MSPA Madness is back for 2023! "Now wait a second, it's not pi day" you may be asking yourself. Well, to answer that, we're going to need to take a look back... Ten years ago, I was a college freshman for meteorology (who didn't even know she was trans), who was very in to Homestuck. I decided to try something fun, a tournament between a bunch of characters from all of MSPA. And every single year since, I've been doing the exact same thing. Homestuck has come and gone, and people's interests have waxed and waned. But lo, here I am, back in college for meteorology (but a Master's degree this time!), and I feel like it too, is time for me to move on. As such, this is the last MSPA Madness that I will be hosting (so yes, no need to get nitpicky, the ultimate in the title is accurate). I was honestly thinking of doing this last year but decided against it, but the lackluster responses then just convinced me to do it this year.
With that out of the way, however; just because this is the last, doesn't mean I can't do anything special. And that's exactly why this is starting a week early. This year, I'm actually planning on doing two votes: One between the top finishing characters of all time, and a last-chance play-in for anyone to try and sneak in. First up, anyone who has ever won one of the prior MSPA Madness tournaments (ie John, Dave, Jade, Roxy, Karkat, Terezi, or Wayward Vagabond) will automatically qualify for the final tournament. Also, whoever wins this first one will also qualify. The other eight slots will be made up of the characters with the best average finish among all the tournaments (albeit weighted more recently, so as to not disadvantage some of the newer characters). The first tournament, the one starting actually on Pi Day, will only be thirty-two characters rather than the full sixty-eight, so you better place your favorites high up on the qualifying list to make sure they get in and have a chance~ (unless if your favorite is one of the prior winners; they won't be eligible bc they already made it in). FAQ, some old, some new: Q: Do I have to fill up all 32 slots?A: Nope! You can do as many or as few as you want. If you like a character, vote for them; if you don't, leave them off. No really, leave them off if you don't want them; I had someone put a character they didn't like in as a protest vote as 64th place. That 64th place vote put them into the tournament. Q: Are these two characters the same person?A: Right off the top of my head, if it's akin to The Condesce and Meenah or Mom Lalonde and Roxy, they are surely separate. If you still aren't sure, just put them both down anyways. As long as it's not intentional duplication (like a response I had before that answered literally every question with Jane Crocker), I'll overlook it. And for two years in a row, nobody has done this!!! Q: What should I put for this character's name?A: Since I record the votes manually, it doesn't matter what name you put down, as long as I can figure out what character it is. So if it's from something obscure, feel free to put a note saying where. I might not recall that Stelth is from And It Don't Stop. Q: Wait, And It Don't Stop? You mean I can literally pick anything from Hussie and throw it in here?A: Correct! If he had a part in making it, anything from it is eligible to be voted for. Q: Where can I find some of the old comics?A: Unfortunately, the website containing Hussie's old works was taken down. I normally have an Internet Archive link here, but that seems to not be working either. When in doubt, Google is always a friend. Q: What if I accidentally vote for a character who won before?A: I'll just skip over it, like what I do for accidental duplications. Don't worry about it too much. Q: Can I do MSPA Madness in the future?A: Yes! In fact, if you get in contact with me anywhere (cough cough i put a discord link into the voting), I will even happily share any information and helpful advice I have. So, without further ado, MSPA MADNESS QUALIFYING VOTING IS NOW OPEN!

Well, we've made it to the semifinals, and after a bit of a delay and shill, we've got the four characters advancing:
VOID DIVISIONBetween Becquerel and Aradia Megido, the winner is... ARADIA MEGIDO with 80% of the vote! HEART DIVISIONBetween Davesprite and Tavros Nitram, the winner is... DAVESPRITE with 90% of the vote! LIFE DIVISIONBetween Nepeta Leijon and Dad Egbert, the winner is... NEPETA LEIJON with 60% of the vote! HOPE DIVISIONBetween Jake English and Vriska Serket, the winner is... JAKE ENGLISH with 54.55% of the vote!
And so without further ado, Semifinal voting is open! Please note that 5th place voting is here, just because I have to make the grand finals bracket to come out as soon as the finals are done, so this is just to make my life easier. It'll still be revealed for the finals, but we're doing it now.

