How much of that had Orion been practicing in hopes of saying. Also several thousand years is a pretty long time for a mom to be around.

-> Several Thousand Years?Orion gives a lazy shrug before rubbing at his shoulder, it's probably still a little sore from the snake incident, before he answers that question.
Orion: Novescalan's have a longer max lifespan in general. Most can live for a few hundred years. But since we're heavily militaristic, you can understand why a lot don't die of natural old age.
Orion: But my mother? She's a special case, she's been around since, like, forever. And I guess my sisters and I are special cases, too.
Orion: Mothers core is special, we think that's what's behind the eternal life. Like, she's not immortal-- I don't think she is at least-- but she won't die of old age or that stuff.
Orion: My sisters inherited that infinite life too, since Alula is going to be almost two thousand soon, and Maia is halfway through her first thousand years. I can only assume I'm gonna have the same sort of life span, but it's too early to tell if I've inherited the whole 'never grow old' trait.
Orion: I don't really get why or how our cores are so different. You'd have to cut them out of our chests and disect them to actually know, and none of us are too willing to die for science.
Orion: But, it's made some people think my moms a god of some sort, when she's not mind you, so there's that.
So basically, if you're understanding this right, Orion and his family just have special organic rocks in their chests that give them potentially eternal lives. And his mom is worshipped as a god by some of their people. Good to know.

You'll admit, it's weird, but interesting, when thinking of how how different Orion really is from you. Not just in species, but just everything. Status, family, even the lifespan will be so much different. Fayre: I know you're a prince and all, but it must be something to have a mom like yours. Fayre: And eternal life, too? Fayre: Are you absolutely sure you don't got any godly blood? Orion: Haha, nah.
Orion: Trust me, I think I'd know if I was a demigod. You just hum, still lounging in the throne as you watch Orion on the steps. Honestly? It's still hard to imagine that this guy is royalty, much less with a small possibility of being somewhat divine, even if he denies that last part. Orion is nothing like what you'd grown up hearing princes would be like, and you can't even picture him on a gallant white steed rescuing princesses from towers and slaying snakes.
Fayre: Seriously, though? You're family and your people sound really interesting.
Fayre: Lots more than us Orcaluns. Orion: So not true. Your race is amazing too! Fayre: Literally the only 'amazing' thing about us is that our stomachs can digest almost anything.
Fayre: You guys are still pretty amazing. Alula: Novescalans are the most superior out of all the species out there.
Alula: It's no wonder you'd find our kind amazing.
Orion: A-Alula! Alula: Orion.Alula: Perhaps you should explain to your 'friend' that mothers throne is not hers to sit. Orion: not like mother'll be around to care. Fayre: Oh, um, hello ma'am!
Where did she come from and how did she get here without either you or Orion even noticing? It's freaky how she was able to just sneak up on you both like that.

–> Fayre get off the throne and try and be polite/respectful; she looks like she’s the one in charge here, and she did take you with her when she rescued Orion, so maybe say thanks. You’ve barely climbed off of the throne before Orion grabbed you and pulled you behind him and away from his sister. You’re not sure why he’d do that, his sister doesn’t seem like a bad person, but you’ll have to trust that he knows her better than you.
Well, of course he knows his own sister better than you do. You barely know the woman, he’s grown up with her.
But you still feel a little anxious as Orion puts himself between you and Alula, commencing a tense staredown with the taller and older woman, and you can’t help but grab onto him just for your own sense of safety.
Fayre: Um, thank you for helping me, ma’am.
Fayre: I mean by, uh, taking me with you and Orion and bringing me here.
Fayre: And, ah, the limbs, too. The doctor said you gave the order to give me them.
Fayre: I, ah, thank you.
It’s hard to say thanks to a rather intimidating stranger who also happens to be royalty and is probably the one in charge of everything around here at the moment. You feel like just one wrong word and you’ll be thrown out.
Orion: Fayre…
Alula: How’s it that your ragged friend here has more manners than you, Orion?
Alula: It takes you forever just to bring yourself to show some gratitude.
Orion: Fayre isn't 'ragged'! Fayre: What does that even mean?
Orion: And I do to have manners Orion: you just never do anything that deserves a thanks.
Alula: What was that?
Orion: Nothing.
Yeah, these two are siblings alright. Though the tension between them is more than most siblings would have, you swear you could probably cut the air between them with a knife if you had one.

