Every nerve flared with eight-out-of-ten pain. Movement paused. Vision flashed to white, black, white again, and then back to normal. The sensation was gone, as though it had never been.
Jason gasped. The experience had lasted scarcely a tenth of a second. He stumbled, mostly because he had gone from climbing a 30 degree slope to roughly level ground mid step. His hands hit the ground, moist, deep, and rich beneath 40 centimeters of herbaceous plants.
"The heck?"
Sounds of startled wildlife surrounded him. Something built like a deer, but with no antlers and black fur mottled brown, bounded away. Its legs had two knees, and the lower one split into three: a tripod of feet on each limb.
Jason stood up. "What... where... how...?" Looking around, he saw that he was in the transition between a forest and a plain. A nearby stream ran out of the forest, joining a river that cut the plains in the distance. It was either mid morning or mid afternoon, by the sun. Fruit and flowers adorned many of the plants; probably early summer in a temperate climate. The transition zone was about 100 meters across where he stood. Half the horizon was flat, the other half obscured by trees. He failed to recognize a single species.
A flash and small thunderclap 15 meters away drew his attention. "Guess I'm not the only one."
((This is actually my first attempt at roleplaying. As of this writing, I know nothing more about the setting than what you see above. Feel free to collaborate on worldbuilding! I don't care where this goes, but would like to find out. Jason is human, in his 20s, and athletic, but you can describe his appearance if you want. Your character(s) need not be human. Or English-speaking for that matter. Totally up to you. Is there a universal translator here? What/where/when is "here", and will it be possible to find out? I don't know yet!))

Will Boeman Shook his head, shakily standing to his feet. He has shaggy brown hair and brown eyes, and stands somewhere around 5'10" with a firm-but-lanky build like that of a runner. He is wearing loose jeans, and a short-sleeve white T-shirt with brown sleeves and a brown pair of glasses emblazoned on the chest. he shakes his head once again, sweeping his vision around the area, seeing the harsh sunlight off to his right, and the deep shade of the canopy around him. He blinks a few times, mind finally finished processing all of the new information, and states, mouth agape: "What. The. fuck." He looks over, and his eyes finally focus on the other teen standing off to his left. He suddenly perks up slightly, eyes glinting and mouth growing a wide sm,ile, as he waves to the only other person in the are. "Hey dude! What's up?" He jogs over, and holds out his hand to his new compatriot. "The name's Will, friends call me Willy! You?" After greeting Jason and finishing the aforementioned handshake, Will looks around once again, hands going to his jean pockets and a small whistle escaping his lips. "Well, it's define tally beautiful. Any idea how we got here, or where here is for that matter?"

"Nope. I mean, probably teleportation, and not Earth." Jason Folbrey held up a hand, paused, put it halfway down. "I can hardly say that it happened at all, except for..." he gestures broadly. Jason is of mixed Central American and European descent. 6 feet tall, he has short black hair, grey eyes, and a slight beard. He wears jeans, tennis shoes, and a plain blue short sleeved T-shirt. A multitool and a 14 cm sheath knife hang from his belt. "Good place to be though, assuming we can eat the food."

"Well, I dunno about you, but I'm starving! Let's eat!" With a flourish, Will slides his hands past his hips, and in a flash a pair of holsters appears. He places his hands over the holsters, looks to Jason and winks. Then he flips the covers of the holsters up, and in another flash two pistols appear in the holsters, which he quickly draws and expertly shoots down two fruit from a nearby tree, which he dashes and goes to catch, replacing his pistols in the holsters where they disappear. He dives, and catches one of the fruits, moving too far and having the other bounce off of the small of his back and land at his feet. He stands up, rubbing the back of his head, and underhands the fruit that did not hit the ground over to Jason. Then picking his own up and raising it as if in toast, he takes a massive bite out of the juicy, yellow-with-red-swirls flesh. His eyes light up once more, and he gives a satisfied "yuuuuuuum!" noise before falling back against a tree, and continuing to eat the sweet-and-spicy fruit.

"Waste of ammo. We could be here a long while." Jason begins looking over the fruit. "Nice aim though." He cuts it open, revealing a smooth seed the size of a apricot pit. Satisfied it is meant to be eaten, he shrugs and takes a bite. "That is good." Another bite. "We should probably scout the area. Shelter and such."More people are welcome of course.

"Yeah, yeah I got it. Oh, and thank you." Will Walks toward the river, and looks into it, looking to see if there are any fish. "So, you think it'll just be the two of us, or are other people gonna suddenly fall from the sky or whatever the hell happened to us?" Will turns back around, disappointed at the lack of fish, and attempts to find a thin part of the river over which to cross to the other side. "Oh, and while we're searching, you got a way to defend yourself? I have extra pistols id you need 'em, and if your specibus allows."

