You gave up the option to flee when you tossed aside Fayre. You're still rather sure that, if needed, you can dash to Fayre's side, pick her up and make a run for it. You've done something like that with smaller things many times in sports. How much harder could it be to pick up and run with Fayre? But you hope that you can solve this without having to flee. You know you can't live the idea of running with your tail between your legs down. > Do giant snakes tend to be sapient, or at least controllable? If so it could be a useful ally. If not, however, force may be nessesary;
>100% attempt diplomacy. It's not like people will think less of you, if they learn that you're capable of talking to snakes, right? That's a TRUSTWORTHY character trait to have.
Your memory may be foggy, but you think you can recall some HIGHLY RESPECTABLE and TOTALLY TRUSTWORTHY characters having been able to communicate with snakes. Or maybe they weren't? You're not sure. What you ARE sure of is that Alula is going to give you Hell if and when she finds out that your first choice was to try and deal with the GIANT SNAKE peacefully rather than just slaying it. You don't think she knows how to solve problems with anything but through a use of force and fear. However, you've seen both your other SISTER and ANOTHER PERSON communicate with bigger beasts, so you know its possible. Time to see how well you can copy what you've seen them do. You hold out your hand to the GIANT SNAKE, offering a soft smile and trying to appear as harmless as you can, as nonthreatening as you can. The snake lowers its head to sniff at your hand, at least you think it does that, you don't know if snakes can actually smell or not. Orion: Hey there big guy, I'm not here to fight. Orion: How about we just relax, no need to get worked up here. I'm a friend, see?
You hope this works, it'd be nice if you could actually become friends with the GIANT SNAKE. Or not. Turns out you need to be DISNEY PRINCESS level in the Animal Commune skill tree before the GIANT SNAKE will even bother to listen to you. You didn't even know there was a skill tree for that. At least you were quick enough to not lose a hand.

CHECK ON FAYRE
You become Fayre for a brief moment just to see how things are on her, or rather your end. You have no idea what is going on. You can hear grunts, hisses and yells, so you assume it's a fight. But, over all? You're just very confused? You hope that Orion is okay but you can't even tell how the fight, if it is a fight, is going, and you feel that if you yell to him asking him what's going on, you might distract your newfound friend and get him hurt. So you're just going to sit here under the cloak and hope for the best. At least the fabric of his cloak is warm.
GO BACK TO FIGHT
During the brief moment you were Fayre, things got bad for you as Orion. the Giant Snake just does not care at all that you are from a superior species and shows no mercy in the fight. It didn't take long for it to have you wrapped up in it's tail and start crushing you- you're pretty sure you can feel your ribs and arms breaking under the pressure and God Damn does it hurt.
You decide that after this, if you survive, you're going to start taking your training lessons way more seriously.
The Giant Snake throws you to the ground and you feel blood run down your face from a gnash your head gets upon impact. Your vision starts swimming too from how hard you hit your head, everything is getting blurry.
You feel like everything up to this moment had been nothing but bad choices and you regret everything.

You try to keep conscious, honest, you do. Except it doesn't work. The snake had done a real number on you and your passing out before you can even do much to prevent it. When you open your eyes up next you find yourself in the familiarity of your own bed back on Novescala. For a moment you imagine that everything you had gone through in that forest had been a dream, but the ache in your body and bandages covering you tell you that it had been real. You feel better, at least. You still feel like your body just went through the shredder, but not nearly as badly as it had felt before. You feel like shit and you want to just keep sleeping for eternity, like you got some nasty hangover or something, but at least it feels like the worse of the injuries you sustained are all patched up and you're in the safety of your own home, so that's a good thing.

>Get up and examine your room, gotta make sure that it really is your room after all. You don’t really want to get up, but you get up and rub your aching head. It’s not bleeding anymore, so you’re kind of glad about that, but your hair is a mess, you can tell even without looking. Through groggy eyes you look around your room.
Looking Good.
You make sure to take a good long look at every wall before coming to your conclusion. Your posters and pictures are still there, your color scheme is still there, your dresser and dirty clothes piles are all still there.
Yep, this is your room.
You also realize that you don’t really have a lot of things in your bedroom. Just a bed and dresser for furniture. You should get some more things for it when you have the chance.