==> Fayre, Acquire a knife and test this hypothesis!
It’s not really a knife but more of a letter opener you snatched from the medical room place while the doctor wasn’t looking. But you try cutting the air between Orion and Alula. Though you’re not really sure if you’re actually cutting anything or not, what with the air being invisible and all that. But you try slicing the letter opener through the air a few time just to be sure.Alula: What...
Alula: What is she doing?Orion: I have no idea.==> Just maybe sorta grab Orion by the arm, and tug him back into the hallway. Orion: Ow! So maybe your grip is a bit stronger on your new arm, you probably should have thought of that before you grabbed his arm and started pulling him away from Alula. But it was for his own good, with how they were glaring at each other, you had the feeling that they were seconds from tearing each others throats out. You do offer him a quick apology for the possible bruising you may have just given him.You can’t have them murdering each other. Well, you can’t have Orion dying more like it, you don’t really know anyone else here and you’d hate to have a friend die so early in. Alula: Hey! Where do you think you’re going!
Alula: I didn’t dismiss either of you!You pretend you’re suddenly deaf as well as half-blind and ignore her as you continue pulling Orion down the hall until you’re out of the throne room, leaving his sister behind. Hopefully she doesn’t take too much offense.Back in the grey halls, you are! ==> ask Orion if they have a Garden around here, as you'd like to see some of his world from the outdoors. ==> Fayre go outside if you canOrion: so was there a reason you dragged me away from my sister like that?
Orion: Thank you for that, by the way. Rather you not see us being terrible to each other. Fayre: You’re welcome. Thought you’d wanna get away, anyway. The two of you are walking as you talk, trying to discretely put some distance between yourselves as the throne room. Neither of you know if she’s going to come out after you guys and neither you or Orion want to risk it.Fayre: Hey, is there any chance we can go outside?Orion: Outside? Why?Fayre: Well, being inside is all stuffy and junkFayre: And I can’t really see what Novescala looks like if all I’m seeing are grey or brown walls, can I?Fayre: Do you got a garden? I bet you have a garden! All royal people got big royal gardens to do the stuffy royal upperclass tea parties and stuff in! Orion: Haha I don’t know about tea parties, but we do have a rose garden.
Orion: I’ll take you there. He grabs on to your distinctively fleshy hand and not the cold metal one as he leads you down the winding halls and flights of stairs.==> Some ten minutes later
Fresh air is nice, you know? You never realized how much you missed it until you were stuck inside for what felt like forever. But even more?Fayre: It’s so pretty! The gaden is huge, you can see the something of a little lilly-pad filled pond not to far in front of you, and the path breaks off into either direction, you wonder if the garden just encircles the entire castle. There are all sorts of rose bushes and even some massive flower bush-tree things with different colored roses A small patio sits to the side, and all the way ahead is a large grey wall with a single door. You suppose that’s to keep out intruders. You think you see some people atop of the walls, but its hard to see. They’re probably guards patrolling. Orion: You think so?
Orion: It’s a nice place to go if you need some peace Fayre: I’ve never seen a garden like this, I’ve never seen so many flowers in one place!
Fayre: It’s beautiful!