A rustling is heard in the trees overhead. "Good to finally see some human faces," A girl, sitting nonchalantly on a tree branch a good ten feet from the ground, gazes at the two boys with her light green eyes. Taking a bite of the fruit she's holding, she takes her time to observe the two below her. The girl is small, at about 5'5", but well built, with light brown hair that reached her shoulders and almost reached her eyes. She is wearing a black t-shirt with a wolf howling to a moon and tight jeans. After swallowing the fruit, she gives the two an enthusiastic smile. "So are you two new to this world, or have I just not seen you yet?"

"Fuck, fuck, fuck.!" Kat landed in front of the two males rubbing her back. She had a head of wild strawberry curls and blue-green eyes she was about 5'3. "Sup?" She asked nonchalantly posing as if she meant to be on the ground.

Kanny peeked from behind a tree, observing the four humans with attention. Could he believe that there were other people in the same situation? Maybe they knew how they all got here in the first place? He ran a nervous hand though his light brown hair, asking himself whether he should go meet them. For all he knew, they could have been put in this world to fight each other, just like in those fiction stories! "This ought to be hard.", he told himself, readjusting his black hoodie. "Better make sure they aren't foes first." Staying hidden, he tried to get closer to the group of humans, wondering whether they were trustworthy or not.

A small young lad named Henry, blonde and with a face full of freckles, followed his even smaller NurseBot to wherever they were leading him. He had already tripped for four times since they found themselves in this place. It was good luck, he thought, that the two of them found a couple of folks searching for food. Henry studied these new faces for a moment, before nudging his NurseBot. They hovered forward. " Hello, do any of you know where this place is?" I refer to the NurseBot with singular they, but y'all are free to use she or he pronouns. These guys are made to be gender neutral.

Forming with a pop at a mere 4 dB in full view of the group, a sphere of 21 centimeter diameter takes spatial presence, hovering with no seen height variation. In appearance, it has been described as a sharply defined cloud of hues of purple and black, briefly interspersed with the barest of glimpses at complex and fractal patterns of blues and greens. After approximately one minute of performing no relative motion to the terrain, the sphere moves without apparent method of relocation, and aligns itself above the NurseBot. From this point, if not prevented, the sphere extends what appears to be a cord made of exactly the same material as itself, one and one half centimeters in diameter, directly downwards to the NurseBot. Upon contact, it will attempt to contact the NurseBot's computational systems with what is approximately, the following message:
"Are You An AI? Y/N"

"Mother of Starlight Blade...", said Kanny out loud, not caring anymore whether the others could hear him or not. "What the heck is this thing?" As the other humans were eyes locked on the phenomenon, he approached them from behind, silently, merging with the crowd without being seen. He tried to think about a rational explanation for what was happening. He failed miserably, and thoughts of anxiety rushed to his mind. Instinctively, he put a hand over his pocket, ready to take out his penknife if needed. He wondered whether the others could use weapons; if needed, he was ready to take action.

Another cord of the same size, shape, and material extends directly towards Kanny's upper forehead up to a length of 20 meters.
*If Kanny lets it touch, and nothing interferes with this, there will be a brief period of "white noise thoughts" injected, followed by "Are you aware? Y/N"
*If he changes location such that it is no longer aimed at him, or leaves its max distance, it will stop for 5 seconds, and then retract unless he puts himself back as he was.

As much as Kanny was scared, he felt like this was his only chance to understand what in the three planes of existence was going on. Breathing in, bracing himself, he let the weird floaty tentacle touch him. It stuck to his forehead with as much ease as if it were a power cord and he was an outlet. It didn't hurt at first, but then strange thoughts started to plague his mind. He tried to understand what he thought was a voice, tried to know where it was coming from or what it was saying. Kanny knew all the others were looking at him, wondering who was this guy and where did he come from and why was *he* taken as a target, but he couldn't care anymore. He had some experiences with weird alien mechanics, and knew how his own mind worked. Focusing his thoughts, he managed to break through the white noise, leaving the voice in his head speak clear words, in a language he didn't recognize at first, but understood all the same.
"Are you aware? Y/N", it asked.
Kanny tried to speak out, but failed. However, he managed to think out his answer clear enough.
"Yeah. I'm aware and everything."
He tried to form a question, but the voice in his head stopped, and the connection brutally ceased.

