WORD BATTLE!
A game where you battle enemies. With words.
-----------------
A game where you battle enemies. With words.
-----------------
Rules:
To play, simply take the four-letter word in the previous post and change one letter to make a new word, reshuffling letters as neccesary.
Example: Leap => Pear
Then, use that word as the basis of your attack on the enemy.
Example: I throw a PEAR at Evil Nepeta.
You'll do extra damage if you can incorporate both the new word and the previous one in your attack.
Example: I LEAP towards Evil Nepeta and smash her in the face with my PEAR.
All attacks can be only one sentence long.
Everyone gets one attack per update.
Damage is determined by:
-Amount of shuffling done
Example: Leap => Pail will do more damage than a simple replacement like Leap => Reap.
-Rarity of word/letters
Example: Leap => Zeal will do more damage than Leap => Teal, as Z is a less common letter than T. (Going by scrabble values here)
-Creativity of attack, and making interesting use of your word.
Example: "I throw a PAIL at Evil Nepeta." will do less damage than "I hold up a PAIL and waggle my eyebrows at Evil Nepeta, disgusting her and freaking her out."
Words that have shown up recently will do less damage.
Finally, make sure your attack is actually related to your word in some way, don't just use it as random sentence filler.
Example: "Leap => Pear
After LEAPing up and down on a trampoline for a minute, I pull out a missile launcher and shoot Evil Nepeta in the face."
This will not do much damage.
The connection has to be there, though it can be weird, silly or indirect. The more weird, silly and indirect the better, actually.
Example: "Leap => Pear
I LEAP onto the back of my fruit-hating dinosaur mount and give him a PEAR, urging him into mad bloodlust."
Note that actual logic plays no part; as long as you can shoehorn your word into some kind of antagonistic action, you'll be doing damage, regardless of the damage that action would "actually" do. Spitting on the enemy can do just as much damage as smashing the moon on them.
EDIT: Word Alchemy explanation:
(I may add some more complexity later, possibly with HP for players, some enemy abilities and "power levels" with 5 and 6 letter words or something, but for now I want to keep it simple to gauge interest. Mostly I want to see how this idea pans out, without disturbing the original "4 letters only" game. I will update this as frequently as I can. For now, this is a fairly casual game, so don't worry too much about missing updates.)
So, with that out of the way, let's begin!
An insidious Mario appears! Those cold, dead eyes, those too-bright teeth, the unsettling quiver of his mustache; you know that he will offer no mercy. The insipid plumber will not stop until he has taught you absolutely everything there is to know about typing. Casting around desperately, you are able to find a single STAR to aid in your battle.

EDIT: Word Alchemy explanation:
You can now perform basic word alchemy by combining the two previous words, changing one letter, then creating a 5-letter word from the combined selection of letters.
Example:
Player 1: Cart => Part
Player 2: Uses word alchemy. They now have the letter pool "C, R, T, A, P" to work with. ("Cart" has a C, "Part" has a P, and they both have A, R, and T.) They change "P" to "E", then make the word "CRATE".
Each letter in the mix can only be used once. You aren't adding the two words together, you're looking at all the different letters they have between them. "TAROT", for example, would not have been a valid word, as "T" can only be used once, unless you decide to change one of the other letters into a T. "APART", on the other hand, would be fine, as you can change "C" for an "A". ("CRTAP" => "ARTAP"). Tl;dr, you are NOT adding the letters of both words together, you are taking the letters they have between them. The letter pool you get initially will not have doubles in it at this stage.
After a player uses alchemy, the next player (for now) has the option of continuing with another 5-letter word, or going back down to 4 letters.
Example:
Player 2: Cart <=> Part = Crate
Player 3: Can continue with 5 (Eater), or go back down to 4 (Late)
For now, word alchemy cannot be used with 5-letter words.
For now, word alchemy cannot be used on words with double letters (TART, POOL, etc.).
Alchemized words carry a high bonus, (*) and 5-letter words created afterwards will do slightly more damage than 4-letter ones.
For now, critical hits cannot be used with alchemy. (I mean, you can use one of the previous words if you want, but it will carry no extra bonus beyond the alchemy bonus.)
Alchemy may have other uses later, but for now it simply gives you 1 mana when used.