==> Fayre examine the flowersAs soon as you're sure it's okay to do so, you head to the first rose bush and just stare in amazement at it, it was almost as tall as you, and there were so many others that were so much bigger than this one! Your sense of smell overcome by the rosey scents that wafted from all the bushes.
The purple roses were so pretty, too. You'd never seen purple flowers before.
Fayre: There's so many flowers here! How do you guys tend to them all?
Orion: We have grounds keepers and gardeners who tend to the yard.
Fayre: Oh, right, duh.
Fayre: Stupid question, sorry.
Orion: There's no such thing as a 'stupid question'.
Orion chuckled as he said that, plucking a purple, distinctively-non rose flower from an adjacent bush, smiling fonldy at the pale violet flower.
Orion: The garden circles the entire castle, we've brought in flowers native to so many planets to the garden too.
Orion: Or, well, the flowers that can grow here.
Fayre: I think it's cool that you do that.
Fayre: You get to see so many pretty plants without having to go to their planet to do so.
He hummed as you said that, twirling the flower between his fingers before looking over to you with a mischevious glint in his eyes and a playful grin as though he'd just come up with an idea.
Orion: Hold still for a second.
==>
He ruffled your hair a little before slipping the flower in between the red strands, backing up with a satisfied smile.
Orion: I was right
Orion: It looks pretty on you.
Fayre: You really think it looks pretty on me?
Orion: Course it does, would I lie to you?
Fayre: How do I know you haven't been lying to me the whole time?
Even as you talk, your face warms from the embarassment from it all. You haven't been called pretty before, it's a nice feeling. Sheesh, he's going to make you into just as much a sappy dork as he is at this rate.
Fayre: But, thank you.

Fayre ==> give him a hair flower in return, become flower buddies. You pluck a flower from one of the bushes, careful to make sure there aren't any thrones on them first. Once Orion looks away, distracted by some of the flowers beside you two, you stand on your toes to reach and slip the rose behind his ear.
The startled look on his face is priceless.
Fayre: There we go!
Orion: Fayre...? What'd you...
His confusion, however, soon broke into a sheepish, embarassed smile as the princel looks down at the ground and chuckling to himself. He's enjoying this even if he doesn't want to show it too much.
Orion: Come on, Fayre.
Orion: I look silly with this.
Fayre: No you don't, you look fine!
Orion: You don't need to lie for my ego.
Orion: I can't take the truth, I look like a dork with this.
Fayre: You look like a dork without it, too.
Orion: Oh wow.
Orion: Ouch.
Orion: I should-
He faltered as he spoke and his smile turned to a nervous frown. Still not looking up, Orion started talking again.
Orion: I should probably get back to Alula, actually.
Orion: I don't want to get you on her bad side because we up and left her back there.
Orion: She can make you miserable here if she doesn't like you, trust me.
Orion: Do you think you'd be okay out in the gardens on your own for a little while?
Fayre: I'm twelve, not nine, I don't need a chaperone to enjoy some flowers.
Fayre: If you really feel like you need to get back to your sister, then you should go.

Back to being Orion then: Go find Alula, and forgot that you have a flower in your hair.

