To start with, I am a newer reader who started HS back in the beginning of june. From there I had two friends guide me through the comic itself and it has grown on ll, me. Recently started act 6 act 2 and am currently having an over fondness of vriska and mayor. This has done much to my social life in general; for better or worse as far as I know, I don't care.
I know for a fact that I am WAY behind they hype train, hell I am way behind the story itself since it is ended from what I have been told. Though, I look forward to the experience that awaits me in the final four thousand pages left to look at. My main question though, will it be worth it?

Yes. Despite the complaints about the ending (from myself included), the experience I've had getting there has completely changed my life, for the better I think. Homestuck is unique. There really aren't any fictional works that compare to it that I know of. And there's still a lot of Vriska and the Mayor to come.

I love the Mayor but I just can't bring myself to actually like Vriska. She might have had a troubled past but she's such a bitch, + she killed poor little Tavros, too pure for this world.

No. If you weren't already past it I'd say stop at Cascade, everything past that just goes way downhill until you arrive at the horrid mess that is Act 6 Act 6.

So, the answer is basically... yes until you reach cascade, and past that it becomes a lot more subjective.

You've got the people who claim the Intermission is worth skipping, you've got people who claim everything before Hivebent is worth skipping, there's also people who claim Hivebent is worth skipping, you also have people who claim Openbound is worth skipping, and you've even got people who believe skipping pesterlogs and/or flashes is okay. IMO not a single part of this story should be skipped, but there's plenty of people who disagree with that but often they're not even talking about the same part of the story.
