Do you like Homestuck? Pokemon? Want to see the glorious sight of what happens when you mash those two together? Then you’re at the right place. Sburbmon is a romhack of Pokemon FireRed, made to look, sound and feel as much like Homestuck as a Pokemon game can. Starting out in Maple Valley, you play as one of two Andrew Hussies, tasked with catching wild Sburbmon and using them to fight your rival Ryan North as well as the many Sburbmon Gyms scattered around the Dreambubbles.
Currently the game is incomplete, but we are working hard to bring the finalized game to you! All Homestuck characters will eventually be able to be caught within the game though, so if you happen to have a particular love for Liv Tyler the bunny, then fear not, she’s in the game too. To download the current beta, check out the Download link below, and if you have any questions, please check the FAQ. If you can’t find an answer there, just ask us! We’ll be happy to answer. Current Patch: 0.6.0.0
================ -- Download -- Optional: Epilogue Gender PatchesPatch Notes
================ 0.6.0.0:
New Things:- Prospit has been opened up! Explore the city, defeat the White Queen's Lair, and more. - New Sburbmon: Added Kurloz line to Route 13 and a secret unlockable mon at the top of Skaianet HQ. Evolution Stone Update:- You can finally obtain every kind of Evolution Stone! - Scratch and Kernel Stones have been added to the Derse Black Market, and more elusive stones like the Sucker and Kernel2 Stones are located in Prospit. Early Game Cleanup:- Adjusted the map edits to Route 1/2/3 and LOWAS - Route Theme 1 has been added - Run has been enabled from game start. As such, there's a new present waiting for you upon defeating Typheus. - Catching tutorial has been made optional - Cleaned up some NPC text that was still too close to default Sylladex Changes:- National Dex is no longer required to be stealth-given. It doesn't break old save files that have it, but things look nicer if you don't. - Unobtainable mons have been placed outside of the main dex, so the empty entries for the Dino Trio (and more?) won't taunt you - Habitats have been changed into Categories and properly set up - Size comparison has been replaced with something more useful: It now displays the base stats for the Sburbmon as well as their abilities. Bugfix Things:- Fixed GT Vriska switching abilities on evolution - Fixed Ryan's incorrect palette in the naming screen - Fixed Sollux's gender marker not displaying Misc Things:- Ectoslime's ability is now Liquid Ooze, because Gooey was causing problems - Removed Spikes from the game because I didn't actually fix it - Horsaponi has been removed from the wild (you can still trade an NPC for it) - The bell noise when you ride your Pony has been replaced with a more appropriate horse noise - The Pokedollar symbol has been replaced with the Boondollar symbol - Polished up the Trainer Battle theme - Various mon movesets have been adjusted - Various mon base stats have been adjusted - Various items names and icons have been updated - Various mon sprites have been cleaned or updated ================ Known Bugs:- Sburbmon with the ability Download do not appear to be affected by trainer-used status moves.
- Clicking Save in the menu and then cancelling glitches the menu text. Purely visual, disappears when you close the menu.
- The trade screen has some glitchy visuals going on
- Sburbmon with the ability Solid Rock (H. Boxcars) do not appear to have any weaknesses. This glitch is visual only; super effective damage is indeed applied.
- If GrubTerezi paralyzes you during the very first battle, the icon will not appear
FAQ
================ Q. How do I run this thing? A. (Gif tutorial, if you prefer) 1. Download the following: - The latest patch - Visual Boy Advance 1.8.0 beta 3 - A clean, 1.0 rom of Pokemon Fire Red. Due to legal reasons, we cannot directly link one. Google is your friend. There’s a bad rom floating around that isn’t compatible with the game, so as a hint, the correct one includes the human word for ‘nut creature’. 2. Unzip VBA and the rom. 3. Place the rom and the patch in the same folder, and rename them both to Sburbmon. 4. Open up VBA, and ensure your save settings look like this and that ‘Automatic IPS Patching’ is marked. 5. Hit File > Open, then select the rom. The title screen should very clearly say Sburbmon, and you’re good to go. Anytime you need to update to a new patch, just download it and replace the old patch (make sure you rename the new one). If automatic patching isn’t working, or you want to run the game on alternate devices eg. Android, make a backup of the ROM and patch it using Lunar IPS. Do note that you will have to delete the patched ROM and patch a fresh one each time there is a patch update. Q. I can’t save? / 1M circuit board is not installed? A. Ensure you have your save settings set like this. Note that you will have to make a new save file in order for the changes to take effect. Q. The game just shows a white screen when I run the rom. A. Looks like you’ve downloaded a version 1.1 rom; ensure that you download a version 1.0 and it should run correctly. (Hint: May involve the human word for ‘nut creature’.) Q. My Trainer ID is 00000! / My wild-caught Sburbmon don’t obey me! / Everything looks glitchy! A. There seems to be an incompatible Fire Red rom out there that causes all these weird issues. Try downloading one from a different source. (Hint: May involve the human word for ‘nut creature’.) Q. I have a suggestion... A. This project has been running for a fair amount of time, so there's a possibility that something you want to suggest has already been discussed or decided on. Currently, you can defeat 3 gyms. I don't really know what that would constitute %-wise, other than probably less than 50%.