==> Be Orion==> Find AlulaYou leave Fayre to her own devices in the garden as you head back inside. You already have an idea of where Alula probably is right now, so you don't think it'd be that hard to find her. She'd probably have headed back to her personal office or something. Even if she isn't there, it's as good a place as any to start looking. The flower in your hair is thoroughly forgotten by the time you make your way down the grey halls and find her office door. There is the sound of rustling from within, so either it's Alula or someone snuck in without permission, someone who will probably be dead before the day is done if that's the case. Even though you know there are a lot of really dumb people out in this world, you doubt there is anyone dumb enough to actually sneak into her office, so it's probably Alula on the other side of the door. What are you even going to say to her? You can't say you're really looking forward to this, the stress of it is bound to make your hair even whiter than it already is.But she went out of her way to find you in the throne room, so there was probably some reason to it.==> Put on your serious face before you meet Alula again You take a deep breath to calm your nerves and get yourself all mentally prepared for the storm that is soon to come. Your shoulders are back and a frown graces your face as you try to look more mature rather than a kid. With one knock to give her a warning, you push the door open and step into the lions den.==> Apologize for leaving, say you thought the sibling rivalry was a bit tooo intense to have in front of a guest. When you enter into her office, Alula was standing in the middle of the room reading over a few papers. Her head looks up when you step in and close the door behind you, feeling small under her scruitinizing gaze. Feeling like a clumsy, tooth-missing little kid.
Orion: Hey, Alula.
Alula: I see you've decided to grace me with your presence.
Alula: Or are you just coming to say 'hi' before you run off again?
Orion: I'm sorry about that.
Orion: I didn't think us arguing like always was appropriate behavior in front of a guest.
It's not a complete lie, at least. You'd hate for Fayre to see the two of you are your usual, it'd be embarassing. Though, it kind of feels like Alula's not looking at you. Like, she's looking at you, but focused on something else? Do you have dirt on your cheek or something?
Alula: Hmph
Alula: I see you've left your guest.
Alula: Is it wise to leave her on her own?
Orion: Oh, please, Fayre will be fine. ==> Fayre eat the flowers
You are (briefly) Fayre again, currently happily munching on some weirdly pink-and-purple-polka-dotted flowers.
It really isn't all that great. The flower has a slimy, puply texture that just gets worse the more you chew and just feels weird going down your throat when you swallow. Seriously unimpressed. 0/10, wouldn't eat again. You're not even feeling any of those weird affects people talk about after eating plants off the ground. At least the stem is juicy in a good way.
You're just gonna wander around until Orion gets back. Maybe you'll find some tastier flowers along the way. ==> Orion: Ask if there was a reason she came to see you
You're Orion again, and the intensity that Alula is glaring at your hair is making you uncomfortable. So you just clear your throat to try and shoo away any nervousness.
Orion: So...
Orion: What did you want from me?
Alula: We got a letter for you.
Alula: From mother.
Did you hear that right? Mother sent a letter home, for you specifically? That rarely happens. She's usually so busy. You're not even sure what to say but you're certain there must be some kind of a dumb expression on your face right now by the way that Alula rolls her eyes. She does, however, pull a paper from her desk and hands it to you to read.
To Orion, Regarding your recent Nameday celebration, I wish you a happy fifteenth. It feels like only yesterday you were a baby still at my bosom and it always warms my heart and makes it ache to see how fast you and your sisters have grown up. However, it has come to my attention that as you are getting older, it is time for you to start taking in more responsibility for your lineage.
You are Novescalan, my little najima. You are a prince. It is time that we treat you as such. I am aware that I have lapsed in my duty to do this, a part of me hoped I would never have to face this day as it would mean that you are no longer just my little boy, but a leader. But you are of age now and it is not my place to deny you your future. As such, you will be tasked to conquer a planet and to start your first colony. My counsel and I have chosen a planet that we have felt would serve well as your first, the coordinates for the planet are 10B Sector X9.
Just as I have done for your sisters in their first conquest, I am sending you a portion from my own fleets and armies to serve under your command. Leading them is Commander Sirius, you may remember him as he has been one of my most trusted advisors and commanders for a long time. He will serve as your advisor and Second-in-Command. My fleet, no, your fleet will be arriving in a fortnight of you receiving this letter. You will be given as much time as you need to prepare. I know you will do Novescala and myself proud.
Sincerely, The High Queen Seren
You're not quite sure you can believe your eyes, so you read the letter once, then twice. You must have been on your fifth read-through of the letter when you finally look up at Alula with eyes wide, disbelief and nervous excitement.
You're own colony... you're own army...?
Orion: This is... this is real, right?
Alula: Unfortunately, yes.
Alula: Against my own advise, she's decided you're ready to be a conquror.
Alula: She still doesn't know what a fortnight is, either.
Orion: Seriously?
Alula: Seriously. The armies she's sending you will be here in a few days.
That's a lot sooner than you expected. But you should have known a 'fortnight' wasn't going to mean 'an actual two-week period' when it comes to Mother. You're sure she just thinks fortnight is a fancy word for an unspecific amount of time. But that's beside the point.
You're finally going to have your own planet.
Alula: Also, it's been bothering me this whole time.
Alula: Why do you have a flower in your hair?
What? A flow--Oh. Shit.