*Detecting the communication cutoff, the orb will attempt to reattach and strengthen the connection. As before, leaving its "valid area" will cause it to wait five seconds, and then retract. If it succeeds in reconnecting and holding the connection:
"You are everything? You are me? I am you? Several conflicting results detected, reanalyzing ..." . .. ... " 'Y/N' is incomplete system, reanalyzing ..." . .. ... "You are aware. You consider yourself to be of 'Full Thought'. Attempting Self-Identification." . .. ... "I am ''. Invalid result detected, reanalyzing ..." . .. ... "I do not know myself. Become ally? Provide known data on me? Assist in acquiring data on me? State desired goal, if you accept allying."

Kanny tried to understand what was going on. His head suddenly hurt, his thoughts were foggy and mangled. He couldn't think clearly anymore. Did the alien thing inserted some kind of brain poison into his head? What if their connection had severed his nerves? He didn't know what was this orb, where he was or who all of these people were. He didn't know anything anymore, and that made him scared. He had wanted to be calm and try to understand, as he had always done; but if he was going to feel pain, there was no point in it. He had given this thing a chance, and now he was going to destroy it, in a desperate attempt to get out of this fake world. Whatever was hurting him needed to be hurt as well: thus was his rule. He drew his penknife, a 10cm engraved blade, and tried to clear his mind, to ignore the pain. "Close your eyes.", he thought. "Breathe in, breathe out. Listen to your heartbeat. Don't think about danger and pain. Think about your goal. Destroy this thing." He opened his eyes. Focused on his goal, he ran towards the floaty orb, and with expert movement, thrust the blade straight into the cloudy ball.

As soon as Kanny's knife makes contact with the sphere's clouds, both cords will seem to retract so quickly as to make it uncertain to human eyes if they simply vanished, or were retracted at all. The sphere also immediately begins traveling along the same path at the same rate or faster than the blade, using details gathered from observing Kanny's muscle movement to predict this path. In doing so, the knife would probably not be able to be inserted much more than a barest minimum. Once Kanny's attack has finished, the sphere travels rapidly upwards, to the canopy above, while glowing a dim orange and "leaking?" some of the cloud it has to the surrounding environment, which begins to envelop one of the fruits.

Kanny breathed with relief as soon as the sphere was out of sight. However, his mind was still filled with worry and doubt. What if that contraption was some kind of entity that had gathered him and the other people here? Were they trapped in this world for some purpose? What if they had to kill each other? He looked at the others. Five humans and a small robot. They were looking at where the sphere had been, but they seemed sort of...frozen. They weren't moving, as if petrified on the spot. Was it another effect of the alien device?
"I guess it's only me, then.", he said. "Oh well. I'm used to it anyway."
He brushed away some of the cloudy gaz that the sphere had left in its trail, careful not to breathe any. Soon he realized a little of this haze was present all around, as if the device had leaked out. He had seen it envelop one of the weird little fruits he had seen earlier. Curious, Kanny went to pick it up, and examined it. Once he'd get his hands on some computer material, he could analyze it. For the moment, he simply stored the fruit in one of his many pockets. He decided to walk around this strange land. Coming from a similar world himself, he knew this place was artificial. He could feel how the trees, the stream, the grass were not natural. Some small animals ran away as he walked, and he tried to catch one, to no avail. He picked one of the peach-like fruits, sniffed it, then took a bite out of it. Tasted good enough. Whatever world he was in, it was a nice replica. One thought leading to another, he came to wonder what were the Rules of this universe. And naturally, how to break them.

--Some hours later...
Night as started to set over this land, and the other humans still haven't moved. Maybe they were dead, after all. Kanny had laid them down on the grass, after many pointless attempts at reviving them. A small fire was crackling in front of him, casting some light and warmth over their silhouettes. The wood from this land was easy to burn, and with a quick spell of Everfire it would last him a night. The smell of cooking squirrel meat was tickling his nose as he was looking around yet again, fearing the orb might come back, or something worse. But again, there was no one but silence, peppered with tiny sounds such as the howls of the wind, the chant of owls or the chirping of insects. Nothing but nature. Kanny took his roasted squirrel out of the fire, and bit into it. At least there was small game in this land, enough to last for a while, given he was going to stay alone. He had set aside part of his game meat in case the others would wake up, but he doubted they ever would. Oh well, that'd be more for him. While eating, he walked around some trees, around those he recognized, trying to find familiar spots. He was building a small territory, piece by piece. His territory, which no one would take away from him. In case he gets attacked again, he would need a base where to hide. If those humans were nice enough, maybe he'd share; else, they'd have to find their own turf elsewhere. He guessed this land had some limits. He was determined to find them, but he needed a starting point to his exploration. He needed weapons, supplies. If possible, he'd need a map of this place. Good thing he had his notebook, right in his pocket. He'd unravel the mystery of this world and why they were all here. While he was going back to the campfire, however, he didn't notice the shuffle in the bushes behind him.

