The fact that a topic had been off topic for literally months is justification to lock it, not a reason to leave it alone >_> The new topic that was made once an actual new game came out was so much better and more focused and less fractious that it was pretty clearly a good move to close that thing during the big gap between games that was going on there. Speaking of "off-topic" though... is it getting to the point where this topic might as well be locked until there's any news? Talking shit about moderators who aren't here isn't really relevant to the forum being shut down. I think this whole thread is for theories and info as to why mspaforums shut down. Here, we're pretty making theories in our minds for why it happened or who did it. As for the mods and admin being banhappy. Well hopefully that's an issue that gets fixed when the forums come back, and I'd encourage people to stop putting up with bans or jailings for minor stuff or unjustified reasons. The community ain't going to be doing too well when mods or admins decide to be dicks. |

Yeah, i think this thread has gotten a bit off-topic. I'm not fond of bitchfest. We all have beef against certain people, but this really isn't the place for those kinds of discussions, I think.

Personally I think a new topic to that end would be in pretty bad taste, I don't think anyone's actually saying anything constructive here and is merely bitching about people who can't defend themselves in a forum where those people won't see what they are saying, but as long as it's not in this topic I guess that's fine.
I'm not a moderator either though.

As someone who was and is one, I would certainly appreciate if people wouldn't continue to hold a grudge about the mistakes of a bunch of volunteers, especially when those people can't defend themselves.

Going by what some people have said here some of them were not mistakes. How do you think we feel? Some of us weren't really given a chance to defend ourselves or let alone change our ways by being warned. I respect what you do and and I appreciate it. But this is just a few people who got banhappy, never warned us, and jailed or banned us over really minor stuff. It's not even a grudge, I just want to see some of these admin or mods drop the attitude and actually be fair about banning or jailing people. Or just not ban people over stuff that could be ignored or given a warning hence it's minor. |

Especially since any evidence for or against the wrongdoing and whatnot has been lost to the internet void. I'd gladly check the infraction record and see what you did and why they infracted you for it but the mod forum didn't get internet archived.

I was still very much under the impression that Softowl was in charge until it was revealed by several people that no one knew who was in charge. So, yeah. I think she just kinda left without leaving a successor or and means for the team to fix things. So had to join here as the same username again because the waiting for the regular forum to come back up seems to be taking too long if it ever does come back that is. Also only discover this place from another forum in the last week and was too busy with finales until today. I hope the forum returns in some form eventually.

It wasn't public knowledge at all, but yes, the modmins were aware that she would no longer be able to serve as admin. Pretty much all of her skype/tumblr/twitter/etc accounts have been abandoned so I honestly haven't talked to her since, but from the people who ARE in contact with her it's my understanding that she's doing well. Go easy on her though... I don't want to discuss the details, but this wasn't at all a case of her going "lol fuck you guys I'm OUT". I will just say that being a moderator or admin is an extremely thankless job (or rather, unpaid volunteer position) and most everyone on the modmin team was trying their best. I myself almost quit the forum community completely because of the rude shit people would say to me in PMs because they were SO insulted by their one-point infraction that would go away in a month. Probably MOST people who got infracted expressed that they were being treated unfairly even when they were clearly breaking the rules, and you would be surprised at the number of people who even take issue with the notion of enforcing the rules AT ALL. Yes, people totally make mistakes, and people get snappy when they're frustrated, and sometimes there were decisions made by other modminds that I didn't fully agree with... so I'm sorry if anyone felt they were treated unfairly, and I think those feelings are probably justified in some cases. However, that doesn't justify people continually ranting about real human beings who are not here to defend themselves. If you felt the old forums were an environment of negativity and want to change that, I would recommend leading by example by not bringing that negativity to the new forums. It is neither positive, kind, or relevant, so we absolutely do not need a thread to further bash people. It is also worth noting that a rule of the forums is still Yes Respect. This includes being respectful of people who are not here. |

I never had any real direct contact with Softowl myself, but in her defense, I seem to recall reading somewhere that at least most of her more overbearing rulings were due to her feeling a (prolly non-existant) responsibility to maintain a PG13 atmosphere in the community, safe for highschool computer lab browsing level. IIRC of course. Forum isn't ever coming back tbh Yeah, hard a pill as it is to swallow, it's prolly best to assume this until we get some official word one way or the other. |
