Well, this sub-forum sure looks barren and dead! Such a shame to see such a thing. Let's at least get a thread going to try and encourage others to join in, eh?
Along those lines, let's create a general chat thread about role-playing. Or, even better yet, a general chat thread about acting in general, as I'd imagine that'd be the general thrust of roleplaying anyways. Perhaps costume advice and the like too could be a thread, who knows!
So, assuming that you are a someone who enjoys roleplaying the characters, have you done acting as well? What sort of acting have you done?
In high school, I only became interested in acting my senior year. And that is such a shame as the one high school play I got to play in was so much fun! I think if I had realized how much I loved acting earlier in high school, things would have gone quite a bit different in high school for me. The one play I've played in was in Macbeth. I played the murderer who got to stab Banquo. I think I was chosen due to my talent in coming off as creepy as possible. As the director said "you sound creepy, but in a good way."
What are your acting experiences? Why do you choose to roleplay? Share fun stories, etc...

I first got to roleplaying on the Nook, unfortunately, it soon died out. But I found another community that roleplayed, but that, sadly, died out as well.
My favorite experience is the first RP I participated in that had an actual plot, Key Holder 2. It was never finished, but it was really fun!

I really love roleplaying. I have an RP blog, it (the tone/theme) alternates between a surrealistic comedy and a sci-fi-ish mystery. My first RP experience was on a forum for preteens and I was like, what? Nine years old? It's dead.
Also yes I perform monologues sometimes. I get perfect scores.

Roleplaying's pretty cool, but I have yet to do so publicly - whether it's through a blog or on a forum thread. While it does sound fun, my main worry is becoming sidetracked and/or forgetting about it. I may try it sometime, though. Maybe if any threads show up here and catch my interest. Not sure.
As for acting, I've never done anything formal, but a lot of my jokes usually relate to some sort of acting or persona. So I can see myself being decent at it, if I were to ever try it out.

Oh hey, I guess this subforum is allowed to exist on this site. I first started roleplaying back on MSPAF's Trollslum in 2011 (it's what the Collab/RP section was called before it was altered and later locked), joining Sburb RPs and a few other things. So I'm glad to see this is a thing.
I remember the Trollslum Genchat thread in its prime. So many bandwagons, memes, and other silly projects applied to an army of fantrolls and other RP characters on a near-daily basis. I wonder if this thread will ever serve that purpose.
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it... On the chance that this subforum gets popular, I wonder if it will be populated mainly by fantrollers running Sburb RPs, other Homestuck-related content, or full-blown OCs in original stories.

I'm actually thinking of doing a freestyle troll RP, but I wasn't sure if I should leave it plotless to allow character plots and development, or if I have to give it a plot.

Ah, Roleplaying....Such a dramatic history.... Anyway, I first started roleplaying back in middle school (Dark times for us all) on a quaint little site known as Warrior Cat Clans 2 (Apparently the first one died or something.),an RP site based in the Warriors book series about feral cats, by Erin Hunter. It was also the first forum I was ever a part of and man, was it an obsession of mine. I actually ended up running a Clan of my own (CreekClan 4 Lyfe) but it eventually got shut down . I was there for the Great Split. Where the site split in to two halves, but I'm pretty sure the original is the only one that exists now, if it even still exists. (Man, all those memories...I have so many emotions about it.) I don't really go on there anymore. For a while, I kinda floated around in RP nebulousness. I found a couple of groups on occassion, but most of my rping between then and now was done with pairs of people and the occassional group thing on DeviantArt or LiveJournal or even Skype. It was a big part of high school life, lemme tell you. But then i got into Homestuck and I found great sites in MSPARP and Cherubplay to frequent. Got some quality stuff there. So yeah, I have a lot of RPing experience.

The first time I ever roleplayed was just about in the beginning of middle school, when I was very into a anime called Mirai Nikki. Looking at music videos, I saw some people roleplaying as characters of said anime, and I decided to join them. It was cringy, edgy, and we just had no idea what we were doing. Eventually, I left due to a NSFW scandal. After that, I started playing a MMORPG called Champions Online, and quickly rose to level 40, the maximum level. After that, I decided to hang out on the bars meant for roleplaying, and it was pretty fun until I regretted making a female character due to some really cringy shit. I made a robot character later, did a bunch of other stuff, lost interest (plus was miffed that you needed to waste money for customization) and left. Hanging out on the forums of a game I was looking forward to (Starbound), I found a roleplay about monstergirls, and I joined. Nothing bad happened and we all had a lot of fun, but we later moved to a forum of our own and it died. I still roleplay on the side with people, but not as much as I did before. I miss roleplaying a lot with people

Writing more than 3 paragraphs at a time is difficult and I prefer being short and sweet. I am not descriptive and have a very tiny vocabulary.

