I meant mostly the bit where he described specifically what he defined as an *adventure* (Something where you dont know everything thats going to happen), but yeah< I agree. Its important to recognise that a *Forum* adventure has the "DM" also control all the chracters

Anyone know a good way to save the forum pages for offline storage. I want to make sure my adventure isnt lost if worse comes to worse For starters I recommend looking at all the pages with The Wayback Machine just to make sure it's cached somewhere, and then make sure to keep the html text saved in a program like notepad or sublimeText.

It looks like, addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/shelve/For Firefox looks like the best easy solution. (The pages only work in Firefox, but hey it's better than nothing!) You could save it in a Dropbox folder that will automatically sync! It's really worth that extra effort. I think Firefox saves the images too! If that doesn't work, I would search for: "How to scrape website" "How to crawl and download html files" or "How to save webpages automatically" But before I did that, I would ask in the MSPFA thread! Who would know better than the person who runs the backups? Maybe they have a script they can give you. Also, since this is a technical problem, you should try to be really specific, there could be a dozen possible solutions. (The easiest or best formatted or scraped off the website as you input stuff)

Has anyone ever made a fanventure without some kind of skill in art? trying to do the same, but I can tell it might be difficult

Has anyone ever made a fanventure without some kind of skill in art? trying to do the same, but I can tell it might be difficult If you mean fanventures without art, yes, people occasionally make text adventures around here. If you mean fanventures with low-quality art, that's also a yes, though of course people regularly create fanventures to practice their art (and writing) skills anyway. As long as you keep up with it, and don't let your story stagnate too much, you'll probably be fine either way.

I was formatting Rootborn pages when a question crossed my mind. What are people's preferences in regards to how an adventure works user suggestions into the command prompt? Do you prefer an adventure to use the wording of the suggestion verbatim, or for the author to paraphrase it?
What I mean is if someone where to suggest ">John: Put your hands in the air and shake em lik u just don't care", would you prefer the author to paraphrase that into "John: Dance like an idiot." or just copy paste the suggestion as typed into the heading command line?

If the adventure is a more serious one, then I'd prefer it if commands like those were paraphrased. It detracts from the narrative a bit

I strongly value a sense of immersion when it comes to adventures, so I prefer when authors edit suggestions when necessary; suddenly seeing a command that doesn't fit the tone of narration or previous commands can slightly take away from the experience.
But then again, I feel this mostly applies to more serious adventures where the author is mostly in control. Adventures which take almost every reader command and allow them to shape the story seem to do better when using commands verbatim - with the possible exception of things like spelling or capitalization.

I remember an old adventure I did, I had a villain of the story take over the command centre to be able to change 1 word of any command. was super fun.

Okay, glad I asked because I was talking to a friend of mine about and his position was that revising commands can make it feel like their commands aren't being processed. Definitely something to think about.

somewhat quick question, im planning on "rebooting" my fanventure where some things are altered along w art(since i made it a loooong time ago and there are some things that wouldnt work anymore), but will still continue off of my previous one. would it be better for me to continue to branch off of the same forum or start a new one entirely? same question with the mirror as well.

Hello! I'm on a bit of a personal quest, and was hoping someone here could help. See, just recently I ripped an old picture files folder from my old laptop and transferred them to my new one. This Is one of the many old pictures I re-discovered. This panel was saved off of a fanventure on the old mspafourms. It was primarily about the author (on the right) and his quest to fight Vriska, the Vriska-virus, and the fans that defended her actions In Homestuck. Here we see an army he's gathered from user based submissions. What frustrates me Is that I can't remember what the fanventure was called, and asking around the Homestuck+Hiveswap Discord server didn't yield much better results. It was suggested, however, that I poke around here to rustle some jimmies and see If any of you forum dwellers remember and/or documented any more of the adventure. Like, at least It's name. This thread Is going down memory lane. Join us, won't you? A mirror post will be submitted to the Homestuck reddit. I'll post the link below.

You posted this question in the general MSPA Discussion subforum. We've got a whole subforum about Forum Adventures, so I've moved it over here, plus into the Fan Adventure Discussion thread where someone might know what adventure this is. Also, in the future please edit your post instead of making a double post. Thanks in advance! About the question itself, it does look vaguely familiar to me, I think I've seen that adventure somewhere before but I've got no idea what its name is.

Crap, I recognize the Hussie-esque dude on the right. But I don't remember anything else. Not sure if I've read this but maybe something else by the same author...

What do you guys think of Maral? I plan to continue it unlike my previous adventure and I'm really proud of it. I could use some feedback to make it better, anything you say would really help!

No problem. I'm glad this was moved to the appropriate thread! I have another picture I'm sure I must have saved off of the fanventure, because the character looks like the author Insert above.

Oh, that second picture consists entirely of former MSPA IRC members, though I guess most of them were also frequenters of the Vriska character thread that spawned far more than the eight threads it deserved. Still couldn't tell you what it's from though.
