I'm becoming more and more numb to this the more time passes. Do you think I can create another thread here about the translation? I don't even know if I'm ready to start it over or at all.

There should be no problem with starting a thread for that.

Jokes aside. I may be a bit late to the discussion, but I doubt that they will come back. I had a discussion with a buddy of mine about this and from what we talked about, It seems a bit grim. I'd go into detail about it, but most of it may be understood by some as an attack on the team themselves. As a summary, I'll just say that the way they did things was a bit weird without a better way to describe it.

Negativity? You're the ones talking about a big scheme to hijack the Homestuck fandom, envisioning merely the Forum Adventure media as a tool to this end, all of this in the faint hope maybe, if you're very very successful, What Pumpkin will A, notice you, B, finally bring the forums back. Would you shoot a full indie Alien movie entirely out of spite that the Alien franchise has become a mess *, in the hope for Hollywood to "notice" your work and start doing a good Alien sequel? That's about how both ridiculous and dishonest this project sounds. To list the problems: - Irrealistic expectations for both popularity and the reaction of What Pumpkin to said popularity - Impure intentions (as the Buddhists say) in the creation of a work of art - Illusions that popularity can be a calculated result instead of sheer luck - Rancorous underthoughts * Simple example, your mileage may vary. Jacques is not talking about failure, defeatism is not the conversation that is happening here. Of course you have to cling to your goals and to set yourself the highest goals possible in the end if you want to get anything done. The problem is the idea. You can be as brave and determined as you want, a Charles Manson X Your Mom Stuckdventure, for example, will never be a good approach. I suppose you're right. I did say that the chances of WP caring are minimal, though. They probably won't see it as a threat, more of a dumb joke or something like that. You're gonna have to take some dangerous and rather difficult methods if you want to threaten a company, even a fledging one. And even then, threatening WP to bring the forums back is honestly not one of the better choices. Unfortunately, the choices I do consider good are impossible since we don't have contact with anyone from WP who isn't uncooperative. We could show them what's at risk with the forums down, since companies will care if they're losing the ability to make money. Unfortunately, since they have been quiet for so long, it's unlikely that anything will get their attention. Simply put, threatening a company you want something from is not likely to get you what you want. Even if it did catch their attention, something made to not only foster, but showcase the company's shortcomings, will prolly not result in a positive response. A more likely, but equally foolish plan might be to set up an IndieGoGo or Patreon to amass funds to pay WP to take action or donate to them with a message about how it was amassed to get the forums back. But even then, they seem swamped with work that doesn't involve PR or managing an community hub, so them getting to it is p unexpected.

Maybe we should do something in memory of the forum. A sort of funeral for the old forums that also offers a means of making a clean break from the past?

Are we going to keep the Omegaupdate forums if the MSPA forums come back?

We could show them what's at risk with the forums down, since companies will care if they're losing the ability to make money. Unfortunately, since they have been quiet for so long, it's unlikely that anything will get their attention. Earlier in the thread, people already talked about boycott, and this would actually be a good idea. BOYCOTT DOES WORK, very efficiently. The world we live in is vastly shaped by past boycotts: for example, apartheid ended in South Africa thanks to boycott. Please take note, I do not in any way compare the current situation to an apartheid, it's just a forum! The example is here to show how much boycott does work in our world, in opposition to the stereotype of its uselessness. The idea that "it doesn't work" is just another lie from a capitalistic culture which wants us to forget how powerful we are. Aim for the wallet and suddenly the authority will care. But it would have to be organized. By May, we could announce the future boycott on various social networks, like " From June 1st, stop ordering What Pumpkin products to save the history of Homestuck, of the Homestuck fandom and a gigantic masses of fanworks and original creations". We contact some various artists and huge figures in the fandoms to talk about it, too. Then June 1st, we start the boycott and see if it has any kind of effect. It could be that the forum cannot be salvaged. It could be that they didn't care enough to restore it. Either way, they will care.

Are we going to keep the Omegaupdate forums if the MSPA forums come back? Here's what Blap has to say: This is not in any way an official replacement for the original forums nor do I have any more info about the return of the mspaforums than you do. This forum isn't meant to be permanent either. It will only be used as long as the mspaforums continue to be down, and after that I will lock this place up and we can all happily move back over to the mspaforums and resume our normal business.

It's a pity that the MSPA Forums has gone down. There was SO much history to it, and all the effort to the forum adventures are lost, such as Fortuna and Lucidstuck, if the data cannot be recovered. That being said, I realized that I have the first half of the art meme saved on my computer: imgur.com/DR5w8mLI didn't think to download the second half, mostly because I gave up making an art meme for Pokepalypse but I didn't know how to delete the first half. Glad I lacked the knowledge. If anyone has the second half, that would be absolutely fantastic.

For some odd reason, Google didn't cache the first page of the art meme thread, but it did cache page 2? So while I was unable to find the original, I was able to use existing contributions to "restore" the second half. It's a bit rough near the bottoms of the drawing areas, but hopefully it's good enough. i.imgur.com/6tFW1yP.pngSpeaking of which, I think it might be fun to try it at some point. Should there perhaps be a new thread made for it?

Yeah, I was about to ask about that (along with the advertising thread), but I didn't know if it was a good idea to post in the forum questions subforum.
EDIT: Oh my gosh, the entire thing has been saved!

It might be worth looking to see which ones are on the mirror site.

Lucidstuck also has a mirror. But on this topic, I remember Fortuna's mirror not updating as frequently as the forum thread. So this gives me a bad feeling a lot of the recent pages may have been lost. At least until they're mirrored or reposted here, assuming the author keeps backups.

I'd felt the death of the HS fandom in the forums for a while, ever since fans on social media took hold of the comic the forums just couldn't hold people like it could when most everything in the fandom was centered around it. That's really why I get so pissed off whenever I remember that the forums are down and may never come back. There's SO MUCH history there that could have been saved, important cultural shifts that affected the comic itself that you can find well documented within those pages, and all of it gone.
That's not even mentioning all the hard work that went into the forum comics, even if it's been years since I've read one. The thought of all that time and energy just lost to the ether because WP didn't care enough about their presence to even just find volunteers for its forums pisses me off.

Surprised nobody mentioned this yet, but not only does this affect us, the forum-users, but this also affects the wiki, which redirected a lot of the old history from MSPAforums. It's truly a stupid decision that it got to be this way with no way of making sure it didn't die. I remember there being a lot of talk about advertising on MSPAforums, and how some of the staff asked what we thought about putting ads on the forums. I think it just ran out of hosting money, and nobody gave a shit to fund a community website that was slowly dying. Thats my opinion though. It could be many other ideas (i.e. the idea that the staff lost the higher-ups and had nothing to do, although they coulda told us!)
Best thing to do for now is to set up camp here, and keep trying to find other staff to pester until we get at least SOMETHING being said. Goddamn this is a tragedy that could've been avoided.
(also hi, it's Driad.)

I'm SUPER in to keeping backups and have 3 whole backups of Fortuna because I'm always worried about losing it. I think the only thing that's lost to time is the X-Mas Fools section which was just for gags so nothing was really lost. I do need to update the FA site version with the latest pages though which I currently have!

Hexane also has a mirror, in guys you guys want to know. It was pretty rad. And here's the link to it. Hexane was perhaps one of my favorite fanventures out there; it's what inspired me to start Synodic Reboot, actually. It's a shame how things got towards the end, though (the cancellation).