And the votes are in! Who will the two finalists be, dueling it out for an automatic entry for the grand finals, the ULTIMATE MSPA Madness? First up, between Davesprite and Aradia... With 68% of the vote, the first finalist is... ARADIA MEGIDO And facing them, between Nepeta and Jake... With 54.17% of the vote, the other finalist is... NEPETA LEIJON
There were a lot more votes for having these finals end when they were scheduled, so this round of voting ends on the 30th. And no, you don't get fifth through eighth now; those will be revealed at the same time they usually are. So just a reminder for what's going to happen then: The seven prior winners of MSPA Madness (John, Dave, Jade, Roxy, Karkat, Terezi, and Wayward Vagabond), whoever wins this finals vote, and the eight best finishers besides those will all be entered, straight into the Saccharine Sixteen. And from this point, it will proceed as a normal MSPA Madness until crowning the grand and final champion on April 13th. Vote in the MSPA Madness (Regular) Finals NOW!

And here we are! Which of Aradia or Nepeta will win the play-in? Who else will qualify for the end? Well, the only way to find out is to proceed, AND SO...

And so she will be joining the prior winners in the final tournament! Did the runner-up do well enough to qualify? to make a long story short yeah technically both of them qualified as soon as they won their first round match But, who all made it in? SBURB DIVISION1) Roxy Lalonde - Average finish: 3rd 2) Terezi Pyrope - Average finish: 3rd 3) Aradia Megido - Average finish: 12th 4) Rose Lalonde - Average finish: 6th 5) Dirk Strider - Average finish: 17th 6) Kanaya Maryam - Average finish: 8th 7) Davesprite - Average finish: 23rd 8) Davepetasprite - Average finish: 18th SGRUB DIVISION1) Dave Strider - Average finish: 4th 2) Jade Harley - Average finish: 6th 3) Nepeta Leijon - Average finish: 16th 4) Karkat Vantas - Average finish: 5th 5) Wayward Vagabond - Average finish: 8th 6) John Egbert - Average finish: 5th 7) Vriska Serket - Average finish: 15th 8) Dad Egbert - Average finish: 20th BRACKET now some of the seeds might seem out of order, but that's because seeding is from a weighted average while this is just normal average. And so, for the last time... VOTING IN THE SACCHARINE SIXTEEN IS OPEN

Well, after this, there will only be four characters left. Who will make up those characters?
SBURB DIVISIONBetween Roxy Lalonde and Rose Lalonde, the winner is... Roxy Lalonde with 71.43% of the vote! Between Terezi Pyrope and Kanaya Maryam, the winner is... Terezi Pyrope with 57.14% of the vote! SGRUB DIVISIONBetween Dave Strider and Wayward Vagabond, the winner is... Well, lookie here... we have a tie. And despite the two ties last year with me saying "if you don't like the tiebreak method, let me know because I'm more than willing to listen", nobody said anything. So, uh, with that in mind, keeping in mind the tiebreak is the largest average lead through the vote, the winner is... Wayward Vagabond with an average lead of +.214 votes! And last but not least, between Jade Harley and John Egbert, the winner is... Jade Harley with 64.29% of the vote!
And with that, the last finishing four begins...

Well, this is it: the very last MSPA Madness voting round ever (at least, done by me: as said before, if someone wants to take up this mantle for next year, you're free to do so). Who are our two finalists going to be?
Between Jade Harley and Wayward Vagabond... With 56.52% of the vote... WAYWARD VAGABOND gets the upset and claims the first spot in the finals from his first Finishing Four appearance since winning the whole thing in 2015! Between Roxy Lalonde and Terezi Pyrope... With 52.17% of the vote... TEREZI PYROPE wins this match-up for the second year in a row to get a spot in the finals and a chance at being the first back-to-back winner!
I mean, what more is there to say now?

!s th!s l!ke....some sort of fantasy sports league?? !m just not sure ! understand... It's a vote for your favorite character from anything from MS Paint Adventures. I've been running this in some form or another for the past ten years, dating back to when this was still on the MSPA Forums. I'd say you now know enough to choose between Terezi and WV on the poll linked above, but given that I'm literally starting to write the concluding post right now.... uh... you can still try; I always leave the vote open until literally when I type in the winner's name.