Hey hey hey. Kinda mad honestly that my masterlist got lost. Unfortunately I did not save it anywhere that I can find. I believe that, and perhaps the dex entries, are the only things we really lost? Which is definitely good news. Hopefully not much else was lost, because that would be sad. What I DO still have, is records of the contents of almost every single page on the first two threads! Be warned that a lot of this is kinda fluff. There's like, notes of when certain people joined the thread, a LOT of me being annoyed at either myself or others. The first of these two links was a long long time ago, finishing around page 83 of thread 2, when I first posted the masterlist. The second was obviously much later, when I posted the second version. These also both kinda have a lot of MY opinions on decisions ringing through them, and I missed a lot of stuff I didn't consider important, but that you guys might. pastebin.com/FFaNuyJXpastebin.com/PRB75QRUAnyway hello I am here again. Might even work on some movesets soon, after all they're not finished yet. Next four weeks or so are gonna be stupid busy though so idk.

Missingno isn't in Firered, and this is a Firered hack. It only exists bc it's a glitch in the horrible glitch ridden mess that is Pokémon Red and Blue (it still shocks me that those games made it to store shelves considering how unprofessionally made they were for their time). So that's probably why you haven't seen a Missingno sprite edit in any Fangame - it doesn't exist in those games to start with.

Ah, I see, there is however a ? sprite for a entity that isn't registered in some games, which is why I asked.

Hmm, I'm going to say that those bugs are most certainly being caused by patching over an old version. I can't replicate those results at all. Depending on how old of a version you upgraded from, there may have been a ton of changes that just don't jive with the older patches. Alright, as for agenda, I found a post saved in my notes that I can't remember whether I even posted it before, but either way it's getting posted.
In addition to the B2 Corner things being added, I've decided that this is going to be a bit of a cleanup patch as well, where we iron out some of the wobbly things and make everything look a bit more polished. As such, here are a few things I have planned: - First of all, I'm going to retool Maple Valley into something that isn't just Pallet Town renamed. This will be an opportunity to fix a couple weird things, such as the Daisy issue. For now I'm planning on moving her into her own house, and Ryan will thusly have his own house. If we think of something better for her that can be fixed, but for now just separating her from Ryan seems like a good bandaid.
I do think having Toby in the basement or something would be funny, but I don't think he quite fits the role that Mom plays, aka healing you. So for that I think we'll stick with Ms Paint? Perhaps there could be a nonfunctional staircase in Hussie's house that references his existence when you attempt to go down. - Next, as we all seem to agree, The Felt grunts will be replaced with actual Felt members. As such, that means that in the places they're currently occupying, there will need to be some rewriting. The current text lines for the grunts probably don't fit very well. Also, they're evidently all going to need trainer sprites.
If there's anything else you think looks a little shoddy and could use some cleanup, feel free to say so. Anyway, here's the mostly-final route list. May need tweaking still. Small survey: The levels are probably starting to raise here, so should we make the grubs/babies cheaty (lv 17-18)? Or should we move into mid stages? As for the skeleconsorts, they can be a thing, but will have to occupy 4 slots. I can't really find how to implement multiple forms under one dex entry. At least, not in a way that isn't super buggy. LOCAHSkeletal Imp Skeletal Consort (Salamander) Grub Gamzee Dad (rare) I liked the suggestion of a rare Dad encounter. It fills in the gap where there would be a Jane, to go along with the others. LOPANSkeletal Imp Skeletal Consort (Turtle) [suggest something] Baby Roxy Roxy (rare) Are there any other cats or some new encounters we could put here? I'd like to expand the roster a bit here and in LOTAK/LOMAX. LOTAK TowerSkeletal Imp Skeletal Consort (Crocodile) [suggest something] Baby Dirk Dirk (rare) I saw the suggestion about Squarewave/Sawtooth, but wasn't there plans to have them be prizes from the dojo? It's been a while since that was last brought up, so let me know what you guys think. LOMAXSkeletal Imp Skeletal Consort (Iguana) Baby Jake Crabdad Goatdad Jake (rare) Should we go with Crabdad/Goatdad or the Gruberidan/Grubsollux that was suggested? I'm not sure what would fit better. Assets needed list: - Trainer sprites for each of the Felt
- Generic overworld for the Felt
- Skeletal Imp frontsprite/backsprite/moveset
- Skeletal consort frontsprite/backsprite for each type, singular moveset/stats/ability
- Assets for other wild encounters, TBA

Fake stairs in hussie's house for toby sound good. We could also even just put in a wall sign that says "Toby's Room - Knock twice to come downstairs" or something like that if putting in fake stairs would be a pain.
I think cheating with the levels and keeping grub forms for now is fine, lord know the real games do that plenty.
For the encounters, i have stuff written up for a vodka mutini we could put in LOPAN if we wanted. I think LOMAX should have eridan and sollux grubs rather than the lussi. As for LOTAK im not really sure what else fits. Crows maybe? I also am updating the Big Mon Checklist with stats for the fw most recent mons we added.