The strange sphere rapidly positions itself above the bush, rushing from a position higher up, within the canopy, with a cord already extended from it upwards, that disappears into the mess of leaves. It then extends a 2 centimeter cord, and outputs light in a downwards cone shape from the cord end, essentially making a flashlight.

Every muscle in Kanny's body tensed as he heard the noise. He turned around, as quick as lightning, and darted his knife towards the light. one hand protectively shading his blue eyes. His senses got keener, his sharp instinct ready to attack as he recognized the spherical form before him.
"You...", he hissed.
He stuck a hand to his forehead, in case the thing were to attack his mind again. But it didn't seemed to move, only emitting a weird light he feared would hypnotize him. The bush moved again, then stopped shuffling all together. Kanny's focus was shifting from the bush to the sphere, not sure which would attack first. He adopted a fighting stance, ready to strike or defend. The sphere still hadn't moved. Kanny started to wonder what was the true nature of this contraption. Was it made to destroy humans? Some kind of evolved animal? A virus in the potential virtual simulation they were trapped in? He didn't know anything about it, and that made him scared. It had wanted to hurt him, despite his attempts to understand it. That's why it needed to be destroyed. Was it sentient? He needed to know that first.
"You...really have a thing for floating around, heh.", he snarled, trying to watch its reaction.
The sphere didn't move, its light staying at the same intensity. Confident, he took one step forward. Its cloudy surface looked like colored mist. Kanny wondered whether it was corporeal or not. Taking another step, he slowly tried to reach out to the device, ready to slice any cord that would grab his head again. The bush suddenly moved again. A second later, Kanny felt a violent pain striking his stomach. His head hit the ground with a loud noise, and something in his chest hurt, as if an animal was digging its claws into him. Some kind of bizarre, dangerous creature that would pin him down and growl menacingly, its jaws ready to bite his head. Curiously, this scenario was the one happening right now. The beast looked like some big feline, with dark fur and two tails. And it wasn't happy at all. Kanny tried to fight back and escape the animal's grip, but its claws were digging into him, making blood draw out. As it tried to bite, he grabbed its jaws and tried to hold them as far from his face as possible, dropping his knife, feeling the claws deeper into his skin. His fear reached levels he never thought were possible. He tried to wriggle away from its deadly grip, to kick the predator away, but it was too heavy, and didn't budge an inch. Talk about "fighting skills"!
"Hey, you!", Kanny shouted in direction of the idle sphere. "You really gonna stand here while I'm being attacked? Do something!!"
Oh boy.

The green and white beneath the clouds of the sphere begin to shine, as three separate cords rapidly extend to the feline.
The first rapidly wraps around it, squeezing and tightening along all points it can. The second begins wrapping around only the limbs and chest, pulling the feline upwards rapidly. The third waits for the feline to be disconnected from Kanny, before electrocuting the feline.
The electrocution process is powerful enough to be sensed as magical in origin. *By those with such senses.

Henry moved once more, and so did his assistant. The machine made several beeps and boops- confused noises. They were incapable of analyzing the current situation.
The young boy was very afraid, he didn't understand what was happening either. It was fight, flight, or freeze for him. And he chose the last of those.

Kanny tried to catch his breath and process what was going on. He saw the cords, the beast being dragged away from him; one second later, he sensed a powerful wave of magical energy attack the creature. Jerking back, he got on his feet again, picking up his knife, ready to attack. His free hand clasped around the pocket where his notebook was. If needed, he'd summon a better weapon. But the beast seemed to be weaker than whatever the sphere was doing, and Kanny felt its life force wavering. Another couple of seconds passed, before the magic ceased. The feline's carcass fell on the ground, smelling of burnt fur and grilled meat. The cords of the sphere retracted into it, and it started beeping again.
"Mother of Starlight Blade..."
To make sure the animal was terminated, Kanny grabbed his knife, and plunged it into its thorax, opening a large gash into the black fur, exposing its ribcage. Its heart wasn't beating; relieved, he sighed a little, before realizing he was bleeding himself, where the beast had clawed. Luckily, it wasn't too deep. He looked at the floaty orb, trying to decide what to do with it. It had...actually helped him? Was it a friend after all? But it did hurt him before... He tried to answer himself, but he sensed something behind him. He turned around, and saw the blonde boy had moved, as well as its robot.
"Hey.", he tried to call, wondering whether the kid could understand him. "Are you alright?"
Of course, with his bloodstained knife and torn up allure, he wasn't very reassuring. But he hoped the human wouldn't matter. He tried to approach him, still wary of the sphere behind, but relieved the others weren't dead after all.
