I think the idea of your first run through being indicative of who you are is pretty telling. Like, one of the LEt's Players that I watch played Undertale out of high demand but didn't really enjoy himself because he felt forced to do a Pacifist run despite the fact that eh wanted to play it like a traditional RPG and not wanting to be nice. In some ways, Undertale is a commentary on the violence of video games in general. Like, I think we can all agree that just because we defeat enemies in most games, doesn't make us killers in real life, but Undertale presents that desire as the ultimate evil, that even in a fictional world, the desire to kill for the sake of power and vidication is just as descrutive as in reality, and that while we might never actually do something like that, we all have that ability to.

I abjectly refused to kill anyone after I started playing and for whatever reason couldn't seem to select anything but [FIGHT]. So I kept letting it miss. So I wondered if I simply was reading the menu wrong and hit Z and killed it and immediately felt incredibly guilty. I died to Asgore about 9 times because I was convinced there MUST be a way to avoid having to [FIGHT]. Fortunately, since the dummy doesn't give you any EXP, it doesn't break the pacifist requirements.

Yeah. I mean, I'm not trying to imply that people who play a Genocide/No Marcy run are evil. I think it's just suppose to make us question that destructive instinct.

So my brother started playing the game, and he's even worse at bullet hell than I am.

I've been doing a run with my mom where I do all of the actual combat and I have her tell me what to do with each enemy, even though I practically know this game like the back of my hand at this point. I have her voice the obviously feminine people (so mostly just a couple of characters), and I do all the male characters and Undyne, since I headcanon her voice as pretty gruff.
We've just gotten to the part where we meet Alphys and Mettaton for the first time, and before going through Hotland we're gonna take a quick detour to go meet Undyne at her house.
Also Wes you did eventually figure out that you're supposed to scroll through the menu options with the arrow keys right?

Aw man, a mom that is willing to play co-op/actually play video games sounds great. My mom is only good at candy crush, and my dad is only good at ONE specific level in Star Wars Rouge Squadron III :/

Don't get me wrong, I practically had to cash in all my child points to get her to do the initial session, but after going through the Ruins she liked it well enough that we've kept going at least 2-3 times a month.

This is the only thing I live for now. In all seriousness tho, Undertale is one of my favourite games of all time. Is it weird that I ship Flowey and the tsundere cactus? This video is still wild af

To be fair from what I remember Markiplier ran into the same issue with his run during the first episode. He managed to get past the first frog just fine but for some reason he couldn't not fight the dummy, which didn't help the whole "everyone rallying on him to do a pacifist run of the game" because at the time a lot of people didn't know if that would affect the pacifist run one way or another.

Weird, I haven't any issues. Does playing on a mac make any difference? So my brother's apparently doing a neutral run. He killed a few enemies as the beginning, but seems to now be going mostly pacifist. I've been giving him next to no spoilers, so this should be interesting.

I didn´t go into Undertale totally blind. I watched Mark play through the Ruins, and my friend showed me the Neutral final boss fight and True Pacifist final boss fight. Otherwise, I tried to keep myself spoiler-free of the Neutral/Pacifist routes, though I completely spoiled myself on Genocide as I don plan to do so anyways.
I don´t want to get so bored of the game that I go Genocide though, so I plan to get the Undertale HATE corrupter to corrupt the game and see what wacky results I get.

Yeah, that's pretty much my biggest regret with my playthroughs, that I spoiled myself so much.
As for Mad Dummy, all you can really do is outlast him.

I died to Mad Dummy sooooo many times on my first game. It was so frustrating. You just have to get good at avoiding everything that gets thrown at you, because it is one of those fights where you have to survive until a certain point.

I looked over the games guide and found the character page. I'm sure it's good for a laugh. [

Indeed. Once you get over the initial shock of encountering Omega Flowey (despite the spoilers I still wasn't completely prepared), he turned out to be quite an awesome boss, actually. In fact, "Finale" is one of my favorite Undertale tracks, and seeing YTPMVs of "Your Best Nightmare" is rather fun.

I wish I could've gone in blind, but at the time I had no way to play it. :/ It wasn't until several weeks after I watched a Let's Play of it that I was able to get the game.

Eh, I'm not as convinced on the need to not have spoilers. I went into the game having most things spoiled and I think I had more fun knowing in advance the shtick of the game. There were still plenty of things that weren't spoiled for me; particularly the amalgamation part which I thought was done fantastically. The dog amalgamation? Jesus, that was well done.

Spoilers aren't that bad honestly. Most of the time I don't tend to get surprised by things (and I'm not counting jumpscares. They'll get the best out of anyone. It's so cheap)