Suggestions: Spades Slick as a Middle Evolution between Jack Noir and Robo Jack, perhaps through a friendship check? Dark/Fire
Ability: Sturdy
HP/Att/Def/Sp.A/Sp.D/Spe 70/95/80/75/75/76 Jack Noir
70/105/100/75/80/76 Spades Slick
70/125/110/75/85/76 Before 75/125/110/75/85/80 RoboJack Robot body would have more, and Rocket ass would improve speed.
Perhaps 75 HP for Bec Noir as well?

One of the things we unfortunately lost was a list of everything that had already been established on that project. I called it the masterlist, and boyyyy do I want it now. But hey, I'll answer the past couple of questions/comments.
Jack Noir has three different versions; Bec Noir, RoboJack (aka Spades Slick) and Jack English (The One with LE's eyes whose Head exploded). How we are currently doing these evolutions is like this: Jack Noir -Level 33-> Jackspers (Noirlecrow) -Level 55-> Bec Noir Jack Noir -Use the Robostone-> RoboJack Jack Noir -Use the Horrorstone-> Jack English
It seems like you were already aware of these, but I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I personally think that this works better than having separate lines, otherwise we just end up with too many versions of "Jack Noir", who is functionally the exact same character. As for having Spades Slick in, I honestly don't really see the point? He does have his differences, sure, but the only visual different really is his hat, and all other differences are kinda allowed for in RoboSlick. And as for stat buffs, please oh god no. Bec Noir is already better than a Psuedo Legendary normally is levels of powerful, we don't need to buff him. RoboSlick maybe? Again, don't see why it's needed, but it's worth considering.
As for legendaries, we currently only have the legendary bird replacements planned. These are the SBAHJ trio. They clearly stick out in the areas where they're found and are sorta meant to be glitchy and like, "not meant to exist" (within the game's narrative, clearly we mean for them to be there. They are Normal/Fire (Sweet Bro), Normal/Ice (Hella Jeff) and Normal/Electric (Geromy). Their sprites even have the shitty JPEG artifacts on them, so that's cool.
As for Mewtwo (the only other legend in FRLG), we're currently undecided. Lord English is the Champion of this game, and uses himself in battle, so that might be in interesting thing to have in Cerulean Cave, but considering how stupid powerful he is as a Sburbmon, it's not seeming likely. The Jailbreak Prisoner, the Bard Quest bard and MSPA Reader are current other suggestions, but nothing's been decided.
For reference, Becquerel is in the game, he's just a Psuedo Legendary line instead. You catch him as Baby Bec, and then his final evolution is Becsprite. And as for Doc Scratch, he's the professor Oak of this game! He's also a bad guy though, and ends up as one of the Elite Four. As such, he isn't catchable ingame.

Rad. I wouldn't have thought that the SBaHJ trio would be legendaries. What about a Problem Sleuth character for Mewtwo? I mean, there's already BQ and Jailbreak as suggestions.
(I assume Aradia would evolve to Aradiabot with the robostone?)

The Problem Sleuth characters are going to be regular Sburbmon at some point in the game. We haven't got round to deciding where to put them yet, but they're there. Not as legendaries though. Bard Quest/Jailbreak were suggested I think mostly bc there's not a huge deal of things you can use from them as Sburbmon, so having their one big main character as a legendary would be nice.
And yup! Robostone evolves into RoboSlick, Aradiabot, RoboRufioh, Jade's Dreambot, Brobot, and I believe Lil' Seb.

Jesus, Liv Tyler is strong (as she should be). Will the bunnies be another evolution string like the Jack Noirs?
MewTwo could Professor Mayonaka? although considering he's already a professor he might work well as a Sburbmon professor from another region?

Aradia regularly evolves into GT Aradia at 35. A little different than it goes in canon, but we wanted to avoid 4-stage evolution lines. There was talk of it being a happiness evo at one point, I can't remember why it was vetoed though.

There's an evolution chart on the Big 'Mon Checklist, it's worth checking out. Aradia's line has been debated to death but it basically works like this: GrubAradia -Level 18-> Aradia -Level 35-> GT Aradia GrubAradia -Level 18-> Aradia -Use Horrorstone-> DeadAradia GrubAradia -Level 18-> Aradia -Use Robostone-> RoboAradia The bunnies have a split evo, yeah. Con Air Bunny -> Knitted Bunny -> Liv Tyler Con Air Bunny -> Knitted Bunny -> Lil' Seb iirc Liv was a level up and Lil'Seb was the Robostone? that only is oddly enough not on the BMC, so thats just my shoddy memory trying to remember it.
