I hope maybe hussie talks more about it in the newsposts.
I feel like he did a lot more pausing to catch up on homestuck than merited such a short ending.
Also WTF is that white spirograph? Isn't that what was underneath the frog platform?

For now, I'm still disappointed, but Homestuck is far from my only fandom and if this is the ending that we get, then it's what we get.
I mean, I think it was totally inadequate, but at least I can kind of see what it was getting at. Stories with ambiguous endings have been done and have been done well, I just think it's totally inappropriate for Homestuck to end that way.
But I have better things to do than to feel betrayed by a work of fiction. I'm just going to have to move on to other stories.

Isn't that what was underneath the frog platform? I believe it's meant to be a symbol of creation. It appears throughout Homestuck. My long-term avatar is based on it. I've always seen it as a Lotus.

So, this ending really reminds me a lot of the ending of Mother 3, where you have this huge cataclysm of events that go down after you pull the final needle, but then the end is left ambiguous. Did everyone survive? Did the world get destroyed? Was it saved? They never give you a straight answer. And I think this ending is a lot like that. On one hand, that black hole was OBLITERATING Paradox Space along with all of the ghosts within it, but on the other, Can Town got built and all of our heroes got to live a new peaceful life again in paradise, but Caliborn was getting his immortality while the Ultimate Juju was used. There was this sense of everything coming together, yet nothing coming together at all.
And I think that was the point. At the end of the day, we can't say for sure what the future holds, that idea of vanquishing evil, that good triumph over evil, or vice versa, it's a lot more gray than that.

Given how much Homestuck was inspired by Earthbound/Mother, I don't think this is entirely a coincidence.

]I would guess that Caliborn smashed his clock because that would mean that if he died, he could not be judged heroic or just, making him immortal, and then at the end he became LE? I believe he also absorbed the Clockwork Magyyks from the clock as well.

Love the music breathtaking animation, very flashy and amazing hmmmmmm It's definitely true, the animation was really visually astounding, and the music was fantastic as well. But... I feel like that's really the only good thing about it

Hussie said he's never played Mother 3, so the similar ending probably is a coincidence.

I find it odd that if the focus was only going to be on the SBURB/creation aspect of things we didn't even really get to see what "becoming gods of the new universe" actually means. The kids were just kind of...living together on earth. Unless all that refers to god tiering, but that was never how I understood it before.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the animation on its own (gunna watch it again now because wow is it well animated and done, I much prefer it to Collide), and if we had more content to explain other things, like more Caliborn masterpieces or something, it would maybe have the impact it deserves without changing the animation at all. It's just a little too ambiguous an ending with out some other fleshing out. I saw someone say that an Epilogue may be separate to Act 7, though I think that may be wishful thinking.
Problem Sleuth feels the more complete package now. But I can never begrudge a fully realised Can Town.

Unless this really is a psycheout and there's some kind of epilogue coming, I genuinely don't think I can recommend Homestuck to people anymore.

I was telling my cousin to read it earlier, he said he might depending on my reaction of the ending lmao. I hyped this up for so long, and now I'm embarrassed.

I was expecting the lack of dialogue and hussie's art to mean a long prologue a'la the end of problem sleuth. now I have no idea why he outsourced the end of his own comic out entirely....

I couldn't sleep so I went to look at the update earlier than planned.
That animation was so good. It must have taken ages to do that!! But I'm not sure about most of what happened, like if they really did get into the new universe and if it was different or not. Like, I remember someone saying that the stuff that happened in the Masterpiece actually happened in the timeline where John took the ring which meant Aranea never came to the session. Hopefully someone will answer this after some time.

Wait - So who sendificated the Genesis Frog to young Jade's house? There is literally no explanation anywhere, did it just appear from PLOT MAGIC? I feel like that's a pretty significant point to leave out...

Well I've been forcing my friend to read Homestuck but now I'm thinking I should just tell her not to. I don't know, it's still an amazing story overall, but a story this ridiculously long just cannot have an ending this bad. Nobody wants to follow so many main plot threads for months if they will never actually be resolved.

I think Altiope destroying the Green Sun took away LE's immortality--indicated by his eyes rolling over to 8-balls. The black hole left after the Green Sun's collapse is the pocket they have to sink LE into. I think it's meant to be implied that this is what happens. Maybe Caliborn's masterpiece happens directly after Collide, and the meet up on the victory platform is after? Wait no--Dirk definitely got revived on the victory platform. Hmmmm.

The more it's all sinking in, I'm realizing this update has left me feeling even emptier than I initially thought it did. The more I think about everything in this story, leading up to this. Five and a half years I've been following Homestuck, and this...honestly, it's making me really fucking sad. I thought if the final update was gonna make me want to cry, it would be for the complete opposite reason. I really can't begin to express the depths of my disappointment right now. I'm...I'm a fucking mess right now
