Looking down it, you're presented only with pitch blackness.
You're just out of reach.
Maybe if your arms were LANKIER and longer, you'd be able to get the banana.
You roll up the rug.
In doing so, you reveal another little alcove, this time in the ground.
There's some goodies inside by the looks of it. |

A KAZOO, a PLASTIC CUBE, and FOUR CORN KERNELS.
You're actually able to lift Wesley up higher.
He retrieves the banana.
The floor panel is steel, also bolted down, though the bolts look more loose than on the grate. Part of the panel is slid into a slot in the ground.
Your knife technically does fit into the door slot...
But, it's obviously not what's meant to be slid into it, as it does nothing. |

You have the new matchbox and screwdriver, as well as your candy-cane shank and your dagger as your weapon.
Wesley is also carrying the corn kernels, kazoo, and banana.
 You unscrew the bolts in the grate using your screwdriver.
You open the matchbox.
It has about five matches in it. |

It does echo somewhat, though you don't really know how to measure depth from it, unfortunately. It might just be from the narrow space in the hole.
Farewell for now, clown painting #1.
Wesley looks down into the hole.
He says it's pretty far, but he can see the clown portrait.
Falling down from here would result in broken legs.
Or maybe spine, if you land on your back.
Either way, not very safe.
