This discussion really belongs in the dedicated Hiveswap thread, but the short answer is there's been some major delays (much of which they're being quiet about due to a non-disclosure agreement with The Odd Gentlemen, and possibly other reasons), but yes, it's still being made. It will be released episodically, and I don't recall if anything's been said about when the first episode will be released.

As long as the topic is 'live'...
A couple days ago I reread the initial campaign for the Homestuck Adventure Game. It's kind of funny to go back and see just how shaky and undefined that original message really was. Andrew said upfront that he hadn't even finalized any ideas for the story or gameplay. Even for him, the very concept barely existed at all, but that was still enough to get fans to contribute around 2 million in support of his creative ventures. Sadly, I used to interpret that as a gesture of trust and genuine support, rather than finite youthful excitement which would turn into bitter impatience and entitlement.
I got off point though. That original speech also claimed that the plan was to end Homestuck in 2013, which is far funnier. Technically, though, since Hiveswap was supposed to come out in 2014, then by that sheer slanted perspective, the game has a strong chance of being precisely on time by coming out the year after Homestuck's ending. Or at the least, only as delayed as Homestuck itself had become. And if you count only the release of the first episode, rather than the release schedule of all episodes.
While it hasn't been pleasant to wait through in person, a two year delay isn't really the worst thing ever in light of just how much has gone wrong behind the scenes. Either way, I'm fairly confident the chagrin across the fanbase will die down once the game actually releases. Unless they're truly legendary in length, pauses like this won't leave a large impression once the waiting is over. I'm also still fairly confident that once the first episode is out, the remaining others will follow in a much more reasonable schedule. I'd be fine with one every 6 months or so. Though I suspect they would actually release somewhat faster than that, and maybe that'd be stretching the releases out a bit long just to prolong the experience.

Oh hey! You're right! I already got my copy and started playing. I was doing so well. Eventually, I got a game over though. I lost the game. AND SO DID YOU.

tfw people are linking to stupid rick rolls when an actual hiveswap update is here and hasn't been brought up yet. it's nice that we have a solid release date now, i just hope they actually stick to it.

Harrumph. to stay on-topic, do you think we actually will get another trailer or not? I can't decide. On the one hand, if there's ANYTHING we hear, I'm pretty sure it would be a trailer of some kind, followed by a release date. On the other hand, the other possibility I can't help thinking is that the first Episode will be dropped on us unannounced, with the announcement coming some hours afterward. I don't know why I think that. Maybe I'm a hopeful romantic that way. Random thought: I wonder if Jude is going to play a big role in this game beyond the beginning, before you're transported to Alternia. I don't see a whole lot of room for him in the game, and it seems reasonable he'd be the Xefros to Dammek in Hauntswitch, but it seems weird he'd get kind of a lot of attention in promotional material. I mean, unless they want to focus on that early chapter, as a sort of bait-and-switch, except everyone knows the switch is coming. If that makes any sense.

I think a new trailer is probably likely EVENTUALLY, once there's enough actual gameplay in the new 2D style to show something substantial (and hopefully in conjunction with a release date). At this point I don't really expect them to put out anything until they really feel ready. Their earlier release philosophy involved frequent releases of gameplay videos and trailers and concept art, but since the changes since then have likely resulted a lot of that early material being scrapped, I suspect that the relative silence now is probably partly due to them learning from it and not wanting to jump the gun too much before they're good and ready. Yes, it's been a while, but I'm personally content to wait until they have something worthwhile to show. Y'all. This is bordering on spam. C'mon. What else do you expect there's nothing else to talk about what with this infodrought and all. Speculation, ideas, discussion of what we DO know? I mostly just expect actual on-topic Hiveswap/Hauntswitch discussion, not multiple people trolling with fake links intended to get people's hopes up and then let them down (despite saying they were never gonna let them down). It's not a big deal and I wouldn't have even said anything if only one person had done it, but since it started turning into a trend, it was just a gentle nudge to get back on topic. Since the games themselves will have multiple episodes, I could see the first hour or so of gameplay being comprised of Joey being in Hauntswitch and Dammek being in Alternia to help "set the scene" a bit and familiarize you with the characters, mechanics, and humor of the world before all the crazy alien shit starts happening. Now that I think about it though, it could also be kind of cool if they eventually gained a limited ability to talk to each other across universes, with Jude offering helpful hints to Joey or Xefros to Dammek, or with Joey and Dammek actually being able to meet.

Now that I think about it though, it could also be kind of cool if they eventually gained a limited ability to talk to each other across universes, with Jude offering helpful hints to Joey or Xefros to Dammek, or with Joey and Dammek actually being able to meet. For some reason, a while back I thought this was part of what his lone gunbirds would facilitate, possibly being able to fly back and forth through the portal to deliver messages and things to Joey. Or maybe radio waves transmit across universes? Neither of those sound very probable though. Which is a shame, cuz I liked his character. I guess that gives me something to look forward to come time Hauntswitch comes out. (By the way, it's kind of cool we have a semi-official name for the second game now.) I suspect that stuff about the semi-young guardians will similarly not come up in this came, assuming the majority of it takes place on Alternia. In fact, that stuff about the monsters, the mysterious hooded figures, is probably all teaser bait that will actually drive the plot of the next game. Which, for some reason, makes me really frigging excited. There's something almost bone-rattlingly cool about a lone troll having adventures, solving mysteries, and hopefully kicking ass on Earth. Though that's not to say the intrigue Hiveswap has to offer doesn't speak for itself. I wonder how long the release will be between Hiveswap's last episode and Hauntswitch's first. Ideally, the period between each episode of the first game will be enough for What Pumpkin to judge the success of the game and whether they can press on with the second, and since presumably a good deal of work has been put into how that will work out already, it may not take too much work aside from the production of new assets and puzzle design to get that underway. But really, if what I've said holds true, they may be inclined to develop Hauntswitch no matter what, rather than leave all those threads hanging. Unless Hiveswap is a total dismal failure, and the company risks bankrupting if they don't jump ship. That's a pretty unlikely scenario though, and what I'll be happy not to dwell on again.

To be honest, there is no reason to make a trailer. Trailers don't increase sales, they just show how crappy your game is. Only the product matters to the consumers. The backers don't really need a trailer either. Any effort spent making a trailer is wasted. They could be working on the current game, or even the next game. Unlike TOG there is nobody holding What Pumpkin accountable for a trailer. Not when they are already behind on the game!
It makes little sense to make a trailer after release too.

That sounds like nonsense. Trailers are advertising. They inform people your product exists, and assuming it's well made, will people interested enough to buy it, or atleast look into it. And even trailers with low production values can easily get more people interested than repulsed.

I've done the research, mainly to figure out why trailers are so uncommon. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QM6LoaqEnYMost of what Extra Credit goes over seems vapid and unusable to me. But sometimes they get information from real experience, and insider knowledge.