==> Reminisce on your history with Commander SiriusYou don't know him that well, in fact the last time you think you've seen him was back when you were probably six or so. Your mother had taken you with her on a visit of one of her icy colonies and Commander Sirius had been assigned to be your personal body guard to keep you out of trouble and safe from potential assassins. From what you remember, you two got along well enough and he was a very nice fellow.
Commander Sirius: Look what I have found, my prince.
Commander Sirius: It's sentient and aggressive, fascinating, isn't it? Orion: It's one of those carnivore plants! Orion: Can I keep it, can I, please? Commander Sirius: Haha, we'd have to ask the Her Grace if we can bring it back. Mother didn't let you keep the plant, sadly. But it was fun getting to see one of them. Though that was beside the point. From what you remember, you two got along well enough when you were a little boy, you're sure you two will still do well together. You're excited for this. Being a conqueror, having your own colonies, this has been what you've been waiting for your whole life. It's not like it's too soon, either, if anything you're starting a little late. But... Are you really ready? You're not sure.
You don't know a much beyond the basics in diplomacy or strategy. Certainly not enough to stand in the same league as your family, but then again there is a vast difference in experience between the two of you. There are so many things you still don't know. So many things you'll have to do when starting the colony. It honestly pains you to even have to ask, but this is something you can't let your own pride be in the way of. But it's still hard to ask and your body language shows how reluctant you are.Orion: Alula.
Orion: Could you and Maia help me in like, advice and stuff?
Orion: I've never done this before, I wouldn't know how to start. Your sister doesn't respond, not at first, instead she watches you critically. Even after taking the flower out of your hair, you probably still don't look like a ruler to her.Alula: We've no choice. Orion: Huh? Alula: Your success or failure will reflect not just on you, but on the empire as a whole.
Alula: I will not let you make Novescala appear weak because you can't conquer and run a single colony.
Alula: Between now and when you depart, Maia and I will teach you what we know. So that maybe you won't be a spectacular failure when you're out on your own.Well it's not the kindest way she could have said it, but at least she'll help. You'll take what you can get right now. ==> Is your mother Welsh?
Orion: By the way.
Orion: Is mom Welsh?
Alula: ....
Alula: The Hell's a welsh?
Orion: No idea.
Alula: She's western Novescalan, star-born and star-named just like us. I don't even know what welsh is but I doubt that is what she is.
Alula: "Is she welsh" gods how are we related.
Orion: Wow.
Orion: It was just a question. No need to be rude.

Go find a library of training material / administrative tutorials to load into your personal cabin on your flagship. While Alula and Maia will be teaching you what they know, if you learn things independently, you'll look that much more professional. Besides, loading your personal cabin with a treasure trove of knowledge will impress the crew, no doubt!

You need to look after your guest and then go over all the intel on the planet at 10B Sector X9.

You need to look after your guest and then go over all the intel on the planet at 10B Sector X9. So much to do. So, so much. Reading, lots and lot's of reading and reasearching, from past conquests, histories of generals and commanders who had lead armies, former diplomatic missions, anything and everything that can help you learn what kind of tactics might work. Different terrain probably requires different methods for conquest. You also need to check whatever documents you can on your own terminal in your study. Probably reorganize your study to be more office-like and less gamer-room-like. You're sure your mother has lifted the restrictions she placed on what reports and documents you can view now that you'll be commanding an army of your own in the coming days. Oh God, you're probably going to work to remember everyone's names and faces in your fleet, or at least the squads and commanding officers. You also need to make sure Fayre is doing okay, unlikely that you'll be able to bring her with her so you'll have to make sure she's settled in here.
Gods so much to do it's making your head spin. You are not looking forward to this. You're looking forward to finally being a commander, a colonizer, a conqueror, but you're not excited about the many long and sleepless nights you'll have to deal with to get there.
But you gotta do the work if you want everything to turn out right.
You can't disappoint your mother or your sisters.
By now Alula has already poured herself a shot of Ryncol liqour and has started sifting through different reports she's been given that day. Given the looks of them they look like their from on-planet.
Orion: Alula, mind if I leave now?
Alula: You're dismissed, you're free to go.
Orion: Thanks.
As you get up to leave, you pause and look back to your sister, not sure if you want to ask because you'd probably be bothering her, but nah, you should do this.
Orion: If you have any reports on this planet or specific crew-members I'll be receiving, could you forward them to me?
Orion: Or even any recommendations you'd give me for this?
Alula: You're taking this seriously. Color me impressed.
Alula: I'll compile any reports and reccommendations that may be useful to you. You should receive them by tonight.
Orion: Thank you.
With that, you dismiss yourself and close the door to her office softly behind you. There is still so much to do, so much to check up on. You could probably leave Fayre to her own devices, she's pretty self relient, can probably handle herself for a few more hours. Not like she can get into any real trouble out in the gardens. Worse comes to worse she eats every flower in sight. But you doubt she'd do that, what kind of weirdo would eat random flowers in a garden?
You decide to head to the library, get a head start on your research.
Rows and rows of books, some thousands of years old. Histories and general memoirs, from play-by-plays of past wars, famous generals, notable colonizatios and conquests. Boy is it gonna be fun to figure out what books out of thousands are the ones you need. At least you got a couple of hours you can spare for that tonight before you should see how Fayre is doing.

