nothing but trees and darkness. Not the most promising, but, hey, at least you can see.
That's an improvement, right?
And there's howling coming from ahead, too.
Great.