Well, you should do the anime thing now, where your acknowledge that your body and skills have failed you. Resolutely declare that you shall not rest until you surpass your current limits. GO HIT THE GYM. Strength train! Overexert yourself! Spar with your neighbor! EAT ALL OF YOUR HOUSE'S FOOD! LIFT EVERY POSSESSION YOU OWN!
Or, you know go demand answers from your sister. Was this all a test? Are they tracking you?

> Kick pile of laundry in frustration
You're not quite frustrated, but still, kicking the pile of laundry leaves you oddly satisfied and fills you with DETERMINATION. Mostly for getting dressed because wearing clothes are important in most cultures. Of course, you take your shirt out of the drawer and not from the pile of dirty clothes you just kicked.
You tear off that annoying bandaid on your cheek. Your not even bleeding in the face anymore, you don't need it. You also fix your bad case of bedhead.
>Examine the red thing on your chest Red thing? You don't quite understand- oh. That.
It's actually just an external bone. Your kind don't have hearts. Or brains for that matter. Those two organs aren't present in your race, instead you have a network of nerves and tissue protected by a bone casing called a CORE. It's your most vital organ, THE vital organ. It's what gives your race unique powers and the ability to recover faster than most. Some scholars theorize that if the core is left in perfect condition and is strong enough, you could even REGENERATE a whole new body. Of course that's just a wack theory, there is no proof to justify that claim since your kind still dies from injuries when the core is untouched. Sure you can still die from a shot to the head even though you don't actually have a brain or any other major organ up there, but because of your cores, Novescalan lifespans are a bit longer on average compared to others. Most still die fairly young though, in no small part because of the heavily militaristic and constantly in some kind of war culture that is Novescala. You're a race of conquerors, you didn't amass the most colonies out of all the empires by saying please and asking nicely.
Now you're talking! You're already pumped up for that, you don't care if the cooks will swat you with their ladles if you intrude on the kitchen to eat all the food, or if the maids swat you with their brooms for lifting everything, YOU ARE READY TO TRAIN! You'll get stronger and you'll never let some overgrown snake kick your ass ever again!
You'll move into the gym if you need to if that's what it takes to get stronger!
>Or, you know go demand answers from your sister. Was this all a test? Are they tracking you?
That sounds equally unpleasant and responsible. But most times you have to confront her are unpleasant and you both dread and fear having confrontations with her.
But it is something you need to do, far more important than bulking up right now. There is a laundry list of questions you need answers for. How she was tracking you is one, and where Fayre is at is another. You're just ASSUMING here, but you think that Fayre was brought back with you. Your sister isn't that cruel. You hope.
So long as she hasn't left for another colony, then she should be in the WEST WING STUDY of your home.

> Unthinking mass of nerves: encroach upon study
You swallow back your anxieties and begin your walk from your room to the study. The halls feel longer, darker today than they usually are and you can feel your blood rushing through your body the closer you get.
When you finally do reach the door, you can just barely hear voices from the inside, not enough to make out the words but enough that you can recognize the speakers. Both your sisters are in there it sounds like, that’s somewhat comforting, for as terrifying as Alula can be, Maia is more sympathetic and kind. She doesn’t yell at you or lash out at you if you bother her or do something wrong like Alula does. She doesn’t show her anger and is the only one who can pacify Alula’s wrath.
You steel your nerves and enter.
You find the two sitting in some of the sofa chairs, reading and talking to themselves, it appears they didn't notice your entrance, or likely ignored it.
Orion: Alula…? Maia?