Got any favourite Generals? History is great and all, but you need to know if this is likely a Conquest or Diplomacy situation before you attempt to read the entire library. So which General do you want to be? Grab some books about them and leave the rest of the history and strategy until later.

==> Got any favourite Generals? History is great and all, but you need to know if this is likely a Conquest or Diplomacy situation before you attempt to read the entire library. So which General do you want to be? Grab some books about them and leave the rest of the history and strategy until later. You're pretty much obligated to say that your favorite generals are your mother and sisters. And honestly it's the conquests they head personally that you like hearing about the most, so much more action and drama to it when a ruler is in charge of the operation. Though you do like the adventures of the general Jericho, he conqured an entire solar system in the name of your mother, and that's only a small piece of his colorful career as a general. Too bad he's a few thousand years dead, got ripped apart in a very gorey demise during minor rebellion on one of the planet's he'd conqured. Apprently the survivors of that attack weren't able to eat meat for months after seeing what the aliens had done to Jericho.
It's really too bad, you'd have loved to have him in your fleet. Though he'd probably still be dead even if he survived the attack. The common people can't live for millenia. But honestly, you'd like to be the kind of general who doesn't need to resort to violence and wars to create colonies. If you can solve these things without needless bloodshed then you'll be happy. But you're also very much aware that it's not that common that the fleets can take over an entire planet without a fight. At least with the planets that have intelligent lifeforms that can fight back, the ones that don't have civilizations or people are pretty easy since no one can say no. To bad you don't know which one this planet will be.Still, you grab a stack of books focusing on planets that were conqured mainly through diplomacy rather than war and find a table among the bookcases. You got books of Sol who got many of the enemy generals to join Novescala in the Orcalun Uprisings with words of peace rather than threats and violence, memoires of Vela and Pyxis who worked together to create a peace treaty on Acadia, the Gold Wedding, the Treaty of the Ator and so on. Surely some of them can give you some idea of how to go about this without starting a war.
You'll try and stick it out with reading for an hour or two and then go back to Fayre in the garden.==> Maybe while your studying, check up on Fayre too? While Orion is off doing his boring princely duties and studying, you've been having fun wandering the gardens and snacking on flowers. So far the pink flowers with the fluffy petals have been your favorite, they have a sugary flavor to them and the stems have a sweet almost honey-like juice to them.
Honestly you're having fun just exploring the gardens. It feels like there is no end to flower bushes and trees and you could walk them forever. Honestly you probably can, metal legs don't get tired as easily as fleshy ones. Though the doctor did warn against moving for too long until your stumps get used to the prosthetics or something. You were in a lot of pain at the moment because of the nerve connections being made so you couldn't really pay attention.
But someone's been playing music out here in the gardens, you noticed it about ten minutes after ditching Orion, or maybe you just got close enough to be able to hear it. You haven't been able to find the player yet, but it's still nice just to listen to it as you walk. Soft singing and some kind of string instrument, it's really pretty, way prettier than most singing you've heard. so I just noticed it now but I may have misinterpertated the Fayre command, my bad.

Orion> Make a mental note to get in some self defence lessons. Remembering how Jericho died and your recent embarrassment against that Snake should remind you its a dangerous universe out there. Bodyguards are only good when they are there.
Fayre> Continue exploring towards the music.
Mysterious Music Player> Be Maia? (if Maia is on the planet at the moment.)
