Another year, another little highly important (not) contest for me to run. So sit back, enjoy a slice of pie, and let's get on to the main event that you're here for, assuming I haven't shoved this link into your face to get you to vote. Which I essentially am already doing so there. [VOTE IN THE QUALIFYING ROUND OF MSPA MADNESS 2021 TODAY!]
Welcome once again, to the ninth annual MSPA Madness tournament, where you get to vote for who the "best" [citation needed] character from all of Andrew Hussie's works: From Homestuck to Jailbreak, from Friendsim to Inappropriate Time for Ham, from Homestuck^2 to Zoosmells. With how many different characters there have been, trying to do a tournament with all of them, even if it was single elimination, would probably take years. Okay maybe only months. But it sure wouldn't finish in time for April 13th which, yes, this is slated to end there like usual. As such, you get to participate in the qualifying voting, ranking your top characters to get into the tournament proper. But what if your favorite character is from some little minor thing, like Wizardy Herbert? How will they ever get the popularity to appear over the likes of literally anyone from Homestuck? Well, every group of characters will get at least one character in them, assuming there's a vote for them. So long as you put them on your favorites, they (or a character from the same thing as them) will be there at least. Prior FAQ: Q: Do I have to fill up all 64 slots?A: Nope! You can do as many or as few as you want. If you like a character, vote for them; if you don't, leave them off. No really, last year, there was someone who put in a protest vote for a character at 64th, and they qualified because of that vote. Q: Are these two characters the same person?A: Right off the top of my head, if it's akin to The Condesce and Meenah or Mom Lalonde and Roxy, they are surely separate. If you still aren't sure, just put them both down anyways. As long as it's not intentional duplication (like a response I had before that answered literally every question with Jane Crocker), I'll overlook it. And it's the same name as last year because we didn't have this happen!!! or we did and i had already deleted the vote and forgot who it was, probably the latter but let's be optimistic Q: What should I put for this character's name?A: Since I record the votes manually, it doesn't matter what name you put down, as long as I can figure out what character it is. So if it's from something obscure, feel free to put a note saying where. I might not recall that Stelth is from And It Don't Stop. Q: Wait, And It Don't Stop? You mean I can literally pick anything from Hussie and throw it in here?A: Correct! If he had a part in making it, anything from it is eligible to be voted for. Q: Where can I find some of the old comics?A: Unfortunately, the website containing Hussie's old works was taken down. I normally have an Internet Archive link here, but that seems to not be working either. When in doubt, Google is always a friend. It'll probably be modified a little more for next year, but I do hope this will make the bracket as a whole seem more competitive. Anyway, without further ado, here's this year's competitors.

In fact, they didn't even make the first twenty out. That would be... our "defending" champion John Egbert. So once again, we will not have a back-to-back champion.

Well, we've reached the halfway point of the full rounds. The winners here are all going to get full placings, going from eighth to first. The losers? They just get eliminated this round. And so, without further ado, here's who made it on.

And so, the four have been whittled down to just two left. On the 13th, the latest winner will be crowned. But will Roxy get her fourth title? Will Jade or Terezi take their second? Will Dave take his first unshared and second overall? Well, for two of them, the votes stop their hopes here. For the other two, you'll just have to pick the winner.

Well, it's Homestuck day. And after spending the last six or so hours waiting for the votes to not be an even number, here we are. So there's a chance that Dave and Roxy have tied again. But who knows what will actually happen? Not me, because I skipped over the vote to get to the juicy stuff: The random other awards.
MOST SURPRISING UPSET We had people being sad about Clubs Deuce not making it in and Nepeta losing, but there were two named matches, Kanaya over Wayward Vagabond and Eggs over Sonhearst... which both were 2 seeds winning over a 3 and 15 seed respectively ie not upsets.

CONGRATS I'm upset Nepeta didn't win because me too HARDEST MATCH TO DECIDE No repeats again, but we do have a grouping: Aradia vs Dave, Roxy vs Dirk, and of course the finals of Roxy vs Dave. We also had Problem Sleuth vs Sweet Bro from the first round, and... WAIT A SECOND ROXY VS DIRK WASN'T A MATCH UP. Anyway, and Terezi vs Jade which technically is a match up, if only third place. So having to pick from the ones that actually happened, congrats to Problem Sleuth vs Sweet Bro for showing that hard matches need not happen late... even if it only beat out Dave vs Aradia by one round. BIGGEST UNDERPERFORMANCE So, we've got another group: Wayward Vagabond (3 seed out in Sacc 16), Nepeta (4 seed out in Sacc 16), Pickle Inspector (6 seed out in first round), and Charun (way out of qualifying). Oh, and also a "I don't read Homestuck just voting because my friends forced me to"; whoever you are, ur valib. Anyway, so I have to pick one of them because of course we didn't get a repeat and... wait... what's this??? NEPETA LEIJON received a second vote!!! so yea you officially were robbed there nepeta BIGGEST OVERPERFORMANCE So after that excitement of not having to pick, we're back to single votes, for Roxy, Dave, Kurloz, and Eridan. Oh, and a vote for anyone not from Homestuck which is both rude and entirely unhelpful. So, it could go to one of our finalists who have both won before and would be expected to be here, a character who didn't qualify, or... yeah... Congrats Kurloz! BEST CHARACTER LEFT OUT yeah no duh John won this in a runaway from winning the whole thing last year to not even seeing the first round CHARACTER MOST SCREWED BY BRACKET Single votes again, for Aradia, Tavros, and Jade. And since Jade is in third it's gonna be a troll. Tavros had to pull an upset to face off against Roxy, but Aradia just waltzed straight into Dave after one round so there you go. And last, but certainly far from least because this is totally more important than knowing who won, it's time for COMPLETELY ARBITRARY CONSOLATION AWARDS!!!Everything here is pretty much what was on the form; text in italics is my commentary where desired. Not everything is on because I just picked the ones that made me laugh.