Hello all! I'm Mercy Davis, and I've been rping for years and years, now. I am a high school junior at a fancy academy for the arts in Northern Michigan, where I study creative writing. I work mainly in fiction and poetry.
Prose has gotten me used to big casts of characters, and let me tell you. I have a whole lot of characters. Last time I counted them all, I had eighty something that had been given some amount of thought and development. Ask me about them! I probably have at least one who'd mesh well with yours. That being said, I have three and a half well developed worlds, and then stories that take place in none of those. Ask me about my whole "Victorian women hiding the fact that they have giant tarantula legs under their hoop skirts" trope. I'm rather fond of it.
I also take a huge interest in history, historical fashion and other such things. I studied Latin for two years, Chinese for two years and I'm in the process of learning Portuguese. I can also effectively get around in Italian. Or... At least I can insult somebody to the point where they slap me in Italian.
When it comes to rp, I am very experienced and very flexible. I first started seriously rping in 2012, I've taught people how to rp, and on the website Disqus I am one of two mods of the channel RP&G, which is devoted to rps centered around one world: Uallowenor. I created Uallowenor, and the channel has over 2000 followers. It's insane, and I love it.
I can match your post length and depth. Generally, I am very, very character centric. I care more about tensions and emotions and dynamics than I do about plot, as fun as good plot lines can be. Like, if you're a broody vampire who hates him/her/xir self and his/her/xir immortality, I'll probably throw my character Lucy at you, because she works well with vampires in that she's immortal, and tends to piss them off in that she finds no angst in said immortality.
As for Homestuck rp... Well, Homestuck is what got me into rp, really. I can rp as a variety of canon characters, specializing mainly in ancestors, and I have a couple of lovable fantrolls, as well.
So, yeah! Talk to me!

Portuguese? What kind? Brazilian Portuguese I can teach you with some degree of success, as it is my first language due to living in Brazil. I don't have long lasting OCs. What OCs I do have are for specific RPs only. Maybe one day I'll make a standalone OC. My idea for one is a robotic girl. I can't RP any of the canon characters. Mostly because they don't mesh well with me, so I can't quite do them well. I've done Fefeta once, and I roleplayed a decent Karkat once as well, but that's about it. Haha, immortality angst is so frequent. Like, you know, I wouldn't be sad if I was immortal, because everyone I love would die anyways, and I don't attach myself to people for too long (with the exception of only one person, but I'll move on from it)

I have a LOT of standalone OCs, some I also use for roleplaying. Some of my most prominent is my Umbreon OC Destra (often used with her sister, Leafeon OC Daisy), Grovyle OC Foresan, and Mixels OC Paradox.
Though I understand making OCs right on the spot for RPs, and I in fact do it all the time.

Yeah, I'll definitely make a standalone OC someday. Not now, however. They won't be part of any specific media/fandom, though. I don't like that.

I think I'd be more comfortable participating in off-topic stuff, even though this is a Homestuck forum...

Yeah, this is a homestuck fandom, but I usually tend to join RPs that aren't related to any media in particular. Only genres. I did join a homestuck RP and am enjoying it, but mostly because I wanted to try something new.

Been meaning to try a RP that actually has a determined ending for a while. Most of the RPs I have participated are freeform hangout RPs like the troll one we had a while ago, with no certain ending. Those tend to get stale after a while.

Yeah. I tend to prefer an RP that has a larger overarching structure to it.

I heavily prefer RPs based on a specific fandom or media, especially ones I'm familiar with. Though I have participated in general roleplays.

My first ever experience in roleplaying was on Gaia way back in grade school, though when I started getting "serious" with it was when I got my own WoW account in high school. I took a year of theatre arts, and I'd like to pursue some kind of voice acting career but I'm a bit stuck in that regard.

I'm not gonna do theatre like ever. Not because I'm nervous (I'm kind of known at my school for being one of the few people who don't get stage fright frequently) but because I can't act physically and I'm too lazy to bother. My voice is also too weird so screw voice acting either. The most likely career I will get is writing or something (I want to pursue something on the field of science, but that's unlikely), but first I need to stop being lazy and start writing more than a few paragraphs at a time.
I said my first experience at roleplaying was in some edgy anime roleplay. This is wrong, actually. My first roleplaying experience was in a gaia online barely known game called Wired (or some other name, I can't even remember)

Sorry for double post and necropost this a bit... but I was thinking of making a bit of a freeform RP with a collisseum type thing in which characters with whatever abilities (so long as they were reasonable) fought. I know quite a few people in my roleplaying group love roleplaying out fights, and usually a lot of characters I make in roleplays tend to have combat abilities but don't use them a lot, so that'd be quite interesting. I wouldn't participate as a combatant, of course, I'd participate as the host, and I'd probably allow people to make multiple characters (maybe a new one for each tournament?) simply because the amount of people who roleplay compared to the amount of people who don't roleplay is small, and I think it'd be pretty interesting.
How do you guys feel about that?

It seems like a good idea. But fighting in a RP doesn't seem very practical, between participants who forget to post, those who drop out, and such. Unless it's turn-based, where it could be used with the forum format and pose less problems. Questions of damage inflicted, critical hits and miss can be solved by dice rolling. (It's very DnD but that'd leave opponents a chance and avoid marysueing attacks.) But if you want full-fledged, instant reaction combat, you'll need to find invested regulars to take part.
