It's been my experience over the years, that the forum is defined by the administrator. Omega Update didn't make itself, the adiministration made it.
The people who make a forum define it, the people who go to it merely give it purpose.
A forum without administration dies, and if you abandon Omega Update, you will merely add to the same problem carried by MSPA The end of a forum.
What I am trying to say is that you should not close the forum. The best part of a forum is that the administration keeps it up! I don't want to stray too far into your reasons for wanting to close Omega Update, as they could be quite personal but it just seems that "I will close the forums because MSPA comes back up" Doesn't seem like a reason, only a statement of your intentions.

I concur with your views regarding what makes a forum, but (and i guess i am speaking for the admin, in spite of not being admin) the idea is that once the new official forum is up, everyone will go to it!
That being said, I remember Blaperile mentioning that users still doing Forum Adventures that want to stay here will be allowed, but did not mention any sort of admin resources to stay behind to enforce "The Rules", though admittedly only one mod is probably needed to handle the unlikely random troll, and any kind of punishment meted out would be largely ineffective, since the rest of the forum would be inactive, unless there is some way to enforce penalties across forums.
If i have stepped out of line, strike me down, or at the very least, whap with newspaper.

These were temporary forums to begin with, so closing up wouldn't be anything too personal, I don't think That being said, I remember Blaperile mentioning that users still doing Forum Adventures that want to stay here will be allowed, but did not mention any sort of admin resources to stay behind to enforce "The Rules", though admittedly only one mod is probably needed to handle the unlikely random troll, and any kind of punishment meted out would be largely ineffective, since the rest of the forum would be inactive, unless there is some way to enforce penalties across forums. I figured I would stay behind and manage the Forum Adventures and Creative Works boards

My reason actually really IS because the MSPA Forums will be coming back. I just know that if I keep the Omegaupdate forums completely open (as in, every subforum), there would probably be a lot of people not going to the new forums but remaining over here. Meanwhile, some people would, and new people finding out about MSPA would most likely also only end up at those new forums. I think that would create a very split community. I mean, sure, we're already split over the forums, Tumblr, Reddit, etc. but IMO that is different. They're all different kind of websites that are great for specific things and which would be difficult to create on one of those other websites. Having two forums about the same thing would feel redundant to me. It divides the forum community, makes it harder to keep up with all discussions that are happening, and there would probably be a lot of repeating between the two forums. And it would take at least some popularity away of the new forums, and I just don't feel like it would be fair to it. Plus, though maybe I'm a bit biased because I've got more information about the new forums than most people, I believe the new forums will be very refreshing. They're going to be very different than what we've been used to, but in a very good way. I just don't think Omegaupdate could ever be as cool as those new forums will be. Personality of the staff should not be a problem either! At least for the initial staff, I can assure you there will only be great people to lead the forums. I understand your concern about "the end of a forum", just like what happened with the previous one. But I personally wouldn't see it that way. The previous one closed out of the blue, and we were left without access to any of its content (other than Web Archive / Google Cache). Members of the old forums had to find their way over here all by themselves, by finding out about it from other mediums. But with Omegaupdate, I'm giving everyone the chance to find their way to the new forums and keep as much of this community intact as we can. We will all go with the same memories of this place, and we will also continue to have access to Omegaupdate to keep referring to it. Continuing discussion of MSPA in two separate forums would get kind of pointless pretty quick (and at the risk of ruining the activity in either of them). But continuing Forum Adventures / Fan Projects / Creative Works, that's a different story to me. Just "moving on" to the new forums would be much harder for those separate sub-communities, because that's an actual DANGER to them. They might lose readers through the transition, after all. Which is why I'm fine with leaving the forum open just for those people, so people who don't want to risk losing anything through the transition can stay, or people who aren't comfortable with an immediate transition can take the time they need. I hope my reasoning on this makes sense. That's correct, I hadn't really mentioned anything about that yet. I will let the Moderators decide on what they want to do, but in any case I will continue to check in on this forum daily and see what's going on. I probably won't really be participating anymore (there aren't really any Forum Adventures/Fan Projects/Creative Works I'm actively following right now), but I will continue to keep an eye on everything so things don't go to absolute shit in the threads that remain open.

I'm out of the loop. Has there been official word the old forums are coming back? Yes, we first heard it here. You can see pretty much everything we know for certain in phillip's post history. No word on when yet, but it's happening.

Wow, I had no idea Phillip reached out back in June. That's actually really great news.
Until then, I really like this place and hope it continues to do well.

I'm out of the loop. Has there been official word the old forums are coming back? Yes, though they're working more towards setting up a new blank slate than restoring any old threads.

The Wayback machine, while leading to some promise for many of the threads that are in the forum game section, seems to be unable to reach the particular thread I have in mind. >:[ (at least at this time of posting.)
I'll see if I cant find what I am looking for, since there were many links I didn't explore. Thank you for linking those though, I really appreciate it!
