yo nonevah , I started reading Homestuck when it was first released, because I transitioned from the end of Problem Sleuth. I actually found it quite boring at first and stopped reading fairly early on. After I got back in again we were pretty deep into Act 5, and since then it's been kind of on and off every couple of months I wasn't exactly an active community member, though I did have a forum account. I think a lot of the fandom just lurks like I usually do. I was doing work on Hiveswap when Andrew asked me to try to rebuild the forums, so it wasn't really out of the blue. I can't really seem to parse the last bit of your message there... I agree that you should probably get some sleep

Listen, this might sound crazy, but sometimes you need a clean sheet, you know? I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, but this place is weirdly better than the old forums, that's why I joined here. I don't know what it is, but the old forums were sorta messy. Even if they do come back, I don't want the old posts to recover. Sorry if I sound crazy.

Hey, a lot of good (or at least amusing) arguments were lost with those old Classpect threads.

I'd want it back if only for the fact that it let me look into the past of MSPA's community...

Having the archives restored would be nice, but I will admit I was NOT a fan of the way they had the forum organized.

Meh, it's been a while. The fact that most of the Off-topic stuff got removed from the site for no discernible reason as far as I could tell was a sore sticking point, and for the time I was there, things just didn't seem to... flow? I dunno. Point is the entire place felt like a little bit of a catastrophe when I tried to jump on to the original site, so I didn't wind up sticking around for long.
Although, I guess I may have joined up at a bad time or something, but the point still stands. Whatever the cause is, I feel like the administration of Omega Update is a bit better than that of the mspaforums were.

There are a lot of old threads that I would like to see back Also while the staff team made a lot of godawful decisions they were also a lot stricter on enforcing the rules about making people uncomfortable and were proactive about closing threads which were clearly going to be godawful or at least watching them with beady staring eyes which, no offence to this board's mod team, I think was for the best (and to be fair to them, it was mostly the admins making the shitty decisions and the mods doing the good work :v)
That said the mod team in the new forum is going to be different anyway, that one's not coming back

Eh, that's a fair point. I suppose a fair number of us are still apprehensive about having to jump forums AGAIN, which was disruptive enough the first time.

Well, in any case, you are actually getting what you want, because the old forums aren't coming back. A new forum is on its way, with a clean sheet. And the old posts, that is a different matter. In any case, I'm glad to hear you're liking it over here! I am merging this with the general MSPA Forums thread though, it's basically the go-to place for any discussions about the fate of the old forums. There are a lot of old threads that I would like to see back Also while the staff team made a lot of godawful decisions they were also a lot stricter on enforcing the rules about making people uncomfortable and were proactive about closing threads which were clearly going to be godawful or at least watching them with beady staring eyes which, no offence to this board's mod team, I think was for the best (and to be fair to them, it was mostly the admins making the shitty decisions and the mods doing the good work :v) No offense taken! I am aware we are much less strict in this place. My main intention when I created this place was a temporary refuge where us fans could gather to discuss Homestuck in the absence of the official forums, the rules were always only secondary to that. But as time went on and the forums weren't immediately coming back after a few days, it obviously became clear that rules were becoming more important here so that things could keep being fun and not cluttered.

It's great! I hate strict places. Holy shit, let people post what they want, what is this, Guanta- okay, that joke was way too far.

Anything we're able to recover from the old forums is pretty much just going to be for archive purposes, yeah. Fresh conversations all around! I don't think another blank slate is necessarily gonna be a bad thing when the time finally comes to swap this forum for the new one, the most annoying thing to try and recreate on the new forums would probably be the in-progress roleplays and forum adventures. There are pros and cons to strict vs lenient enforcement of rules. Some people like places where they have the freedom and flexibility to say basically whatever they want (often including being as rude as they want), while some people like for things to be more structured and polite. Sometimes what's fun for one person can ruin someone else's fun, so it's a tough balance to strike! In my experience, smaller forums seem to be better at self-regulating and settling disputes on a small scale, so they don't require as much rule enforcement to run smoothly. Bigger forums, on the other hand, have so many people posting that they're more likely to escalate badly if a conversation takes a bad turn, and off-topic tangents can quickly result in pages of conversations that have nothing to do with whatever the thread is about, so they require a lot more diligent monitoring to keep that from happening. I think I personally prefer something in the middle, which is part of why I've personally been so much more hands-off on Omegaupdate vs the older forums... but if there's anything I've learned from moderating it's that no matter what approach you take, someone's going to complain about it Contrary to what a lot of people seem to think, a (good) moderator's goal is to try and help other people have better and friendlier conversations for the sake of the greater health of the community, not to maliciously keep people from enjoying themselves for the sake of power or whatever.

My mod method at the moment is "If I happen to see it on the handful of threads I follow, okay, otherwise, hopefully someone will report it so I can notice it."

Technically speaking, they didn't delete existing RP posts, just locked the section so no new posts could be made there, so all your posts were still there (of course, they were all lost with the rest of the forum when the site went down, but that was a seporate issue). Granted, I still think it was stupid that they closed it, but they didn't go that far.

Granted, I still think it was stupid that they closed it, but they didn't go that far. As I recall they started off by either perma-locking or deleting the usual RP spot, the cafe, so that was basically what I was referring to. Then they had that mess with the sub-sub-forum until that also got locked for whatever reason.

It's been a while since I've been on here. So there's going to be a new forum soon? I guess it's better than nothing, except it will be annoying to move again. I'm still quite upset that we've lost the old forums though, since so much history has been gone. I was going to go through the old vriska topics and MSPA Discussion topics as early as 2010 when the comic finished, and that's never going to happen. To be honest every time I go on a new forum I always get cautious of what to do and not what do do, since the first forum I went on and stayed on for many years was very laid back in it's rules, so I grew used to that. The site didn't even had mods because the admin believed they could handle the forums on there own. So because of that I do prefer forums that are more laid back since it's what I'm used to. I don't mind forums that are more stricter though, as long as it's not Warrior Cats forums levels where 'lotion' and 'BS' are censored, which is just ridiculous.

This is outrageous! I demand a full refund for my time if such heavyhanded measures are to be enforced! How else am I to express for my need to moisturize my hands, or let somebody know I have a Bachelor's in Science?