And as I said, here's the final post. But before we get to seeing who is the winner of the last MSPA Madness (run by me, that is; like I said before, if someone wants to take up this mantle, by all means go ahead), let's see how the characters got here...
She might be a teal blood, but in the context of MSPA Madness, Terezi is a solid blue-blood competitor. As if you ignore the very first contest which was run kinda weirdly, she is the only character to have never finished worse than fourth (Roxy finished 6th in 2020, otherwise she would be here too). Officially, she qualified upon winning the 2019 MSPA Madness tournament. Qualifying at-large as a #2 seed and being the highest rated troll, she ended up with an easy path into the Saccharine Sixteen, by beating both the ham from Inappropriate Time for Ham and Jasproseprite in the first two rounds with over 80% of the vote. In the Saccharine Sixteen, she faced off against none other than Wayward Vagabond, and won with just under 60% of the vote. Next up, she had to face off against Rose Lalonde, and pulled off the upset, again just shy of 60% of the vote. For the Finishing Four, she faced off against Roxy, who had beaten her in the 2018 finals, and, in a controversial decision, won on a tiebreaker, because both she and Roxy had the same number of votes. In her second ever finals, she faced off against Dave, who had also barely eked his way into the finals, and pulled off a victory with 52% of the vote. She also won last year if you want to reread that, making her the only person besides Roxy to have won multiple tournaments. 2013 - Second Round 2014 - 3rd 🥉 2015 - 4th 2016 - 4th 2017 - 4th 2018 - 2nd 🥈 2019 - 1st 🥇 2020 - 4th 2021 - T-3rd 🥉 2022 - 1st 🥇 Wayward Vagabond, on the other hand, though making it a fair ways in to the tournament, usually doesn't end up with a specific place. Although he did come tied for third in the first tournament (again, because of weird formatting), he didn't seem to do much in 2014. For 2015, that changed quite a bit. Although he won the autobid for the exiles (which I'm not 100% certain, but I believe he did every single year from 2014 when I introduced autobids to last year because I didn't do them this year), it was only good enough for a 6 seed. And though he won his match against Mindfang handily with over 80% of the vote, all it was good for was a second round match against Dirk. However, he pulled off the upset, and ended up with just under 60% of the vote, only to be placed up against Karkat in the Saccharine Sixteen. And yet, we know how this ends up because he's here: another upset by just three votes out of over 120, and this lead to the brakes coming off: while the other three Elect Eight matches were decided by ten percent or less, he upset Rose with over 75% of the vote, knocked off the reigning champ Roxy with 60% of the vote in the Finishing Four, and topped it off with a close match and another 52% win over Kanaya to take the title. Since then, he has made every single Saccharine Sixteen, yet only once has won that match. 2013 - T-3rd 🥉 2014 - Saccharine Sixteen 2015 - 1st 🥇 2016 - Saccharine Sixteen 2017 - Saccharine Sixteen 2018 - Saccharine Sixteen 2019 - Saccharine Sixteen 2020 - 5th 2021 - Saccharine Sixteen 2022 - Saccharine Sixteen And so we come to this year. Since they were both prior winners, no need for the first tournament. Terezi qualified as a 2 seed (should have been a 1, but that would have meant she could have faced Roxy in the finals as a repeat of last year, which I do not allow), while WV ended up as only a 5 seed. Yet both have taken care of their jobs to get here: Terezi handily beat Davesprite in the Saccharine Sixteen, got just under 60% of the vote against Kanaya in the Elect Eight, and beat Roxy for the second year in a row in the Finishing Four. Meanwhile, WV pulled off the three upsets needed to get here: taking down Karkat with 60% of the vote in the Saccharine Sixteen, winning a tiebreaker against Dave in the Elect Eight, and knocking out Jade to claim the second spot. And so, with all of that, the winner is... NOT TO BE ANNOUNCED JUST QUITE YET, BECAUSE I HAVE ALL THE FUN STUFF TO GET TO FIRST!!!BIGGEST UPSET:Wayward Vagabond over Jade Harley HARDEST MATCH TO CHOOSE BETWEEN:Roxy vs Jade for third place BIGGEST UNDERPERFORMANCEJohn Egbert, getting eliminated in the first round BIGGEST OVERPERFORMANCERoxy Lalonde, though I feel this might be a more of an overall rather than for this contest specifically BEST CHARACTER LEFT OUTPickle Inspector, which, yes we needed more non-Homestuck representation, it's just nobody voted for them.
And so, with that, we come to the end. The last votes in MSPA Madness History. 8th: Dave Strider - 15%7th: John Egbert - 25%T-5th: Kanaya Maryam - 30%T-5th: Rose Lalonde - 30%4th: Roxy Lalonde - 35%3rd: Jade Harley - 65%AND YOUR WINNER IS...: 2nd: Wayward Vagabond - 45% 1st: Terezi Pyrope - 55%
TEREZI PYROPE WINS ULTIMATE MSPA MADNESS THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT!
