You are AUTISTIC and require Mango with you most of the time. You tend to rock back and forth on your heels when you're nervous or stressed. Your ROOM is as CLEAN as you can make it. Oh, you also enjoy TIME TRAVEL. The concept has really intrigued you and you hope that one day humanity can reach it. You are covered in SCARS constantly hidden by your TRUSTY HOODIE. Someone is pestering you. What will you do? FANDOM FACTS: Viral Nation is a dystopian post-apocalyptic book series written by Shaunta Grimes.
I'm not too far in the series (I haven't touched book 2 in MONTHS) but it's by far one of my favorites.
The main character is Clover Donovan, and like our little fandom kiddo here, is autistic (and that is a really well portrayed factor of her!) and has a guide dog named Mango. A virus killed off most of their society at one point in their lives and she was given the cure as a baby, though she still has virus scars (so does her brother, West). Her father is an executioner, killing those who break laws.
She signs up for a school and doesn't make it, but is taken up by a large company who is behind the executions.
SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES BEYOND THIS POINT:
It turns out the nearby lake is a portal to the future, but only those with autism can go in and out of it via submarine or diving gear. They check who has committed crimes, then go back to the present and kill whoever committed those crimes so it never actually happens.
Clover panics when she discovers her brother was one of those people, and she runs away with a group of orphans and hides.
She also discovers the cure for the virus that they take daily is not actually needed anymore. The cure was only needed to take once, but because they didn't know that up until a child was allergic to it, they gave citizens dosages daily. It became addictive.
Now Clover's hellbent on releasing the truth and rebelling against the company that controls their lives. |

There are two roads going through either side of the town. You know this. The one on the right is always there, it's always packed. The one on the left... you never see anyone on it. Does it even exist? What is it called? You don't know. It goes through a strange, dark tunnel and you can't see the end of it. Sometimes it disappears. Or is it just never there? Oh well. |
