I think MSPA Forums is completely dead now. Not coming back. RIP MSPA Forums, 2007-2016

Who needs the old forums when you guys made this place? Great job, everyone involved. Time to lurk months worth of content.

I mean, he's not wrong. I'm sure there'll be a forum, eventually. By now though it's going to essentially be a completely different community. People moved on and stopped waiting months ago.

well yeah, but its not like the old mspaf was an extremely stable community in the first place. like "prehistoric pre-homestuck `mspaf`" "height of hivebent mspaf" and "gigapause mspaf" were very different places.

I just hope to someday recover the stuff I had on there.

Some of it is saved on the wayback machine.
I mean, it would be nice to have an archive of it but if they fix the forums i think they HAVE to make them a blank sheet. I'd be especially happy if people either 1) mostly stayed or 2) mostly moved because two forums actively is just too much for me, personally. and i really like our community.

,Regardless of what happens, as long as we have a community, I am happy!

I'd be especially happy if people either 1) mostly stayed or 2) mostly moved because two forums actively is just too much for me, personally. and i really like our community. To prevent exactly that from happening, my plan is that when the new forums are finally here I'm locking most of the forum except for people's projects/adventures (unless they decide to move to the new forums and give permission to lock their threads), so that people can move on to the new forums, while at the same time not forcing any of the creative endeavours on here to start over on a new forum with a new thread and possibly lose followers through the move if they don't want to move.

Can you please lock it down and not just delete it? There's stuff I really like and when the new forums come, it's better if people can see where some threads began.

Yeah I realized "shut down" was probably not really the right word to use so I changed it to "lock" immediately.
But to be perfectly clear, my intentions are to simply lock all threads (except for projects/adventures unless the creator gives permission) and leave it like that. Which means that all content that was put on this forum continues to be visible, you just can't contribute new content anymore. I'm not going to delete anything nor am I going to make anything unvisible.

It's really admirable of you to lay your ego down like that and just give the reigns back to MSPA. I hope the entire admin/modmin team gets transferred over as a sign of good faith.

I mean... it's not like he's holding the user base hostage or anything. People are presumably going to go to the new forum regardless. There's no reigns to hand over.
It's a sensible approach but I think maybe you are overstating its importance here a little.

I think it took a lot to start the forum, get everyone together, handle guests in a reasonable way, and maintain it for months on end is important. It's hard work and I think it's worth stating, not overstating, that it would be a BIG help to MSPA as a whole in getting everyone started on the new forums, whenever they may come. I can definitely imagine alternative scenarios where the mods could get a sense of ownership over the community, I've seen it happen elsewhere and I guess I am a bit jaded in that regard. It's genuinely surprising to me to see how well it's going to be handled.

Some of it is saved on the wayback machine. Neither of the threads I'm looking for were. Too old or something I think. Sure, that makes sense, and sounds like what's happening. I just hope the posts from the old forums are recoverable in some way, because that's my personal need out of this whole fiasco. It's possible I'm of an insignificant minority and/or otherwise SOL, and I'll deal with it if so, but I can hope.

Unfortunately, if it isn't in the Wayback Machine or cached by Google or Bling, it's almost certainly gone for good. As someone in a very similar boat, it's definitely a staggering blow, but there doesn't seem to be much if anything to do for it now.

It's genuinely surprising to me to see how well it's going to be handled. I think that's due to the fact that everyone involved in this transition is ultimately doing it out of a genuine love for the MSPA fandom that we've been a part of for years Blaperile and Phillip are honestly both really good people, let alone the other people working on the forums behind the scenes. Neither of the threads I'm looking for were. Too old or something I think. Sure, that makes sense, and sounds like what's happening. For the time being yeah, but the plan is still to eventually make the archived forum data accessible in some way IF at all possible. Again, unfortunately it's not entirely up to us. I know the waiting sucks (trust me, we don't like it any more than you guys do) but the next few months are going to be eventful in the MSPA universe regardless, so we'll see what the future holds...!

It's genuinely surprising to me to see how well it's going to be handled. That's one of the nicest compliments I have ever received, thank you so much! Like memento vivere said, I've done all of this out of love for MSPA and its fandom. MSPA has had an enormous impact on my life ever since I first started reading it, this is the least I could do. I just could not IMAGINE going through the end of Homestuck without the forums and all these people I've met during the past years. It just wouldn't have been the same. So when I saw the forums hadn't come back after two days of being down, I just didn't want to take any risks and made this forum, and I'm so glad I did. Despite the very, very mixed reactions to Collide and Act 7, the fact that so many people were together for it and we all went through it together made it all worth it, for me. So many people signed up for these forums before those flashes came out, more than I could have possibly dreamed. And even now so many people keep coming. That being said, NOT "giving the reigns back to MSPA" was never an option to me. I created this forum with exactly that thought in my mind. A temporary refuge to support the fandom before the official forums take it back over, that's all I ever wanted. As for "the entire admin/modmin team getting transferred over", well... at least when we start out on the new forums, not this entire team will be moderators or admins on there, that's for sure. But we'll see what the future brings! I can at least say that I personally think Sharkalien, Wesley Foxx and memento vivere have all done an amazing job as moderators on here and that I'm so grateful they helped me out with this.

Haha I haven't done anything except lock/scrub one spam thread and be the last person to show up every time a post is reported. :V I mean, he's not wrong. I'm sure there'll be a forum, eventually. By now though it's going to essentially be a completely different community. People moved on and stopped waiting months ago. I mostly am sad that I lost my adventures. Partially because of how much work I put into them that I can never recover, and partially because I never finished any of them.

Thanks for everything, Blaperile, Sharkalien, Mementovivere and Wesley Foxx. You guys are doing a great job here and I'll be pretty sad when you'll stop being Mods on the new forums.

cant believe i snagged this username Err, not sure what you mean. If you mean that was also your username on the old forums and you mean you're glad you got the same username and want to introduce yourself, then I think you might be looking for this thread.