>Take umbrage to that! Sure, you lost the fight, but FOOLISH? Who do they think they are? Lash out first (verbally)!
So bitter. You feel like you’re gonna puke. Anger starts to flare up, a sickening feeling in the pit of your gut.
Orion: I wasn’t being foolish! Sure, I made a mistake, but I wouldn’t call it being a fool!
Orion: I gave it my best, so what if I lost, I can take that as a learning experience to improve!
Orion: You’re always like this, I do one thing wrong and you treat me like I’m a little kid! Well, sorry we can’t all be Miss Perfect like you!
Your voice raises until you're almost yelling, and Alula, being Alula, doesn’t take that sitting down. She never does. And though she’s not yelling, her voice is just barely able to count as ‘calm’, it’s clear she’s holding back her anger.
Alula: Don’t you dare forget who saved your sorry self from being killed, or would you have rather I have let you become snake food? You’re lucky I thought to put a tracker in that awful cloak of yours otherwise you’d be dead right now.
Alula: I specifically told you not to leave the building while I was in that meeting. Not only did you disregard my clear instructions, but you wandered out of the town itself.
Alula: That’s beyond foolish, it's pure stupidity. This is why you’ll never be capable of claiming your own colony, much less running it!
Bitterness, so much bitterness it’s unbearable. Why is it that she always makes the bitterness spread? She knows, she knows how much you hate it when she brings up the fact that you have no planets of your own when she and Maia were running armies and their own colonies at your age. She knows how much you hate it. You hate it. You hate it. You hate it.
Orion: How would you know if I can colonize a planet or not if you never give me the chance? You expect me to ever reach this ridiculous high standard of yours if you never give me a chance to get better much less prove I’m able?
Orion: Just because you're the oldest and moms not here, you think you're so high and mighty, well you’re not, you’re just an awful b-
Before anything can escalate, Maia steps in, putting a hand on both your shoulders, her expression unreadable behind the veil she wears, but her tone is as calm and soothing as always.
Maia: Please, we’re family, let’s try to act like it.
Maia: Orion, I know it can be frustrating, but please try to understand we just don’t want you diving into something you’re not ready for.
Maia: and Alula, please remember he’s only fifteen. You made plenty of mistakes and bad choices when you were his age.

You take a deep breath to try and quell the frustration growing within you, and then ask her that.
Alula just looks at you with a raised brow and expression that isn't as angry as it was moments ago but somewhat unimpressed by what you were asking. Alula: Fayre?
Alula: Do you mean that kid you were dragging with you through that forest?
Alula: She's in the houses medical room since considering the condition she was in it only made sense. I had a feeling you'd whine and complain to no end if I didn't bring her back here with you.

Actually, that raises a question. What happened to your parents? If your kind is known for being really capable conquerers, what happened to you folks? Also, maybe try a soft whispered thank you to Alula, and excuse yourself. You might want to go to the Medical floor to get your core looked at. You were kinda crushed by a snake, after all.

>Actually, that raises a question. What happened to your parents? If your kind is known for being really capable conquerers, what happened to you folks? It's not as though your mom is dead or anything. She's just not on Novescala, or in your galaxy right now. Honestly, you doubt she's even capable of dying. She just up and leaves for long periods of time rather frequently to go on conquests and wars. She is THE conqueror, the one responsible for the majority of the vast empire your race possesses. Right now she's off somewhere far, far away scouting planets and conquering ones that would be useful and destroying ones that are too troublesome.
She sent you a snapchat of her recent adventure just a few days ago. Snapchat is pretty much your main form of connecting with her most of the time when she's off. >Also, maybe try a soft whispered thank you to Alula, and excuse yourself. You might want to go to the Medical floor to get your core looked at. You were kinda crushed by a snake, after all.You are immensely grateful that she brought Fayre with when she dragged you back home, you would have felt awful if she got left in that forest. Apparently Alula is capable of being a decent person now and then. Orion: Thanks
Alula doesn't give you a response as you slip out of the study and into the hall.
But the idea of going to the medical part of your home isn't a bad one. You'd like to check up on Fayre, and, though you didn't feel any cracks in your core when you woke up, it wouldn't hurt to have it checked up to make sure the casing is okay and the nerves inside aren't damaged.
Besides, you can feel your head hurting as the door closes behind you, you feel tired and worn, probably from the stress.
What should you even say to Fayre when you reach the wing? She might not be awake, but if she is, do you just casually welcome her into the house of royalty? You're not really sure what you should say to her when you see her again.

You finally reach the medical wing and after having some time during the long trip- like way to long. You know your house is huge, but there are too many stairs, your sisters or mother needs to invest in an elevator- you stand before the door. You recognize it by the simple red cross sign at the door. During that time, you decided to collect your thoughts and come up with some ideas of what to say when you entered. You’re not happy with what you came up with.

Go in and offer to work as volunteer for some time. If anyone questions it, explain that you're training your medical skills . . . to be a better fighter. If you can get the medics alone, you can ask for treatment, but discreetly. Plus, you can look for Fayre without making a big fuss of it.
